Hi all,

Firenze tells us, accurately quoting from Genesis 1, "Whether you believe the Bible or not, it states that God created all animals to  be herbivorous (vegetarian). 29 "And God said, 'Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30 And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.'  And it was so.""

SeniorCoffee asks, "So since the average carnivore proves that to be hogwash, why would you quote it as an example.  The only thing it shows is how out of touch with reality the Bible really is.  Did all the herbivores evolve into carnivores since it was written?"

And, Vic, jumps in with, "Sanka, You miss the whole point of the point God was making.  You know Cain was the first human to eat meat after he was run out of town, don't you?"

SeniorCoffee asks Vic, "I'm not a Biblical scholar by any stretch of the imagination even though I've read several versions.  And really haven't spent much time with the Old Testament, so please educate me and direct me to the chapter and verse that makes the claim that Cain was the first to eat meat."

Actually, Firenze is correct that in Genesis 1 God did create all animals and man to be herbivorous (vegetarian).  And, I am not sure where Vic got his information about Cain.   Prior to the Flood, man and animal coexisted in peace, neither harming the other.   Although God had set a precedence that man's clothing would be made from the skin of animals -- man did not eat animals at that  time.

We read in Genesis 9:1-4, "And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. The fear of you and the terror of you will be on every beast of the earth and on every bird of the sky; with everything that creeps on the ground, and all the fish of the sea, into your hand they are givenEvery moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant. Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.' "

So, after the Flood God decreed that man, and many animals, would eat meat, fish, and fowl.   Until then, they ate only green plants.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

This is very interesting, Bill.  Why does God keep changing his mind about what we can, and cannot eat?

Hi Crusty,

That is a good observation.  However, God did not change His mind; He just adjusted His plan to accommodate man's failure.   Of  course, this was in His plan all along -- for, being omniscient, He knew that Adam would fall into sin by disobeying.  And, still within  His plan -- He knew that He would send Jesus Christ to earth as God Incarnate -- to offer all mankind eternal life, eternal salvation.

He is a much better coach than even Nick Sabin -- for His game plan is perfect.  His game plan allows all men,  who will, to be  saved and have eternal life in Christ.

So, He started man off eating the green plants of earth; like you and I were started on Pablum or mom's milk.  Then, mankind  graduated to eating meat -- just like you and I did when we began to mature.   See how smart our God is -- He had His plan for us all  laid out before He created us.

And, a major part of that plan is that He gave you and me "free will" -- the freedom for each of us to choose to follow Him or to deny  Him.

Another part of that plan is heaven and hell.  Of course, He first created hell for Satan and his demonic angels -- but, once again,  thinking ahead -- He made it large enough to accommodate the humans who were too dumb or too stubborn to follow Him.

Yes, my Friend, our God is an awesome God!  And, His plan for mankind is perfect -- even though you and I are far from being  perfect.   Crusty, my Friend, YOU really should give Him a try.   If you do, you WILL be eternally grateful.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Whether you think it was written 3K, 4K, 6K, whatever years ago, the Bible (which you may believe or not) said that God created man to be a vegetarian. As for Cain? I've never heard he was the first to eat meat, but I have read scholars who believed original sin led to man's eating meat. The fact that their clothing was made from animal skins was a reminder of their sin.

The point is: No one can say that God, as described in the Bible, created carnivores. He created man who became a carnivore just as he became a sinner.

LOL, Bill.  If God is omniscient and really interferes in our day-to-day lives, shouldn't he have developed a plan ahead of time that didn't require "adjustment"?  I'm no longer surprised at the convolutions you go through to make it all consistent.  The result, in terminology of the adolescents you so love to use:  Fail, Duh!   Have you given up pork and shellfish, yet?

As I've already stated, you need to give up worship of the Bible, and really find God.  Good luck with that.

Crust-0-matic, I’m curious. From whence sprang your first knowledge of God?

I think it would be of interest to the gallery here to hear your Pierre Cardin offering to insure your position on the fence:

1. To remain an accomplice to atheism for some cowardly reason.

2. Just-in-case the trumpet blows you can fall on its side giving unoi and/Co a parting glance.

wouldn't that be "its" side....  "it is side"  just doesn't work for me!

I've listened to a whole series of Robert Sapolsky.  Have you read Thomas Aquinas?

Bless you my son for staying the course with Sapolsky. Don't prevent yourself from any of his lectures. I find myself pouring over them again quite regularly while refining my notes.

Aquinas i'm quite familiar with  and I can reckon your agreeing with him on many points.

That in itself I don't think will answer my question. I don't think you just fell out of the sky in his lap.

If Thomas doesn't post on a local forum, he doesn't read it.
