Nice jab in the ribs there, DA.

You just reinforced my premise, if you don't agree with the atheists, you are unreasonable and ignore evidence.

b50m, we could go in this circle again if you want, but honestly if you are a person that must have logic and evidence to believe something, then you can't really be a Christian. Even the Christians here will tell you it is all about faith and feelings. No evidence or logic required. That is enough for them and I really don't care what they believe. Truly. It was not meant as a jab it was just me giving you my opinion on why most people become atheist. Dang girl I even agreed with you and said you were right! I guess I didn't say it in the right way again, huh?

What Bill says doesn’t influence me or matter to me personally. What does matter to me is the people that may be reading his crap that could be influenced by it. If there is one person that could be going thru a trying time or searching for something, Bill’s words, which is condemning & without any kindness/love/compassion, could easily hurt someone deeply & make them distrust any Christian or non-Christian. Bill could cause that person to run as far in the other direction as possible.

Honestly, I think that anybody who would be deeply hurt by anything BeeG has to say prolly needs to grow a thicker skin.  But that's just my opinion.

BeeG comes across to most as a fraud. We know it, He knows it.....I think he's just betting his god has a short memory.

Life's too short to be "plain."

Glad I could make ya smile.

Crusty: I don't lump all of the south into this lil' corner. I've been other places nearby and seen the difference. (All the cool, huge crosses sticking out of the mountainside in Virginia were pretty cool....I wonder how much THEY cost to build?)

I used to live in Florence a couple decades ago..I remember the "Fort God" mentality. The church fashion parades, the gossip, and the holy wars from when I was a kid.  West Virginians aren't much different, either-Just harder to understand when they get mad at each other.

I just remember where it's coming from.

O No!:  I don't lump all christians together as crazies.  One of my old childhood buddies from Florence recently stopped by my place for a visit. He's a Presbyterian minister and it doesn't seem to bother him one bit that I'm a heathen.  He looks at it the same way folks up north do-live and let live.

My take on religion and politics being more important in the South (but not all, as Crusty pointed out) is the ethnic makeup. We're mainly Western European, while many in the north are Eastern European and used to tighter reins on both church and government. In other words, we want our say, and by cracky we'll have it!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Huh...I'm not sure how ya figured that..

I'm almost Canadian by birthplace and my ancestors hail from England, Wales and Upper Hesse in central Germany. No Slavs, No Russians, No Bulgarians, Hungarians or any of those other "arians."  Ya don't get much more Western European than that.

Religion isn't hereditary.  None of us are born religious. We have to be taught that.

Unless yer fairly new to this country, I grew up under the exact same government that you did right here in the good ol' U. S. of A.

(Side note.....I HATE when I type the word "same" and I look and see that I have actually typed "smae" and have to go back and fix it...  *stupid lysdexia....*)

Whatever.

Wonderful way to put it.  We aren't born religious.  We are taught whatever the ones around us in authority teach us.  It is up to us as we grow to figure out what we believe and what makes sense to us. If we just take others' word for what is right, wrong, and what kind of person we want to be and don't think for ourselves we aren't complete and might not become who we are able to be in my opinion.  That goes for politics, too.  You start out what is around and you slowly grow, try on different ideas, and hopefully you come out at some point with an idea of who YOU are and who you want to be.  It can take a lifetime, but it is worth the journey.

Side note...I hate that too.  I type teh allll the time and all kinds of other words, too.  It is truly annoying, and if you chatted with me you would need a translator..lol.

Bill give me specifically the verses you associate to each of your so called Christian Test.

1. The Deity of Jesus Christ-- God incarnate -- fully a man; yet, fully God.

        Yes I totally agree.
2. The Trinity -- God eternally existing; manifested (revealed) in three persons: Father, Son, Holy Spirit.

You are speaking of the power of the Priesthood, something you don’t and refuse to

         understand.
3. The Bible -- Is the inspired Written Word of God and is the sole authority for Christian faith, salvation, and our Christian life.

Yes inspired and written by the power of God, but compiled by man who decided        what to     put in and throw out. There are other scriptures left out of the Bible that are the    word of God. They also God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ, would not leave half the World out. So we have the Book of Mormon which is also the Word of God. And like The Bible an account of the people of the area it was given to.
4. Salvation by Grace -- By the grace of God you are saved, through faith in Jesus Christ -- plus nothing else.

No, totally disagree. No way we have a free ride into total salvation. There are going to be people that live their life and not have the opportunity to learn of Christ. Or Do not want to learn of Christ because of Mean, Bitter people preaching false doctrine at them.
6. The Gospel -- The birth, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ according to Scripture.

        Yes and More.
7. Heaven and Hell -- Both are real places and are the only two eternal destinations available to all mankind.

Heaven yes but only a place some call Hell for worst of the worst.

Skippy

Hi Skippy,

Happy to oblige you!   What are those Essential Christian Beliefs and which Scripture passages or verses support these teachings?

1. The Deity of Jesus Christ:  Preexisting deity, God incarnate -- fully man; yet, fully God.  (John 1:1, 1:14, 8:58, 4:26)

2. The Trinity:  God eternally existing; one God manifested (revealed) in three persons: Father, Son, Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1, 1:26, John 1:1, Luke 3:21-22)

3.  The Bible:  Is the inspired Written Word of God and is the sole authority for Christian faith, salvation, and our Christian life. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21)

4. Salvation by Grace:  By grace you are saved, through faith in Jesus Christ -- plus nothing else. (Ephesians 2:8-9, Isaiah 51:6, Galatians 2:16, John 3:16, 6:47, 10:27-28, Romans 6:23, 10:9, 10:13, Hebrews 9:15)

5. The Resurrection of Christ:  He rose from the dead, that we may also be resurrected into eternal life.  (1 Peter 1:3, John 11:25-26, Acts 10:39-43)

6. The Gospel:  The birth, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ according to Scripture.  (Luke 1:26-38, Matthew 1:20-25, Acts 2:24, 2:32, Romans 8:33-34, 1 Timothy 2:5, 1 Peter 2:24, 1 Corinthians 15:1-8)

7.  Heaven and Hell:  Both are real places and are the only two eternal destinations available to all mankind. (Acts 1:9-11, Hebrews 9:24, Psalm 139:7-8, Matthew 10:28, Mark 9:47, Luke 16:19-31)

So, Skippy, my Friend -- where does the Mormon church stand on these Essential Christian Beliefs?  If you can show us that the  Mormon church believes and teaches these beliefs -- I will believe that your Mormon church is a Christian church.

If you cannot show, or will not even attempt to show -- that your Mormon church believes and teaches these Essential Christian   Beliefs -- that failure to respond is affirming that the Mormon church is, indeed, A CULT CHURCH.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Yes, the Bible was compiled by man who decided what to put in & what to throw out. We don't know what's correct or what's not.

I'm not sure that another book was given to Joseph Smith. If there was another, why was it not added at the same time as the Bible?

I do know there's a scripture in Revelation 22:18, that says " For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book".

Exactly!!

"Do not want to learn of Christ because of Mean, Bitter people preaching false doctrine at them".

Hi Chick,

Then, what will make YOU want to learn about Jesus Christ?  What can make YOU want to believe and follow Jesus Christ?  What will it take for YOU to believe Him?

Forget Bill Gray -- and all other Christians you do not like.  Let's talk only about Chick.  Assuming you had NEVER met Bill Gray on the Religion Forum; assuming that Bill Gray had never come on the Religion Forum -- what would it take for Chick to become a Christian believer?

That is a question you need to answer for yourself, not for me, not for anyone else on the Religion Forum or in any church -- only for yourself, in your quiet place -- what will it take for Chick to become a Christian believer?

And, Jennifer, please (just once) allow Chick to answer for herself.  We can talk about you and Jesus Christ later.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Good grief, Bill! Asking the same question more than once really wasn't necessary. I can answer your question quite easily so please pay attention. It's not any of your business & I certainly don't have to answer to you.

As for your rude remark to Jenn, you don't dictate to her what she can or can't answer.

And, Jennifer, please (just once) allow Chick to answer for herself.

Bill

Bill, I don't "speak" for semi. She is capable of doing that for herself. Would you like to show me the post you're "talking about"? And bill, you might bully the women in your house and order them around, but don't try it with me.

=================================================================

Bill keeps asking the same question over and over. Isn't that harassment?

We all can read or we wouldn't be reading posts.  We can all visit our local churches, read books, read on the internet, talk to friends, etc., so if any one of us or anyone who happens along here wanted to learn more about Christianity or anything else we can ask someone or read it.  If someone is searching s/he is perfectly capable of asking for information.  If semi or anyone else is searching for a belief system she is perfectly capable of finding one on her own privately without explaining anything to anyone or needing anyone to come tell her what to believe.  I am not speaking for her or anyone, but just saying that this type of search is intensely private and when one is bullied into it then it isn't that person't true path, but instead someone being led by the nose.

That is where zealots of any religion (or those insisting no one should believe in any religion) make a big mistake in my opinion.  When the nuns and priests told me as a child that they were the ones who "knew" what the right way to worship was it set off alarm bells for me, and anyone who says that now still does.  When anyone tries to tell me his or her way is the only way and that I must believe or else it is a signal to me that this person isn't coming from a place of inner peace with his/her beliefs, but is coming from a place of force and bullying.  If that is what a person's system of beliefs teaches I want no part of it.  I take responsibility for my own actions, and I would think I was being arrogant to decide that I knew what the best path was for anyone else.

Any religion or other group who tells me I am not supposed to think for myself and reason out what makes sense to me is a cult and the person isn't representing something healing and peaceful in my personal opinion, and therefore I am not interested.  So when a person tries to push me into his/her beliefs it turns me totally off.  I can read and think for myself, and I respect everyone else's right to do that as well.  If I say I am happy with the path I am on that means I am not interested in being converted to another one, so beating me over the head with something isn't going to make me run toward it.

So really why does it matter it would take for a person to become Christian?  You assume she and all others here really want to be Christian but for some reason just haven't gotten there yet, but  (can't speak for semi, but in general) people are actually able to choose for themselves and might not want to be one.  There really are many people who lead happy, healthy, balanced lives and do good deeds without belonging to one particular religion or any religion at all, whether any particular person believes that or not.  Some have already searched and found a path that is right where they want to be and have no interest in being Christian, and that is a legitimate and personal choice.  It doesn't mean they just haven't gotten to Christianity yet, but that they are wherever they need to be that might not be where someone else feels they should be, and when someone says that it means" I am not interested in being bullied about my choices and it isn't up for negotiation, so let's move on".  Really.

Perhaps the real question is, "What would it take for you to stop pushing people into believing exactly as you do?" to anyone who has the urge to do that.
