I tried Lawler's in Killen this evening and I must say, what I had was good(I won't say great but definitely good). I had the combo plate with pulled ham and pulled pork. Both were good, which considering today was their first day open means something. I'd already had their pulled pork while in Huntsville but this is the first time I have had their pulled ham. The combo plate came with 2 sides but I chose Lay's original and BBQ flavored potato chips for the sides so I don't know how good their house made sides are. They serve Pepsi products(Dr. Pepper instead of Dr. Wham), but I don't know how good their drink mix is because I got 2 Mountain Dew Baja Blasts from Taco Bell to drink instead of getting drinks at Lawler's. The combo plate did not come with a drink. For this week I think their hours are 5 PM - 8 PM but plan on serving lunch in about 10 days. For now they are drive through only but will also have carryout very soon.

Their sides and salads are nothing to write home about. The loaded baked potato at the Madison Lawler's is very good. The one in Athens not as good.

The drive through/walk up only options is going to be a negative for me. I will most likely be eating my own barbecue from my pit unless I make occasion to eat lunch there.

What all choices do they have? Do they have ribs?

They have pulled beef, pulled ham, pull pork, pulled Saint Louis style ribs, and pulled turkey for meat choices. You can get a sampler that includes of all that for around 20 dollars.

I waited for the training period to be over before trying it but made my first order today.  Although walk-in is available now I went through the Drive-Thru and it wasn't too awfully long of a wait.

I chose to get a 1/2 rack of the St. Louis Ribs and a BBQ Pork Sandwich as well as a side of BBQ Beans.  As with any cuisine or restaurant taste is subjective depending on the person but for my part I thought Lawler's was some of the best BBQ I've had and was better or equal to any that I've had in this area.  The Mild sauce (which is what I always get) was thinner than what I am used to but was quite tasty.  As for the ribs they are my "new" favorite in the area.  I still liked the 2nd Street Rib Shack when they were in business and thought they had the best ribs but they are no more.   I also liked Bad Bob's Ribs when they had their Muscle Shoals location but when it closed I was again looking for a place to find good ribs.    Sam's Grille actually has some very good ribs but they are quite sweet but also very good.   Lawler's St. Louis Ribs were thankfully very good and I believe is my new favorite rib in the Shoal's area.

I'm not much for the walk-in or drive-thru only as I like setting down and eating in the restaurant but given that Lawler's in Killen will not ever have a dining room I'll have to just keep taking them home, which I will do.

If you ever see a Shane's BBQ then give it a try sometimes because they have a good product also.  I don't know where the closest one is because I got used to eating at Shane's when I lived in McDonough, Georgia as that's where they originated and originated with a local family there.  Since then they have franchised their product/locations along with Moe's so they are more places than around McDonough, Ga and I always liked their product also.  I'm just glad to have another selection available in the Shoals.
