This is a reminder, because I am guessing that most of the people who read the politics forum are old enough to remember George Bush, and David Iglesias.

David Iglesias was the US Attorney for New Mexico and was asked to investigate a few thousand people who were purged from New Mexico's Voter registration list on suspicion of vote fraud. These people were not dead, they were suspected of being in the USA illegally. They were ALL registered to vote, and if they were also in the USA illegally they were also guilty of at least one, and probably multiple felonies.

David Iglasias, as US Attorney in New Mexico Launched an investigation. He looked at several hundred of the alleged vote frauds, and found that EVERY CASE WAS AN ERROR. No crimes had been committed, the people purged from the voter rolls were NOT illegal immigrants, but US Citizens in good standing. Iglesias, STOPPED INVESTIGATIONS. He also got fired.

Here's a counterpoint:

quote:
— GOP activist Shelley Hayner and 11 volunteers audited the votes in Dona Ana County, N.M. Among other glitches, they discovered that 5,509 absentee ballots were submitted with signatures, yet 6,456 were counted in the November 2000 final, official tally. When journalist Federico Almarez asked Denise Lamb in the secretary of state's office to explain these 947 phantom votes, she blamed "administrative lapses."

Albert Gore won New Mexico by 366 votes.
