I, to, saw the dumpster and the white covered trailer out by the end of the building at Ryans as well as power on and some activity inside.  I couldn't tell who was actually doing what though although I did speculate that it might be Golden Corral's contractor getting ready to do something.

Either way I'm glad something is finally being done.  I just hope that they address the horrible state of the rest rooms and the condition of the old Ryan's building before trying to go in and occupy something that needs a lot of attention.

At least with the old Guthrie's building where Dairy queen is taking over you can certainly tell that they have gutted the building completely and are pretty much just using the shell of the building to put an entirely new constructed restaurant in there.  Golden Corral should consider doing something similar to the old Ryan's building from what I've been told about the existing building but then I could be wrong about it's condition and maybe it doesn't need as much help as I've been led to believe it does.

Golden Corral is a privately held company, so information isn't that easy to get. They got their start as a food distribution company similar to Sysco, but quickly evaluated the situation and cut out the middle man by starting the Golden Corral franchise.  All stores are privately owned. And the food is the best you can get for the money. The waitresses deserve tips as they not only bring you drink refills and coffee, but also man the serving line, the cash registers, and handle all cleanup. I've known two Golden Corral owners personally and can vouch for their locations in central Florida! When the local franchise opens, I'l be one of their best customers!

I know Golden Corral is  highly improved and better than Ryans but I still hate that restaurants, like this, have gone to Buffet only as I actually used to love the ability to order a specific steak, such as the GC Marinated Sirloin or a Ribeye or Prime Rib and the Bar/Buffet was secondary or in addition to the entrée.

I have a very sensitive stomach and due to Crohn's disease I have to be careful around most Buffets but of  all of them I prefer Golden Corral and have eaten at the McDonough, Georgia location many times while living down there.  The best example I can give of comparing Golden Corral to their competition, which is greatly diminishing, is like comparing Publix Food Stores to Foodland.  You can tell right away by entering and appearance that one is higher quality, better selection, and overall more customer driven than the other.

I can only hope that Golden Corral takes the time and opportunity to gut and redo much of the Ryan's interior and address many of the complaints that were so common among those who ventured into Ryans.  I'm afraid if they don't make those visible and demonstrable changes that the memory of Ryan's may tarnish Golden Corral's chances to regain the business that Ryan's had in it's hayday.

I am confident that Golden Corral's standards will be met.

I am pretty sure almost any chain business has standards it tries to meet when opening a new location. That said, I would be surprised if the standards were specific enough to address things like Bathrooms. To me, standards for restaurants seem to focus on the outside of the building and the dining room.

I would be surprised if bathrooms were important enough to have to be designed a specific way.
