MY SIL got a permit to carry a gun and he carries it everywhere, plasma center, bank, stores,he was even going to carry it into a church but my daughter wouldn't let him.I checked the Alabama gun laws on-line and apparently this is legal. My husband thinks he's breaking some sort of laws, anyone care to shed a little light on this situation?
I've recently obtained a new, more positive outlook on life. Things are not always as they seem nor as bad as we think they are. Thank you Lord for opening my eyes!

I am a year long member of NRA. I joined for obivious reasons. I assumed I would get information about guns and shooting stuff. Instead I get mail begs about every other week wanting money for PAc's or legislative action and so forth. I have nothinng against NRA. I feel like they are not much difference than AARP. I refused to renew aarp so I don;t fet them anymore. NRA is tiring and boring.
CARRYING
It is unlawful to carry a concealed pistol, firearm, or
airgun without a permit. It is unlawful for a person to
carry a pistol about his person on premises not his own or
under his control. It is unlawful to carry a rifle or shotgun
walking cane.
No person shall carry a pistol in any vehicle or
concealed on or about his person, except on his land,
in his own home or fixed place of business, without a
license. Exempt from this prohibition are law enforcement
officers, common carriers, and persons carrying unloaded
handguns in a secure wrapper from a place of purchase to
one’s home or business, or to or from a place of repair, or
in moving from one home or business to another.
The sheriff of a county may, upon the application
of any person residing in that county, issue a qualified
or unlimited license to carry a handgun in a vehicle or
concealed on or about one’s person for not more than one
year if the applicant:
• is 21 years of age.
• has good reason to fear injury to his person or
property.
• has any other proper reason for carrying a handgun.
• "is a suitable person" to be so licensed.
CAUTION: Firearm laws are subject to frequent change and court interpretation. This summary is not intended as legal advice or
restatement of law. This summary does not include federal or local laws, ordinances or regulations. For any particular situation, a
licensed local attorney must be consulted for an accurate interpretation. YOU MUST ABIDE WITH ALL LAWS: STATE, FEDERAL
AND LOCAL.
This may be reproduced. It may not be reproduced for commercial purposes.
The sheriff may revoke a license upon proof that the
license holder is "not a proper person to be licensed."
The fee for a license varies, depending on the county.
A license to conceal carry firearms does not authorize
any person to carry a concealed firearm into, but not
limited to, the following places:
• any airport, courthouse or criminal justice building;
• any public gatherings such as sporting events,
political events, parades, etc.
Alabama sheriffs may place other restrictions on
permits issued in their county including prohibiting
carrying where alcohol is served or consumed. Please be
aware of any added restrictions on your permit, as these
restrictions on the permit you were issued would be in
effect in all other Alabama counties.
A person who is not a resident of Alabama and who
is licensed to carry a handgun in any state whose laws
recognize and give effect in that state to a license issued
under the laws of Alabama shall be authorized to carry
a handgun in Alabama. Such a person shall carry the
handgun in compliance with the laws of Alabama.

That's incorrect. There are a few places you can't carry a gun under any circumstances, such as banks. But you can carry open in AL even without a permit. You don't see it much, but you can legally walk the streets with an openly carried pistol. Of course since that brings a lot of unwanted attention, most sensible folks will get a permit to carry concealed.

Ditto! You can get out of jail, but you can't get out of the cemetary.

Re: places one 'can't' carry: It's all a matter of proper concealment techniques. It used to drive my EX nuts that I would carry in church. She always said 'God will protect us'. Uh-huh......

It's okay, guys!

Actually...it's about PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. As a former LEO I know for a FACT that the police CANNOT and are under NO OBLIGATION to protect any one individual. THEREFORE...it falls upon ME to protect MYSELF and MY FAMILY from low-lifes and oxygen thieves intent upon doing me or them harm.

I don't have a holster mounted on my recliner, but, I won't answer my door without a holstered pistol, you read all the time about the latest home invasion techniques, they knock and force their way in as soon as you open. Beware, it's a crazy world out there.

I used to carry all the time and NEVER did any drugs. Carrying never made me feel like a "big shot" either. The pistol was concealed. I liked to think of it as my insurance card. If I needed it, all I had to do was take it out, but it was always on me. You can't look at someone and tell if they have insurance or not, unless they're advertising. Are you picking up what I'm laying down?
Someone pulled a gun on me once. I didn't get shot. That was before I started carrying. I didn't get shot because the guy who pulled the gun was within my reach. Had he not been, I'm sure the situation would have been different. My point is this; the good guy DOES win sometimes. If a thug wants to shoot you, regardless of whether you cooperate and give him your money, he's going to shoot you. If a thug wants to shoot you, is within arm's reach, and hesitates, you've got a good chance of living. There are ways. Educate yourselves. Of course, being within reach is the operative here.
