Nashville Preparing to Become Most Liberal Sanctuary City in the U.S.

Listening to a Nashville Radio station late last month is when I first was made aware of the City ordinances/bills in which two Metro Council members were drawing up for the Metro Council to vote into enactment, for Nashville and Davison County, Tennessee.

“Two ordinances filed by Metro Councilmen Bob Mendes and Colby Sledge, drafted with the assistance of the TN Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC) and cheered on by Mayor Megan Barry, will make Davidson County and Metro Nashville the most liberal sanctuary city in the U.S.; in fact, even more liberal in its policies than New York City or San Francisco".

At first, when listening to WTN- 99.7 FM Station, I thought it was just a Spoof Segment to rouse attention to their show. The more I listened, Turned out to be a Real “Change of Life” for Citizens of Nashville/Davison County. Draft was about to be enacted into Law by Metro Council, supported & encouraged by Mayor Megan Barry to Challenge the federal immigration laws already on the books, regarding illegals. Seems the ordinance/law would Not Allow the use of city/county jails or money to used as aid to Federal agencies from, holding criminal illegal immigrants for deportation by ICE. Or a county employee could not "ask" if a person is here illegality or such inquire about that person.

From what I heard, from people calling into the station during the morning show. 90% of the callers were Extremely Upset & rightfully so. There were a few who were OK with the move toward being a “Sanctuary City”, even with the troubles associated with folks not wanting to assimilate to the American way of Life & laws or committing a few crimes along the way, while here illegally.

If Nashville initiates, then who’s Next… Huntsville, Decatur, Florence, or Loretto,TN….

How did Nashville get to this point? From Music Row to Sanctuary Row…Doesn’t sound like, in the future, a very Safe place to Visit any more.

Ñot at all hard to believe. The Muslims are taking over in Tennessee, and so that makes Tenneesee  low hanging fruit, easy pickings for the socialists. Nashville hasn't been a safe place to visit in many, many years.

So True, Not a Safe town to walk to your car after dark... Let just say, "Less Safe" compared to today's questionable Safeness.

BTW - Mayor is Democrat walking in lock-step with TN Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition - (TIRRC)

Speaking of Socialist - TIRRC, an affiliate of the National Council of La Raza and a recipient of funding from a George Soros front group, has been agitating for Nashville to formalize its informal sanctuary city practices since the election of President Trump.

The Stars are Aligning....

Union Leaders for Trump

Feeling betrayed by Democrats, blue-collar trade unions throw their support to a Republican president.

America’s blue-collar unions just had their best week in years. On his first Monday as president, Donald Trump formally withdrew the United States from what union leaders considered a jobs-killing trade deal, the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP). Later in the week, labor honchos met in the White House with Trump to discuss his plans for a massive infrastructure-building program that will likely employ tens of thousands of workers. Trump also signed orders that potentially revived the Keystone XL and Dakota pipelines—two projects that trade unions have heavily backed but that the Obama administration had refused to approve.

The union leaders, whose membership once constituted the core of the Democratic Party, were effusive in their praise of a president who knows their business perhaps better than anyone who’s ever held the office. “We believe that President Trump really is going to put America first,” said Sean McGarvey, president of North America’s Building Trades Unions, after the White House meeting.

And I thought unions were against Republicans.

This past election taught America a lesson.

A Republican candidate for POTUS went right out for Union support and promised them jobs and told them how he was going to do it.

Union turned around and supported a candidate who had a track record of creating jobs.

Together, they, and American labor including right-to-work are the fast track to MAGA.

Rising tide floats all boats.

Wait...Do you want higher union wages or cheap labor?

It's not going to be either - or.

Unions should know by now or they will know when Trump informs them that if you overprice American goods, customers won't buy even if you put an American flag stamp on it.  Within that profit, the workers must make a decent wage and the business a decent profit to grow the business.  Neither should stagnate.  The two work hand and glove.  Or a tightwire balancing act if you will.  But both should embrace the goals of the other.  This adversarial BS advice like you find on this forum ain't gonna cut it.  You ain't gonna work for him and he's not going to hire you gets you nothing but a couple of frustrated cats sitting at a computer pounding on a blog thinking their impressive.

Work, dammit work!

Been saying it from jump start.  It was the blue collar union workers in the Rust Belt States who elected Trump.

Trump has already gotten from the traditionally Republican voting states all he was going to get.  If he didn't get some votes from somewhere Republicans had never gotten before, he was gone.

The traditionally Democrat union workers gave Trump that shot for the hope that he would create jobs as he promised.

You won't see this on CNN, but jobs are rolling in.  Thank you Union voters.  I hope things turn around for you.  And for right-to-work laborers as well.

Well good...Maybe Alabama will stop being a right to work state.  My job isn't going to a low wage country. My coworkers and I could use a raise though.

Then whatever you and your coworkers produce had better sell well enough that you deserve a raise. Union member or not, the realities of the marketplace can't be legislated away. If your skills are cheaper elsewhere, fuhgettaboutit on that raise; but if your skills are enough in demand elsewhere, you and your coworkers can demand more pay or find a better employer.

Maybe Alabama will stop being a right to work state - Naio.

Unlikely.  Folks in this state prefer the independence to make their own choices.

What would help workers in right to work states would be portable insurance.

Naio, republicans and a real union person don't get along.                                          Bud, you better check his track record on real job creation. Also, right to work really means right to work for less. Right now the rising tide is benefiting CEOs and share owners. The labor force is getting very little in comparison.

Right to work means that folks who want to work can while others, like yourself who call yourselves a real union person, sit on your butts waiting for Daddy Union to find them a higher paying job when no jobs exist.   You think for one second the blue collar union workers in the Rust Belt States give a hoot in hell what the CEO makes so long as they can work?  I'd love to be in the Union Hall when you announced they were not real Union people.  Gawd!

In the meantime, coal mines in Kentucky that once were closed and had no future under a Democrat administration are reopening.  Your deductive reasoning is these are not real jobs but recreations and do not count as new jobs.

you better check his track record on real job creation.  Right back atcha.  You're plagiarizing a Republican complaint of the former Obama administration.  Difference is, they had stats for the fake jobs.  You don't.
