At a time when the Trump administration and much of the free world was establishing a stranglehold on North Korea with sanctions due to North Korea's (and Kim Jong-un's) actions particularly with respect to missile launches and Nuclear test, and promoting the line that North Korea was unwilling to negotiate now comes the Olympics and the appearance of a some semblance of Korean unity in Sports.
Kim Jung-un along with his Sister has seemingly, with the help of NBC News broadcast, and the marching together with their South Korean counterparts, has positioned themselves as more a conventional leader and made it seem as if there was some room for negotiation and diplomacy where there seemed to be none before. Some could say that Kim Jung-un, along with his sister, on upped Donald Trump and the American delegation putting them in a position of appearing to be the bully and the more rigid party. No one is fooled into thinking that Kim Jung-un has completely changed and is now going to be a good neighbor on the world stage but unlike before now he has positioned himself to where he is more controlling the narrative playing on the world stage and you can bet China and Russia will be more than willing to reinforce that. Now it puts the United States behind the 8-Ball, so to say, and allows "HOPE", to overshadow reality and his actions prior to the opening ceremonies, of the Olympics. In a Global World where words often mean everything and Political correctness still rules in many quarters, has North Korea, through instilling HOPE in people that some avenue of potential future cooperation might exist?
In other words was Kim Jong-un's move a brilliant strategic political move to offset the narrative that the United States and the Trump Administration was selling to the World about North Korea and it's leadership? At the very least it appears, at least to me, that Kim Jong-un has bought himself, and North Korea, a bit more time with South Korea and potentially much of the Global leaders surely including China and Russia who already were sympathetic to North Korea but being increasingly put in a difficult position by Kim Jong-un's actions pre-Olympics.
