Safety Geno Smith was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with driving under the influence. Defensive tackle Jonathan Taylor was arrested Saturday night on domestic violence charges.

Alabama reacted swiftly following Taylor's arrest, announcing Sunday that it has dismissed the defensive tackle, who has a history of domestic violence issues.

Some current and former Tide players posted their thoughts on the arrests on Twitter.

It is Smith’s second DUI arrest since he has been at Alabama, the first coming in August 2013.

Not slammin' Bama.  Lord knows we AU fans have had our share of disappointments.

Okay.  I'm confused.  In a clip of a newsconference with Coach Saban on Ch. 48 tonight, he spoke of Taylor's dismissal but I may have missed his comment on Smith.  Smith hasn't been convicted so the coach may be keeping that option open just in case he isn't.

But what confused me was he said Bama had a zero tolerance towards this/these offenses.

Somebody explain to me if there is a "zero" tolerance, how can there be repeat offenders?

JT, I'm not certain which player you're referring to when you say Hope he's got judgement enough to go to a small college, play one season, and try to get on a NFL roster but on the outside chance it might be Taylor, this POS hits women.  If he has a career in the NFL it should be as a tackle dummy ...  sans helmet & pads.

Good one.

10 pm sports updates,  Saben has declared he will retain Smith after his does what ever he has to do get off the hook for his zero tolerance  second offense DUI.  No harm, no foul.  Just keep on keeping on till you do'

One zero tolerance becomes two and soon we'll be measuring these zero tolerances like we measure buckshot ... single 0ught tolerance, double-00ught tolerance, triple000ught ...

Saben doesn't recruit.  He reloads.  Shuck 'em to the curb and take the ^^^^star waiting to play..

Until a carload of Bama players break into a house and commit an armed invasion, or goes on a shooting spree at a apartment complex, I would refrain from commenting on the Bama team.  And until the boy is convicted in court and sentenced, he is still considered not guilty until proven otherwise, except in the Barner court of opinion. Most football players who are good are aggressive individuals, and most are not saints. I agree wholeheartedly about facing one's consequences, because that is the only way they will learn. You don't know the whole circumstances in these cases, and supposedly Saban does.  I will refer to his knowledge and actions, rather than those of the arm chair coaching staff.

Just wondering-can employers fire people who get DUIs or beat their wives? How about being charged with other offenses? We never see, So and So Company has employee arrested second time for driving under the influence. Such and Such Company has employee arrested for domestic violence. This and That Corp fires employee after their second drug arrest.

Coach Saben is not going to wait until things get worse.  I say good for him.  By comparing what happened at AU, are you suggesting what happened at AU were committed by repeat offenders?  Or just to make you feel better?.

Yes, he did say 'zero' tolerance.  Today's paper quotes him as saying he has always given players charged with alcohol/drug offenses second chances.  If being arrested twice within 2 years for DUI is a red flag of addiction and the Coach can help him, I say go for it before it does get worse.

My point was Bama, having recruited gosh knows how many 4 & 5 stars athletes over the past, what 6-7 years, why keep the bad apples when you have depth.  Coach Saben doesn't have to recruit,  He reloads.

Far as what I know, I only know what Coach Saben tells us.  I don't presume to know anything else and nor should you.

wow. on your moral high horse AND still managed to find a way to jab "the barners." roll irony roll

Bwahahahaaa.....me on a "moral high horse?"

I did not start this drivel about arrests of Alabama players.

Listening to a bunch of Barners lecture about morals would be akin to listening to O.J Simpson give a lecture on Domestic Violence. People living in glass house should not be throwing stones.  Pure and simple.
