Last night, the Sgt obtained a left distal humerus fracture (he broke his arm) after jumping off his bed and landing just right. Only so many times you can perform certain wrestling moves until your number comes up. The kid didn't even cry, "mom and dad, I think something's wrong" is all he said. We took him to St. Vincent's ER thinking we'd get a cast and go home and found out he needed surgery to fix this one. So he was admitted and had surgery at around 8:00 this morning and is doing great. He's handled the whole thing much better than his parents and I'm very proud of him.

I said I would not post on here until the &*$# was properly flushed from the forum, but I wanted to share this with you because I could use your positive thoughts and wishes as little man heals. I'm thankful for much including the fact that it wasn't more serious than a broken arm and that it was his left arm and he is a "righty". I'm thankful for the absolutely awesome staff at St. Vincent's ER (the physician was gracious enough to honor my request and call the Sgt's pediatrician to get his input); the surgical department; and his wonderful and caring orthopedic pediatric surgeon who patiently answered all of my questions. A great team indeed put my Humpty Dumpty back together again.

I think we take our medical personnel for granted. They have thankless jobs sometimes (much like some teachers) and I, for one, thank all of you that do this for a living. It's been a while since my family's had a hospital experience and this one was positive. He'll stay tonight and be released in the AM when the surgeon is assured he's tolerating his pain meds, etc. I am also thankful for having a suite where I can stay with him comfortably and for good medical insurance.

Just took a break to post this and don't know when I'll check again, but thanks for all good thoughts.

WIP, it happens to all little boys!
i'm so glad the sergeant is doing well and proved to be such a little trouper. i know his mom is tough, but that weenie of a dad may have tainted his blood! hahahahaha! my thoughts are with you and your family and IF I CAN DO ANYTHING, I WILL BE GLAD!!! ALL YOU NEED DO IS ASK!!!!!
now, just exactly what move was it and i'll have our resident "professional" come teach the proper technique. that's right, for those of you that didn't know it, we do have a pro-wrestler in our midst! i think he has a book about it!
"How to wrestle with your kid and not break an arm... The Geddon Way!!!" hahahahahaha!
it was available at all ace/truvalue hardware stores, but we don't have one around here anymore and homedepot just won't carry it! i think you can order it online from Elora's Cave but i can't seem to find the link! hahahahaha!
WIP, Sorry to hear about the lil one breaking his arm and having to have surgery. I hope that he mends well, and that he feels better soon.

I'm also glad to hear that everyone from the medical staff treated you all well. Far too often, we hear of the negatives more than the positives. Smiler

Best wishes to you and your family Smiler

Thanks guys! Got him home at about 6:30 PM. I have to try and keep him still (arm elevated) for the next two days. The surgeon assured me that he should heal completely and that kids are amazing in their ability to bounce back to 100%.

I grew up with three brothers and saw them jump from furniture, trees and probably rooftops (knowing them) without any of them breaking bones, so the fracture surprised me. I'll keep letting the Sgt do boy stuff, we'll just have to proceed with caution from now on. Don't want to go through that again.
