They've been extremely busy since opening and there always seems to be a line waiting to get in to eat but I'm wondering has anyone that has tried the new Golden Corral willing to comment on their experience?

I did, while shopping at Sam's Club, happen to see one of the managers for Golden Corral running around in the store with a buggy loaded to the top with Sam's Bakery Rolls so I assume that Golden Corral ran out of the ones they produce or something happened to their baking ability for that moment/time.

I'm curious if Golden Corral is using new buffet tables or the same as Ryan's left behind?  I'm also wondering about the rest rooms and if Golden Corral upgraded or modernized them?

Then there is the quality of the food served.  So if anyone has tried it how about sharing your experience.

I saw cars outside last night but I thought they were training employees. Glad to know they have opened.

That does make be wonder about the roll thing. I have heard Ryan's uses some Walmart products so Golden Corral may use some also, but is that good for business?

If that were the case, why go to Golden Corral when you can buy some Sam's Club rolls and bake them at home?

I'm also curious about whether or not they are using tables.  It seems to me that these all-you-can-eat places would be more efficient if they just used a trough.

Or just lined up folks and injected the garbage directly into their veins.

Actually isn't the buffet a play on the old Cafeteria concept except they eliminate a number of workers that worked in the Cafeteria line?  I miss Morrison's cafeteria and I believe that when Piccadilly bought out Morrison's and their recipes they ruined a good thing because Morrison's was far better than Piccadilly.

Today you can still find other Cafeterias in various parts of the country but they are disappearing fast.  S&W used to be very good but are no more.  S&S Cafeterias are still in business but difficult to find and there are none around this area but if you can still find one they are very good.  There are also some others out west such as Luby's and K&W but I'm not as familiar with them.  I do though believe I would like the cafeteria concept over the buffet but then people like the unlimited features of a buffet.  Something about that just sounds unhealthy from the start.  Still though of the Buffets I do prefer Golden Corral and I'm glad they are in town even though I don't usually visit a buffet restaurant.

Now, now!  Some of the Sunday buffets in Atlanta produce excellent food.  Don't brand everyone with the same brush.  That's a leftie thang.

Do any of these elusive buffets exist in the northwest Alabama region?

I dislike universal condemnation when there are remarkable exceptions.

Wife and I ate there Monday night . Same steam/cold table layout, but food was great. Good variety . I ate fish, didn't try the steak since I had steak the night before , but it is as good as any of the GC places I have been to . Fish was fresh and excellent, shrimp was as good as you can find around here  (no comparison to Wolf Bay in Orange Beach tho)
As to the rest rooms,. I just went to wash my hands, and it was clean , didn't linger to do an in depth exam.
They had obviously had a real run on as they were out of most of the best desserts . I ask our waitress and she said they had been so busy over the labor day that they were out of ice cream. chocolate pie, and the fudge fountain was out but they were hand dipping strawberries from what was left .
I had no complaints , very happy it was there. They have an "Early Bird Special" for us old folks that ends at 4pm every week day for seniors , and we were late, so we had to pay full price , but it was well worth it.
I hope soon to go on the week end when they have the rib eye and some special salmon and huge shrimp . I have had that in other places, and looking forward to having it again here.
Like I said , we got there kinda late, 6:3- or so , and there was no line but the place was full . Had to wait a few minutes as their computer had bit the dust and had to be re-booted for us to pay , but no real wait.
I'm glad to have that as a viable ooption for eating out  in the area. Wish I didn't have to go all the way across that Tennessee Ocean to get there tho.

They must be doing good(at least so far) to run out of a lot of the desserts and the rolls. I went there earlier this week and it was OK. I really liked the turkey and I found the broiled fish and rice OK, but I was hoping to find Catfish and Potato Wedges(they did have fries which were OK) both of which are listed on their online menu. I am guessing the Catfish may only be served during premium weekends.

I have eaten a quite a few GCs and they usually have catfish , at least in the evening most every time I have been to one. They had it the Monday that we went , so they may just have run out . Sometimes tho, you may have to wait a little while for them to cook another batch , but that goes for most of their food.

In other GCs , I usually get some of their fried catfish, and I usually find it really good. However, my 70 years old stomach does not tolerate much fried anything anymore unless I pill up on Zantac , or some PPI pills.
If I can get whole catfish, I always get it - first because I just grew up eating whole fish , and second , the fried breading is only on one side, as opposed to the fillets which are breaded and fried on both sides.
GC has never to my knowledge offered whole fish . I like their backed fish and on weekends I like their salmon . At one time they had a baked taliphia with a cream sauce on it that was great, but I have not found that in quite a while.
Maybe I am just glad to find some broiled fish that is actually good that I am easily pleased. Ryans fish , whatever kind , sucked.

Unfortunately Ryan's and their management seemed to not care about quality anymore and Golden Corral was cleaning their clock in almost all locations that they were in the market together.  Frankly I don't see how Ryans is going to make it.  Seems like they are going to go the way of K-Mart, Sears and Radio Shack.

The wife & I are looking forward to trying out GC. I have to admit, I have never been to Golden Corral. So, we are looking forward to the experience of Good Food Buffet. Can't wait...

I sure do miss eating Beer Battered Cod on Fridays, in Milwaukee..."Friday Night Fish Fry's"... That was where I fell in Love with Cod...

If a Buffet can offer an excellent Fish, they are truly on top of their game...

I guess it all depends upon what you compare their food to . Shrimp is better at Wolf Bay down at Orange Beach, Catfish is better at Pickwick, BBQ is better in Memphis, and wet ribs are better at Colbert Heights Cafe, (they don't have dry ribs ),Prime Rib is better at Durgin Park in Boston, and Broiled Salmon is better in Seattle . But , GC has above average tasting all of those on their buffet.
This GC does not seem to have the desert selection that other ones have, have never seen that great chocolate pie that the others have. but their strawberries with that chocolate fountain stuff on them is good enough for me.
