(TeaParty.org) – There is not a single American alive today who a) owned a slave or b) was a slave. African Americans have never had more opportunities in our society, and under the current administration, we see record-low black unemployment rates.

Things are going well for the black community, better than ever after a very fraught history in our country.

Nonetheless, you should pay up.

This is Shiela Jackson Lee’s reasoning in a new bill which sets up the framework for Americans to pay other Americans reparations for slavery despite no one alive today having anything to do with the abolished godless institution.

Sound fair to you?

Didn’t think so.

Last January, House Resolution 40 was introduced, which seeks “(t)o address the fundamental injustice, cruelty, brutality, and inhumanity of slavery in the United States and the 13 American colonies between 1619 and 1865 and to establish a commission to study and consider a national apology and proposal for reparations for the institution of slavery, its subsequent de jure and de facto racial and economic discrimination against African-Americans, and the impact of these forces on living African-Americans, to make recommendations to the Congress on appropriate remedies, and for other purposes.”

The bill was originally introduced by now-disgraced Democrat Rep. John Conyers of Michigan, and is now being picked up by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas, who hopes to push it now that Dems have control of the House.

“It’s a commission to study the issue of what was the economic impact of the work of slaves and how does it translate in the 21st century,” Jackson Lee said recently at the Legislative and Policy Conference of Al Sharpton’s National Action Network.

“And what we want to do is to build a narrative, a story of the facts and out of that be able to access how we repair some of the damage.”

“When you look at urban blight, when you look at schools in inner cities and rural communities that are not at the level of excellence that they should be, when you look at support for (historically black colleges and universities), all of that will be part of understanding that whole journey and that whole economic journey,” she continued.

“And it is interesting that these magnificent buildings were built by slaves, obviously with no compensation. That is not what we are asking for; this bill is to have a commission to hear from people all over the nation.”

The bill, Lee says, will be “a beginning process and an educational process for the nation in a non-controversial manner, and not in a manner of pitting one group of people against another.”

In what world is making Americans fork over cash as reparations for something they never did “non-controversial”?

Lee’s logic is, of course, flawed, at best. She assumes that urban blight is in existence today because of slavery, as if there aren’t a wealth of other factors that contribute to the crime and poverty rates in inner-city black communities, like fatherlessness, the welfare system, and organized crime.

In reality, it would be vastly difficult, if not outright impossible, to fairly determine who should pay how much and why, when it’s so complex to quantify exactly how directly slavery has affected living conditions for African-Americans today.

Sounds like the Democrats are off to a great start in the House. How many other ways will they find to waste our money in the next two years?
