Chicago (AFP) - Chicago hit a grim milestone Tuesday, with more than a thousand people shot in the Midwestern US city since the beginning of the year.

According to the Chicago Tribune newspaper 1,008 people have been shot in the city -- at least 182 fatally -- since the beginning of January, a pace roughly unchanged since the same period last year.

The largest city in the Midwest has been struggling with a stubbornly high murder rate that peaked at more than 750 last year, the highest in two decades.

The Chicago Police Department (CPD) offered conflicting data for the first four months of 2017, saying 172 people were killed and 954 shot -- a nine percent decline compared to the same period last year.

The police department did not account for shootings on area expressways under the jurisdiction of a separate agency, which could explain the conflicting data, according to CPD spokesman Kevin Quaid.

There were also 3,500 shootings, mostly concentrated in poor sections of the city with rampant gang and drug-related violence.

The city plans to hire nearly 1,000 additional officers over two years to address the problem, and is increasingly relying on high-tech solutions.

Quaid highlighted the addition of "intelligence hubs" in the city's violence-plagued neighborhoods as one reason they are reporting fewer shootings so far this year.

"Officers and data analysts run historical crime data, gang intelligence, and social networking analytics through predictive software programming to help officers focus on the right people, at the right place, at the right time," Quaid told AFP in an email.

Chicago police last week became the first US police agency to use a new web tool where residents can anonymously report crime.

A thousand shot, less than 200 killed. No marksmanship is there?

Criminals tend to be lazy.  Marksmanship is a discipline that takes time and effort.

Too, the kids are small targets.

There's an 18th century sniper quote that fits here, but Bud's not gonna repeat it.  Nosiree.

He could come over here and join jesssie jackssson whine
about all the city contracts blacks aren't receiving from the
new white mayor. Last 20 years mempho was black mayor
and white businesses had to take it to court and sue for fair
trade agreements. The idiots have nothing of a case but j.j.
lives on tax payer money and Sharpton never pays taxes, so
they must have a right, don't you know. Did j.j. ever attend
those speech classes he so badly needed... Just asking

Who said Trump doesn't pay taxes?

Gifted, after someone released one of his tax returns, Trump said it's so, I don't pay taxes.

He paid 35 Million US ******* Dollars. why did he do that jt..??

Think of the jobs Trump created that pay taxes.  Blue collar jobs!

Obama created jobs that the taxpayers paid for.

Jesse and Al are good for law enforcement job security as was Obama for the firearms industry.  Lots of 1099s there.  Gots to give 'em dey cred.

How many Trump or Ivanka products are made in america?

The question is, how many companies are coming back and/or
making more products in America, also relocating their
headquarters here. All because of President Trump.
One example:

Wal-Mart, as you may have heard, has pledged to spend an additional $250 billion over the next 10 years on products made in America. Boston Consulting Group has predicted this commitment will create 1 million jobs. Wal-Mart, of course, is the world’s biggest retailer and the biggest importer in the U.S. It employs 1.3 million “associates” in its native land, and revenue at Wal-Mart U.S. last year was $279 billion (as well as another $57 billion at Sam’s Club).

Ya'll notice how old jt came to the thread to pull it off subject. See his posts? Nothing to do with the violence in Chicago.

Gifted, I answered Kravens post. But you're right, I should have started another post.

Gifted, snapperhead didn't answer my post, he never does, he'll
repeat a previous comment because he has no/none/zero answers.

I know. He waits a while then brings back the same tired old argument.

You posted that answer twice at different times, which you
pulled out of your azz and had nothing to do with Trump.
To be clear, Trump never said he didn't paid taxes, that came
from your romper room mind. If he did say he didn't pay taxes
show me any fragment of proof you might also have hidden
up your azz. Today is Wednesday.

In the campaign mode, somebody leaked a Trump tax form. I think from 1994, he showed a big loss and spread it out over years and paid no fed tax for years. Trump said that showed he was smart. I can't argue with that. If it was legal, I fault the ones who voted that tax law in.

And yet you take every legal deduction there is, and brag about getting refunds. Maybe we should fault the ones that allow you to do that.
