I was glad to see, while in Decatur today, that Longhorn Steakhouse is building and going to open a location in Decatur in the Target shopping area. That is the same location as the Five Guys hamburger place as well as Ross and other stores. That will be a bit closer than the one that is in Huntsville. I doubt that Longhorn will ever locate in the Shoals area but at least Decatur is closer now.

Don't know how many of you have tried Longhorn but they are, in my opinion, far above Logan's, Texas Roadhouse, and even Outback. Huntsville was the closest location but they are always packed, not that the new one in Decatur will be any less packed. At least some things looking up.

I believe that Longhorn Steakhouses, which was started and owned out of Atlanta, Georgia, was purchased and is now owned and operated by the same folks that own Red Lobster and Olive Garden. Given that we have both an Olive Garden and Red Lobster here in the Shoals and both seem to be doing well maybe there is a chance that Longhorn will look at the Shoals as a potential location in the future. Then again maybe I'm just daydreaming and hoping because it's my favorite Steakhouse.
Longhorn kicks butt on both "Roadhouse" franchises. So does Lone Star, another good steak restaurant chain. Lone Star used to have a Cajun prime rib that beat just about any steak I have ever had. Haven't eaten there in a while, but I hope that is still on the menu.

I would as soon just eat the sirloin on the buffet at Ryan's as the inferior steak at the "Roadhouse" joints. Costs less and is just as good.
I think the quality varies, Zuter, meaning not all Longhorn Steakhouse meals taste the same. The first couple of times I ate at Longhorn, I loved it, but not so much on my last visit. All three (maybe more - sorry, travel too often) visits were different locations. I like pepper, but on my last visit, the cook(s) over-peppered or over-marinated everything. Of course, I didn't have a margarita that last visit either..hmmm... Wink The do have awesome margaritas.
ate at the one in Jones Valley and wasn't impressed at all. had a ribeye and it wasn't seasoned at all, very bland. anyone who knows a thing or two about grilling knows that at a bare minimum you should always use salt and pepper. i may give it another try some day, like others said, they vary depending on the location and which day you may go.
Only, when cheapskates, like you, I guess, don't tip like they should!
Well, people being cheap tipping is one issue. Two of my daughters watressed at some point in college. Cheap tippers are a problem. Another problem is places that have 50% more wait staff than necessary, hence, dropping everypne's 'take'. Any why not over staff - at $2.18 an hour, you can afford extra employees 'just in case' you're busy. A 5 hour shift with $13 in tips is pretty sad.
We ate at Longhorn on University in Huntsville 2 weeks ago. Our steaks had a flat taste w/no spices. After checking with our waitress, I found out they are not grilled. They're cooked on one of those things you see at Waffle House.
As far as tipping, my husband tips according to our service. If we get good service, he tips very well. Poor service, he won't leave more than $3-$4.
The wife and I had an excellent meal at the Huntsville location of Longhorn steakhouse. You can ask that any steak be cooked over the flame grill and not on the flat grill. Their new homemade potato chips with dip are also excellent. In conversing with the manager we (wife and I) inquired as to when the Decatur location would open and he said around May. Additionally he said that they are looking at the Florence area as well but it's most likely two years off but, according him, on the way. They are looking at Florence and Athens as the next locations to open. I never thought I'd hear it.
