Here is an article talking about the contracts being drawn up in Iraq and who will be producing oil. Several Asian countries including China plan on working in Iraq to draw oil.

It's obvious that oil is important to the U.S. I think everyone will agree with that, but so far we have not stolen any oil or not allowed Iraq to work with whatever countries they choose to in processing oil.

When China begins exploration and production of Iraqi oil, they will be doing it under the jurisdiction of a government that supports and protects American Interests. That is the Objective of the war in Iraq, The installation of a democratically elected government that supports US Interests.
And that is the OFFICIAL statement of the objective as provided by the United States Department of State. GWB CEO.
China has been in the process of exploring for oil in Iran since mid November 2004. The agreement was completed in the days after the 2004 election. China is in the process of widening the Panama Canal to permit passage of supertankers loaded with Mexican and Venezuelan Oil. China has made an agreement for purchase and development of Oil Fields in Vietnam. China is the major player in the Oil fields of Sudan. China is NOT MAKING WAR TO INSTALL GOVERNMENTS THAT SUPPORT THEIR NATIONAL INTERESTS.

Good points Ed. There was a reporter from Africa who was interviewed on the Pacifica Radio Program Democracy Now (www.democracynow.org) a week ago who said that wherever China is involved they bring aid and development but the US goes in with the military and war.

The headline is misleading. The article points out that China and these countries will only be producing tens of thousands of barrels, 70,000 and 90,000, when Iraq's capability is in the millions, 2, 3, and up to 5 or 6 million, and not to count out big oil yet. I understand big oil is already negotiating much larger contracts but are holding off from any big investments because of the poor security and unstable government.

Though Bush claimed the reason for the invasion was Saddam's WMD the first thing Paul Bremer did was have a new constitution drafted that privatized all of Iraq's resources and opened up it's laws to allow investments from foreign countries to monopolizes it's industries.

They also refused to hold elections until Ayatollah Sistani led huge demonstrations that demanded elections and threatened more violence. Bush then gave in and claimed the reason for the invasion was to bring democracy, which he had been denying. The mainstream media went along. They are now "floating" the idea of replacing Maliki with a military government to clamp down to create stability for business and investment.

During the 1990's the Project for a New American Century, as well as Cheney, wrote and spoke about the need for the US to increase it's access to oil to feed it's economies. (and their pockets and bank accounts) In Cheney's Energy Task force that met in secret the documents that were ordered by the court to be released had maps of the Iraqi Oil fields. This was before even 9/11.

Oil makes the world go round and who controls the oil controls the world. The US has no intention of leaving Iraq and is building permanent military bases in which to maintain control of Iraq and the region.

It's all about oil and has always been all about oil. Bush is also now creating an African Command Center in which to control the oil supplies from Africa. And though we are losing our grip on Latin America the Bush team had Chavez and the region in it's sites for a while. We shall see what happens.
