Hi to all my Forum Friends,

Below are two posts I just added to Facebook.   Praise God for so many good Southern Christians who will take a stand against all the atheist and secularist organizations who are fighting to keep God and Prayer out of our schools and out of all public life.  I am proud of my home town folks!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

HOME TOWN PROUD!  Killen, Alabama, is one of my home town communities.  Atheists have come against prayer at their football games and the people are fighting back.  Brooks High School is in Killen, a Lauderdale County town of about 1,100 residents.  The  issue has galvanized not just Killen residents, but people who live in communities of other Lauderdale County schools.  It has received national media attention and has resulted in a Facebook page titled “The Brooks Lions Will Pray” that was created last  week, and as of Saturday night, already had more than 3,400 friends.

Yes, this has made me proud to be an Alabamian -- and even more proud to be an Alabama Christian.  I am reminded of an old hymn which would fit this situation perfectly:

STAND UP, STAND UP FOR JESUS
Lyrics: George Duffield, Jr.
Music: George James Webb

Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
Ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner,
It must not suffer loss:
From vict'ry unto vict'ry
His army shall He lead,
Till ev'ry foe is vanquished,
And Christ is Lord indeed.

And, for all you Christians reading the TimesDaily Religion Forum -- I urge you to visit THE BROOKS LIONS WILL PRAY! Facebook page by following the URL shown above.  Let's all Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Thank you, Bill the anarchist. Everybody know that Jesus was a radical who just loved lawbreakers. "The bedrock of America"? Well, you got two out of three.

Bill, you and other shallow, clueless theocrats can rant and rave all you want about this kind of issue. The fact remains, however, that we live in the most free and generous society in the world in regard to religious freedom.  A very major reason for that is that in this nation, the Constitution  prohibits such entanglements of government and religion as you and your unfortunate ilk would like to see.  There will ever be among us such  simplistic, emotion-driven persons such as you who fail to understand and who refuse to accept the wisdom of the Constitution in prohibiting government from exercising control over religious practices--including the kind of government control inherent in sponsoring, directing, or controlling public prayer at government-sponsored events such as public school athletic contests.

The Facebook whining by others similarly confused and deluded as yourself will accomplish nothing other than to make the participants feel like they have accomplished something, when in fact all they are doing is proclaiming to the world their incapability to understand the genius of the framers of the Constitution in preventing government from meddling in religion.  None of the irrelevant anecdotal information dredged up by David Barton or other pipsqueak Christian nationalists will change any of this.  The Constitution has legitimately prevailed and the Lauderdale County public school system has done the wise and proper thing.  Now the know-nothing crackpots can move on to their next project--to unjustly vilify Superintendent Valentine and Mr. Irby, the school system's attorney, for the decision that they were obligated under law to make.

To eliminate any speculation about where I am coming from:   Readers of this post, please understand that I am no atheist. I am a Christian and a conservative one at that, and that is entirely consistent with my position in this matter and entirely consistent with scripture (See Romans 13: 1-7).

The Facebook whining by others similarly confused and deluded as yourself will accomplish nothing other than to make the participants feel like they have accomplished something, when in fact all they are doing is proclaiming to the world their incapability to understand the genius of the framers of the Constitution in preventing government from meddling in religion.

And for all their "huffing and puffing", the story going nationwide (and apparently embarassing some christians), it is already "over" in the minds of most and will only be kept alive by the most rabid.

When you speak of religion in school, you are speaking of Baptist, Holy roller religion.  I for one, don't like to hear "praise the lord" after every sentence. It also offends me in school to have people squabbeling  over what church they go to. Get a life. This life is too short, besides what are you going to do after you die and find out there is no heaven? Will you give back collections?

Hi all,

NOW THAT I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION -- you may wonder why I called this meeting.  Maybe we can clear up a few misunderstandings -- such as the fact that the Supreme Court, i.e., the Judiciary Branch, has no power to make laws, only to rule on the applicability of them to the Constitution.  ONLY Congress can make laws in the United States.

U.S. CONSTITUTION (1787)

Section. 8. - Powers of Congress

The Congress shall have power . . . To make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into  execution the foregoing powers, and all other powers vested by this Constitution in the government of the United  States, or in any department or officer thereof.

AND,

Amendment 1 - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. (Ratified 12/15/1791)

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or  abridging the freedom of speech, . . .

Clearly this First Amendment tells us that Congress cannot pass any law which would establish a national religion or church such as the Church of England, when King Henry VIII wanted to divorce his wife, Catherine of Aragon -- and the Pope denied his right to divorce.  So, old Henry evicted the Pope and established his own church.  Sort of like the atheists and secularists are trying to evict God from America today.  But, our founding fathers assured that no one, not Obama, nor the Congress, nor the atheists and secularists, could establish a ruling church in America.

Our founding fathers wanted to assure that every American could worship where and when he/she wanted -- or not to worship if they chose.  However, the founding fathers were also wise enough to recognize that one day atheists and secularist would slither into America wanting to declare their religion of Atheism, or as I prefer to call it, the Religion of Nothing, as the ruling religion of America.   Thus, the First Amendment prohibits even the Church of Nothing from being the national religion or church of America.  Praise God  for the wisdom He gave to these brave men who were our founding fathers.

And, that, my Friends, is the way it was -- and the way it is today -- in spite of Far Left Liberal Leaning Justices, Judges, and current Executive administration.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Bill it's apparent you don't read history. Otherwise you would know that several of our founding fathers were deists, not Christians.

John Adams himself signed the Treaty of Tripoli in 1797. In case you have never read it, this line here is the kicker "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion,"

So there you have it. A founding father himself clears up that argument for us Bill. You don't have to agree, you don't have to interpret it. It's right there in plain 18th Century English.

Hi Loki,

Here is a wee bit of a American history.   Of course, unlike your quote (which I do not doubt) I do show sources and references so that you may validate the suggested information for yourself:

JOHN ADAMS
http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/John_Adams

"Our Constitution is designed only for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate for any other." -- John Adams.   Letter to the Officers of the First Brigade of the Third Division of the Militia of Massachusetts, 11 October 1798, in  Revolutionary Services and Civil Life of General William Hull (New York, 1848), pp 265-6.

THE FOUNDING FATHERS ON JESUS, CHRISTIANITY AND THE BIBLE
WallBuilders Web Site:  http://www.wallbuilders.com/LI...Articles.asp?id=8755

JOHN ADAMS:  Signer of the Declaration of Independence; judge; diplomat; one of two signers of the Bill of Rights; second President of the United States.

"The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity. I will avow that I then  believed, and now believe, that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes  of God."   In a letter from John Adams to Thomas Jefferson on June 28, 1813.

"The Holy Ghost carries on the whole Christian system in this earth.  Not a baptism, not a marriage, not a sacrament can be  administered but by the Holy Ghost. . . . There is no authority, civil or religious – there can be no legitimate government but what is  administered by this Holy Ghost.  There can be no salvation without it.  All without it is rebellion and perdition, or in more orthodox  words ****ation."   Letter from John Adams to Benjamin Rush, from Quincy, Massachusetts, dated December 21, 1809, from the  original in our possession.

"Without religion, this world would be something not fit to be mentioned in polite company: I mean hell."  The Works of John  Adams, Second President of the United States, Charles Francis Adams, editor (Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1856), Vol. X,  p. 254.

"The Christian religion is, above all the religions that ever prevailed or existed in ancient or modern times, the religion of wisdom, virtue, equity and humanity."   John Adams, Works, Vol. III, p. 421, diary entry for July 26, 1796.

"Suppose a nation in some distant region should take the Bible for their only law book and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited. . . . What a Eutopia – what a Paradise would this region be!"   John Adams, Works, Vol. II,  pp. 6-7, diary entry for February 22, 1756.

"I have examined all religions, and the result is that the Bible is the best book in the world."  John Adams, Works, Vol. X, p. 85, to  Thomas Jefferson on December 25, 1813.

JOHN QUINCY ADAMS:  Son of John Adams, sixth President of the United States; diplomat; Secretary of State; U. S. Senator; U. S. Representative

"My hopes of a future life are all founded upon the Gospel of Christ and I cannot cavil or quibble away [evade or object to]. . . . the  whole tenor of His conduct by which He sometimes positively asserted and at others countenances [permits] His disciples in asserting that He was God."    The Selected Writings of John and John Quincy Adams, Adrienne Koch and William Peden, editors (New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1946), p. 292, John Quincy Adams to John Adams, January 3, 1817.

"The hope of a Christian is inseparable from his faith. Whoever believes in the Divine inspiration of the Holy Scriptures must hope  that the religion of Jesus shall prevail throughout the earth. Never since the foundation of the world have the prospects of mankind  been more encouraging to that hope than they appear to be at the present time. And may the associated distribution of the Bible  proceed and prosper till the Lord shall have made “bare His holy arm in the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall  see the salvation of our God” [Isaiah 52:10]."   Life of John Quincy Adams, W. H. Seward, editor (Auburn, NY: Derby, Miller &  Company, 1849), p. 248.

"In the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior.  The Declaration of Independence laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity."   John Quincy Adams, An Oration Delivered Before the Inhabitants of the Town of Newburyport at Their Request on the Sixty-First Anniversary of the Declaration of  Independence, July 4, 1837 (Newburyport: Charles Whipple, 1837), pp. 5-6.

+++++++++++++++++++++

There is no doubt that our founding fathers intended America to be a Christian nation where all people would have the freedom to worship God where and when they wanted -- and where those who do not want to worship may so choose.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Bill, you even asking for a source proves you know nothing at all about history. That is like asking for a link to the declaration of independence.

Hi Jennifer,

My Friend, you are really bottom feeding if that is the only thing you can find to complain about.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not a complaint at all bill, a statement of your ignorance of history. I don't need a link to the declaration of independence bill, but apparently you do. You seem to be more addled lately, things not going well for you??

Is this what they call "tit for tat" or have you officially made this a "spitting contest"?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you're losing all of a sudden it's a "spitting contest". Seems like you're the only one spittin' and sputtern'.  So bill, care to tell us how it's a spitting contest because I am responding to your posts and proving you wrong?

Jennifer,

Making a face at someone and sticking out your tongue -- is not making a point in a discussion.   Telling me, "Yah, yah, you are wrong!" -- is not making a point.  That may suit your style on a school yard -- but, Jennifer, we are big people now -- supposedly having big people discussions.

My Friend, if you have a valid point to make -- let's discuss it.  But, please, I tire easily of your "spitting contests."  Call it running away if that makes you feel better.  Not a problem.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Uh bill, it's you posting the pouting face like a three year old, not me. You are wrong, I told you that, now how do you figure it's sticking out my tongue at you? Once more bill, it's you posting the silly faces and cartoons. You just can't stand to be called on your misinformation. You want to dish it out and then what bill? You just want all of us to agree with you even though you are dead wrong? Not doing that is somehow getting into a "spitting contest"? How old are you anyway?

Buffalo, coming from you that means absolutely nothing. Bill never "got" anyone with his silly posts full of misinformation, and seeing as how misinformation AND insanity is all you post too I'm not surprised you'd agree with bill.

The following quotations were popularized by David Barton of WallBuilders, a fundamentalist Christian-action group in the general camp of Christian Reconstructionism, a movement founded by R.J. Rushdoonie to return the United States to its supposed Christian roots. As reported in the July / August 1996 issue of "Church & State" magazine, Barton has since admitted that the quotations are spurious.

Save this list. If you encounter these quotations in use, challenge them.

What a great list, A list to live by, these men knew what they were talking

about and they got it right.

****************************************

NOT a "great list," but a discredited list of quotes pandered around by the despicable Christian Nationalist and lying weasel, David Barton, whose organization (Wallbuilders) has now been forced by the truth of the matter to acknowledge that Barton has circulated spurious or, at best, dubious quotes.

If you had read the link provided in DarkAngel's post, you would not have so rhapsodically   praised these discredited quotes.

Lest  you try to shrug this off or otherwise dissemble in some frantic scramble to rescue yourself from the embarrassment you deserve, I am providing a quote from the link you apparently ignored, so that you, Barmy Bill,  and others can have the truth in this matter instead of relying on Barton and his bogus quotes to sustain your own theocratic fantasies.  Here is the quote, for your much-needed correction and continued education:

<<<<<<"We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future of all of our political institutions upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God."

So said James Madison, architect of the Constitution, defender of religious freedom and fourth president of theUnited States, according to the Religious Right.

But to church-state separationists and historians of the post-colonial period, something about this Madison quote has never felt quite right. It seemed unlikely that the same Madison who advocated "total separation of the church from the state" and battled to disestablish the Anglican Church in Virginia would say it. The sentiment appeared to clash with his well-known advocacy of a healthy distance between religion and government.

A few years ago, with the quote popping up increasingly in the mass media (including Rush Limbaugh's daily radio show), Robert S. Alley, professor emeritus at the Universityof Richmond and author of James Madison on Religious Liberty, undertook a dogged effort to track it down. Enlisting the help of the editors of The Papers of James Madison at theUniversity ofVirginia, Alley scoured reams of documents, books and writings. After coming up empty-handed, the Madison scholar concluded that the quote was probably fictional.

Now the major purveyor of the quote, Texas-based Religious Right propagandist David Barton, has admitted it's bogus. Last year Barton's group, WallBuilders' issued a one-page document titled "Questionable Quotes," a list of 12 statements allegedly uttered by Founding Fathers and other prominent historical figures, that are now considered to be suspect or outright false. Madison's alleged comment about the Ten Commandments is number four on the list and is flatly declared by Barton to be "false." (See [below] for a full list of the bogus quotes.)

Advocates of separation of church and state were left breathless over Barton's audacity. For nearly 10 years, theTexas propagandist has traveled the country, putting on programs about America's alleged "Christian heritage" at fundamentalist churches and other venues. During these events, Barton argued that the separation of church and state is a myth foisted on the country by the Supreme Court 50 years ago. The United States, he insisted, was founded by Christians and was intended to be a fundamentalist-style "Christian nation."

What was Barton's proof for these claims? Many of the quotations he now admits are groundless! At least nine of the 12 were included in Barton's 1989 book, The Myth of Separation, and appeared in the video version, "America's Godly Heritage." Barton was so enamored of one quote supposedly uttered by Benjamin Franklin ("Whosoever shall introduce into the public affairs the principles of primitive Christianity will change the face of the world.") that it was included on a biographical sketch WallBuilders distributes about Barton, saying it "fully sums up what David believes and teachers." Barton now admits the quote is "questionable" and recommends people don't use it.>>>>>

In Barton's later revision of his book, he has omitted the bogus quotes in The Myth of Separation.
