I'm wondering what's going on at Ford Motor Company?  I hear that they are doing away with their traditional passenger cars, for the most part with the exception of a new subcompact and the performance Mustang as well as concentrating on SUV's and Trucks.

I can remember when Ford controlled the Police and Taxi's business with their LTD model but now it looks as if they are going to roll over and surrender all the passenger car business to KIA, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and of course Chevrolet.  Looks like Chevy is going to have a new market for their Impala and Malibu vehicles.  Then maybe the Ford Tarus and the Fusion wasn't as good a sellers as I thought they were.   I actually realize that the Tarus was not too popular but I was fairly sure that the Fusion was a great mover for Ford especially with the Hybrid models.  Looks like I was very wrong on that one.

I will reply to my own post as I found the following on MSN website.  Looks like the executive at Ford, making the decisions, is no automotive expert at all but someone that isn't at all familiar or experienced in the Automotive field unlike his counterpart at GM who continues to bet on a full diverse product line.

I, personally, feel Ford is making a bad mistake and I feel for the employees that work at the plants making the car lines that will be obsoleted or killed.  One even wonders if there is a backup plan to reverse the decision or if Ford is taking a Russian roulette move with a six-shooter loaded with five shells.

Ford's possible outcome ---- Total failure

Again I can understand Ford considering the Taurus as a move to eliminate a car that didn't quite perform up to expectations but in eliminating the LTD from production Ford gave other competitors, especially Dodge, a great advantage in the competition for service vehicles such as taxis and specifically police cruizers.  Then again many police organizations are moving to trucks and SUVs to replace the older standard type police cruisers such as the LTD or the Impala.  When gas prices do go back up as expected those Ford Fusions that are hybrids will be in great demand but no longer be on the market.  Too many times a person with no experience in the business their put in control of makes horrible decisions that ends up killing the company yet the person responsible escapes with a golden parachute and no negative effects from their horrible decisions.

interesting,,, the top three selling vehicles for years have been trucks.  The F150, then chevy, then dodge have been in that order.  If you take out service vehicles and rental companies the ford product is way down the list.  Service/rentals also lower the value of personal cars bought.

Now the flip of that is mandates that cars get a higher MPG.  Don't believe the hype on hybrids. By the time you pay more because of the dual energy power you don't save any money.  I have seen figures where if you trade your hybrid in before 8 years you actually spend more money than a regular car.  This is figured by extra cost to buy vs gas savings.  Then there is the discussion that hybrid batteries are actually worse for the global warming beliefs.

As far as dodge and Chevrolet,  they still have the worse records for reliability.  Chevrolet advertises all the "great" add ons. Their rep. is they sacrifice quality for luxury add ons.

Honda then Subaru have the best long term reliability ratings.

I love many of the products that GM has put out including the Cruze, Malibu, and Impala as well as many of the imports raising their game.   It just seems that Ford has chosen to throw in the towel rather than innovate and compete.  I've purchased Ford products lately and my 2010 Ford Lariat still is such good Truck that I can't justify spending the difference in money to upgrade to a newer truck as the one I'm driving is just that good, at least to me.  I am though encouraged with Ford deciding to bring back the Ranger truck and the talk of the introduction of Hybrid model F150's in 2020 as well as a Mustang Hybrid but I'm still not sold on whether or not the savings will pan out.

The fact that you can't understand makes it no less true.
