First of all I hope Derek Henry wins the Heisman and I believe he deserves it. He's certainly put himself in the same category and sentence as other Heisman winners such as Hershel Walker and Bo Jackson and considering what he did in High School he's proven that he's something special. There are some sports commentators and other Heisman voters who have alluded to the fact that with Alabama's line that any mediocre running back could have accumulated a lot of yardage.
The reason I believe Henry isn't going to win the Heisman is partially the hatred (all be it hatred might be a little strong) many sportscasters and others have toward anything Alabama, they are going to vote for anyone but an Alabama player. Second and more important in the discussion I believe that Christian McCaffery also has had an exceptional year and also justly deserves it due to being an exceptional player. It's too bad that only one will get it because arguments could be made for all three candidates but by and large, my own opinion, Henry deserves the nod because Derek Henry has done nothing but be consistent. He set Florida High School football records that will most likely stand for many years and he's done what he did at Alabama because he's the talent that he is and I hope he gets it and I feel he should. That said though I fully believe that there is enough Alabama bias and feelings that all purpose yardage should over shadow Henry's accomplishments.
I hope I have to eat crow and end up proven wrong but I'm afraid that Derek Henry, after such a huge unprecedented year, will end up 2nd in the Heisman voting.
