Are we becoming a nation that classifies people by their religious beliefs?  It appears that way to me as I follow the controversy over prayer before football games in Lauderdale County.

There has apparently been a call by some Christians to search out and identify atheists within the community so that a boycott can be raised against any business that is owned by or employs nonbelievers.  Is this what we are coming to?  Are we so filled with hate against our fellow man just because he doesn't believe the same way we do?

If so, this is dangerous path down which we travel.  History is filled with the dangers of such endeavors.  Muslim countries whose law is based on sharia may tolerate other religions "of the book," those being Judaism and Christianity, but people of those other religions are not allowed to participate in the government or freely worship or proselytize.  There is religious toleration, but not religious freedom.  In **** Germany, people were classified by their religion.  Jews were required, at first, to wear yellow Stars of David to identify themselves as Jews.  This was followed by boycotts of businesses owned by Jews and Jews were not permitted to work for businesses owned by Christians.  The people of **** Germany were Christians: Catholics and Protestants.  They thought they were doing the right thing.  They might have been led to this action by an evil man, but the people bought into his politics and it led to the holocaust.  The evils of the Spanish Inquisition of the 15th century were real.  People of differing faiths were forced to accept the Christian church and its religion as the one true religion.  Those that did not comply immediately were tortured into submission or if they still did not comply, killed.

It does not appear we are there yet.  But what will we do next?  Will we paint a black A on a storefront owned by an atheist?  Will someone that attends the Church of Latter Day Saints get a blue M?  Will Catholics get a silver P?  Is this what we want in the United States of America?

Old Salt, the Founders had it right.  Leave religious opinion to the individual, and keep the state out of it.  Why can't the Brooks people see this?
At the risk of answering my own question, they've been misled by people who tell them that this is a Christian country, in the fashion of certain European states which assume that every citizen adheres to an official state religion.

We do (#/*#)<!  not.  Nor will we.  Nor will we sit idly by while others  insinuate a de facto official religion.

Rock on, sir.

Key words there are "some Christians" and thank you for that.  I believe we've established that the loudest nut isn't a Christian, just insinuates he is for fun.  So how about a little honesty in this situation?  The vast majority of Christians on that facebook page did not behave like this poser, did they?  Yes or no?

If I understand correctly, the originator of this facebook page had the decency to remove the posts by this poser as well.  True?  If so, I'm sure you all took the time to thank them.

Joy,

I do believe the vast majority of Christians on that Facebook page did not and will not behave like that 'poser'.  And I do thank the the originator of the page for removing the inciting posts too.  But it may be that damage has already been done.  A seed may have been planted.  There may be some less disciplined Christians who think what was proposed is a good idea.  Now it is our duty to be alert for any rumor or talk of carrying out such actions.  If such talk does arise we must open a dialog and convince all that this is not the right path.

Salty as an observer of this cloak&can caper I don’t think even the employ of joy can absolve this great sin by one Jeremy Green. He has smote the rock when God commanded him to speak and his promise-land of no prayer at school was only glimpsed for a fleeting moment. “He has awakened the sleeping giant”

No, the majority did not but a lot of people did. Before the owner removed those post, it was scary what some of those Christians were saying. (I use the word Christian lightly & because they were referring to themselves as such)

I didn't thank anyone simply because I am not nor would I want to be part of it, even if I were a Christian. I hope the originator deleted those post because it was the right thing to do & not because she could have been banned from Facebook for allowing it.

Thanks, OldSalt, for your honesty and that is very true.  It's always a good idea to keep an eye on those that would break the law, regardless of who they claim to represent.

I didn't join the facebook page.  Actually, I didn't even know about the facebook page until it came up here.  I guess the Christians on my friends' list were thankfully not involved in anything in direct opposition of Christ's teachings.  I think(?) if they joined, "liked" or commented there that it would show up on my wall, but facebook keeps changing things so often, who knows?

Hi Joy,

What Facebook page is everyone talking about?  No one has posted a link so that we can find it.   Please post a URL link so that we all can join the discussion.

Thank you and God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill
