With great running backs and quarterbacks transferring to other colleges so to hope to get playing time I wonder how the Alabama running backs will compete?

Will Bo Scarbrough remain healthy and shine as the dominate Bama back or will Damien Harris or Josh Jacobs stand up and stand out? Talent wise you have to consider 5 Star recruit, Najee Harris but it appears the heyday time of multiple backs has returned now to see how Daboll will use his talent because he also has Calvin Ridley just waiting to open it up along with Yet another talented freshman receiver in Jerry Jeudy. Then comes the wild card and that is if he (Daboll) will use Hurts running ability.  What would be really interesting is to see both Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa in at the same time with Hurts either being QB A RB whatever the option. Certainly would be a pain for defenses to scheme against. Which great QB will throw on run the ball and throw to which great, elusive RB or go to Ridley for the long ball.

Hopefully lots of College football fun to come but most of all I hope they all remain healthy and uninjured.

Oh I do agree!  I think that would be a mixed recruiting incentive.  On one hand if you want to be the best, compete against the best then Bama is a great school to go to  but then if you want to play initially then going to Bama might not be your best move because they have so much talent there even 5 Star athletes may have to set longer to get to play and unless you are the best then you might not have that chance.

I thought that Texas A&M was going to keep the SEC wins going but that great comeback that UCLA did was unbelievable.  Now what's unbelievable is Kevin Sumlin, I think that's their coach, making it to next year.    A beating like that sticks with a team, and a fan base.  I couldn't believe that any team could be up 44 to 10 late in the 3rd qtr and end up losing the game but Texas A&M sure proved it can be done.

As for the Alabama Florida State Game that was almost like watching Alabama vs LSU all over again.  The game was costly to both teams though.  Florida State lost their starting Quarter Back and Alabama lost 3 maybe 4 Linebackers from what I have been reading today.  I'm also still not comfortable, as a fan, with Alabama's field goal kicking game and I don't know if it was just Florida State's great defense or that Alabama has an offense problem because to have the ball that many times in Florida State's end of the field, due to turnovers, and not come away with more points was surprising.

No it wasn't due to pulling the starters.  UCLA caught fire along with several other improbable things happening such as a missed field goal by A&M and one of Rosen's passes passed right through the hands of a defender in such a way that it's almost impossible to believe that it wasn't intercepted then one play where Rosen was about to be sacked, and in a play totally like the pass that Ole Miss QB made to beat Alabama that year, before falling down he just tossed the ball (he stated he was attempting to throw it away) back toward the end zone and sideline but the dead duck ball fell squarely into the hands of a UCLA receiver in the end zone.  The receiver was one of four players (2 UCLA & 2 A&M) that were back in the end zone.  The way the ball was tossed up it was up for grabs and apparently none of the A&M defenders ever saw the ball whereas the UCLA receiver saw it and received it right at the goal line and right in front of the two defenders.

The comeback was so improbable and was a streak of lucky things that just had to go right and did that I think A&M players were just in a trance not believing what they were experiencing and seeing.

If anyone is to be blamed then pass it around.  Highly motivated UCLA players playing above their abilities and Rosen with an extremely hot hand and extra luck.  On A&M's part the players naturally could have done things differently such the player that allowed the ball to go through his hands or the two defenders in the end zone could have fought for the toss up dead duck ball or the field goal kicker and special team but also coaches on A&M were almost deer in headlights.  John Chavis (former Tennessee Defensive Coordinator) certainly bears the burden of blame because he didn't change up (or if so it wasn't apparent) A&M's defensive schemes in response to UCLA's 4th qtr comeback.  Kevin Sumlin also seemed to just be a deer caught in the headlights as everything played out right in front of him.  The A&M Offensive Coordinator didn't appear to play to take time away from UCLA but didn't seem to change the emphasis in the 2nd Half.

Texas A&M's team was the best team on the field that night regardless of the end score but they did get outplayed in the 4th quarter and allowed themselves to be beat.  Planets aligned for UCLA because certainly luck was on their side so it was one of those things that happened but the A&M coaches will always have to assume blame and most likely justly applied.  I don't think it's a reflection on their current season as much as it is a reflection of their last three seasons summed up in a game.  Great performance for 3/4ths of the time and falling apart in the last 1/4th.

It was a sight to see and was a great game, if you like UCLA or hate A&M but will not affect A&M's chances to win the SEC west and they can come back and play much better if they don't get stuck in the defeat.  Comebacks do happen, just ask Georgia Tech & Tennessee.  As with so many games last year, Tennessee got outplayed most of the game except the last when it counted.  Georgia Tech was never stopped but gave up the ball twice on fumbles at very critical times and both prevented them from scoring and did miss a critical field goal to a Tennessee team that got hot when they needed it.

Sometimes THINGS HAPPEN and this weekend it happened to A&M and Georgia Tech, both teams that outplayed, for the most part, their opponent only to see it slip away to a team that was outplayed for most of the game.  A wins a win so we will see how it affects all four teams as the season wears on.

With regards to Alabama, which I'm a fan of, I was concerned that our offense, other than , Damien Harris and Calvin Ridley appeared to be handled by Tech's defense.  Although, at times, it did appear that Hurts seemed more comfortable in his position I am still concerned that the passing program could be hampered by his abilities.  I hope I'm wrong though and maybe the coming weeks will prove me to be wrong.

I think in one way that the coaches are reluctant to put in Tua Tagovailoa for fear that he will shine far above Hurt's and thus cause conflict within the team and coaches going forward but you just know he needs to have some time behind center.  I think the coming week may give him that time.

Regarding the other Freshmen standouts I didn't think that Najee Harris had too impressive of a start but at least he has some time with the ball in a real game but Tech did contain him well.  Najee though, with his size and ability should become the #1 Running Back easily in the years to come.  Jerry Jeudy on the other hand had a great catch, all be it, negated by a penalty but Alabama certainly has weapons that have yet to be utilized.

Going forward I, as a fan, am highly encouraged with this year's team but still uncertain how the Defensive line will mature and progress particularly with respect to the last years.  One fear, at this point, is how much an affect the loss of the two Linebackers along with injuries to two others, will have in some of the upcoming games.  My greatest fear though is what was revealed by the turnovers that the defense did come up with.  Alabama should have had at least 14 additional points without question.  Alabama's offense failed three times, at least, to take advantage of "golden" opportunities given them. and at other times seemed anemic and ineffective and I don't know, with the talent they have, if it's just that they need time to gel together or if there is a bad problem with the Offensive line that needs fixed.  I think for most fans it's the ineffective offense that will be most concerning along with the status of the kicking game especially in the field goal area.  Many teams suffer with that problem but  Alabama has been off and on for the last four years with Griffith and I was hoping that now that Griffith had graduated and moved on that they would have someone (talented at place kicking as Scott is at punting) able to relieve doubts at that position.

As with most things ... time will tell.

Barn burner. If UCLA had played the entire game like they played the last 10 minutes they'd have beat A&M 100 to 0.

Yep.  It was a barn burner, and this from a AU fan.

And if TAM had scored so much as a safety in the last 10 minutes, they would have won.

So it goes.

Glad I didn't see A&M get Trashed like that...

Saw last night, an influential individual in the A&M System, spoke out publicly on FB... Sumlin needs to be Fired!!!

Houston attorney Tony Buzbee offered his thoughts on Facebook on Sunday night after Texas A&M blew a 34-point lead to lose 45-44 in Los Angeles. He wrote:

"I'm sure I may be criticized for this post but I honestly don't care. I've been on the Board of Regents for the A&M System for almost seven years.

Nick Saban, and Alabama, has made it tough on SEC Coaches as now many of the other fan bases expect the same results as Alabama seems to get each year.  While it's a real pressure cooker for a lot of Coaches such as Sumlin these days none of them are going to be suffering too much as most of them have good enough salaries and buy out clauses in their contracts that will leave them well compensated for years to come.

Actually if you think about it given the salary and what most coaches like Auburn's Gene Chizik  $7.55 million in monthly installments over the next four years. When Auburn fired Tommy Tuberville in 2008, it owed him $5.083 and he was then making 3 million a year I believe.   Kevin Sumlin's contract I believe is said to pay him over 15 million if they fire him so for Coaches, especially in the SEC, getting fired isn't such a bad thing in fact if any of us got a check for just their buyout we would be set for the rest of our lives as if we won a lottery jackpot from 6 numbers.

So let's not have too much sympathy for them we expect miracles and looks like we pay them miracle worker salaries.  I know Butch  Jones (Tennessee) got a half million dollar salary increase last summer, at least that is what I heard.   Heck almost sounds like (except for maybe Texas or Florida) the coach of the States main University Football team  is likely the highest paid employee in the state.  So yes the stresses and demands upon a coach are astronomical so are the benefits they get.  Heck Chizik may have been Saban's enemy come November each year but when you think about it all these college Coaches owe Nick Saban a great deal given him and Alabama have set standards for College coaching salaries that have benefited most all College coaches and Tommy Tuberville gets credit for establishment of huge golden parachute buyout clauses that many schools award.

How many scholarships (not football mind you since those are set by the NCAA) could just one of those buy outs have funded for students to the University?  No wonder you have these coaches smiling ear to ear when they get one of the SEC jobs, at least in Alabama and many other SEC states.

College Football is a BIG BUSINESS but then Football, College or Pro is big business.  Just ponder for a moment that in Atlanta the Falcons got a huge new 1.5 BILLION dollar stadium built next to a multi million dollar stadium that was in itself state of the art and very modern.   Same with the Braves baseball team leaving a fairly new, nice, beautiful stadium in downtown Atlanta for a newer stadium in North Atlanta's suburbs closer to where most of the players live and closer to the high dollar neighborhoods.  Actually the dollar amounts just amaze me and it's crazy.

Tuberville?  Tubervile brought AU 6 Iron Bowl wins.  Not the Bear, but neither sides have come close since.  And a perfect 2004 season afterwards he went duck hunting.  Bear would find no fault with that.

Chizik?  Chizik maybe a one trick pony, but coached an pre-season unranked team to the NC.

So these coaches had a little wiggle room for negotiation.  No doubt $aban helped with that.

But pre-Saban and post Stallings, what was Bama's payout for these coaches?

Mike Dubose - Although DuBose was not implicated in any wrongdoing, Alabama was nevertheless hammered for the violations that occurred on his watch, which included a loss of 21 scholarships over three years, a two-year bowl ban, and five years of probation

Dennis Franchione -  The turnaround success Franchione made prompted Alabama officials to offer Franchione a 10-year contract extension worth $15 million. Franchione, however, did not sign the offer. Following Alabama's victory over the University of Hawaii and the dismissal of Texas A&M head coach R. C. Slocum, Franchione resigned at Alabama and was named head coach at Texas A&M after publicly stating that he would not leave.

Mike Price - Price may be best known nationally for an off-the-field incident during his brief stint at Alabama

Mike Shula - Alabama ended the season by losing their final three games to Mississippi State at home, LSU, and their fifth consecutive Iron Bowl loss to in state rival Auburn, ending with a 6–6 record. On November 26, one week after the Iron Bowl loss, Alabama athletic director Mal Moore notified Mike Shula that he would not be retained as the University of Alabama's head football coach for the 2007 season.[9] The University of Alabama had to pay Shula $4 million left on his contract after they fired him.  Sources - wiki.

Tthe AU marriages were good for a while, Bama maybe a little less,  yet divorce don't come cheap no matter how good or bad.

So why are divorces so expensive?

Because they're worth it.

And that's the way the schools see it.

Thought you Might Like the Ag School comment. AU, some of my best old friends & Business buddies were AU grads... All good folks...

You bet.

They can call me a "barner" if they want.  I really don't mind.  It's like being called a redneck.  Bring it.  I'm proud of my AU ties and my ag heritage.  And my Bama friends, which outnumber AU around here, know and respect it.

Tennessee’s Rashaan Gaulden flops, gets Florida’s Brandon Powell ejected

Florida junior wideout Brandon Powell was ejected in the fourth quarter of the Gators’ game against Tennessee on Saturday for throwing a punch at Tennessee defensive back Rashaan Gaulden after a play, but replays caused the call to come into question.

Video from an overhead camera showed Powell simply brushing the facemask of Gaulden after a standoff near midfield, which wouldn’t be grounds for an ejection. But Gaulden jumped into the air and swirled around, causing a referee to throw a flag and deem that a punch was thrown.

Tennessee would go on to get the ball from Florida, and score to take a 38–21 lead.
