I went to Aldi's one time, I don't remember buying any thing though.

I wish every grocery store had the quarter things on their carts. I can not stand to see shopping carts all of the parking lot at the grocery store. There was a store like Aldi's in Georgia that I shopped at that had the quarter-carts. Homeless guys wouldn't ask you for money, they'd just ask you if they could put your cart away. Win-win!
Another reason to shop at Publix: if you buy a cart full of stuff, the bag boy will almost BEG you to let them help you out with your groceries! That cuts down on carts in the lot dramatically.
Holloway's in Decatur treats their shopping carts like gold! The 2 times I have been there, the bag boy took all my bags out of the cart and carried them all to my car. There were at least 10 bags!

You don't even wanna go there!!!!
It's true-men get PMS! Call it what you want but they all get pissy once a month!
Digressing again! I did a 3 week tour of Turkey on which were several men in their 60's and up! They were pissy all the time - every 30 minutes! The tea which we were offered at the designated stops was good though - and then we had to stop again, and again, and again!
Earthmomma, your disgresses are so entertaining, you just digress anytime you want to.

If you want to see some ludicrously overpriced gorceries, go to Whole Foods in Birmingham on Highway 280. They do a lot of business with folks who either have plenty of money or little sense. I appreciate that some "organic" foods are superior, but when they price them 100 to 150 percent or more higher than conventional products, they have priced them beyond my economic tolerance.
The prices at Whole Foods largely depend on the product. for your essentials they are actually around the same price if not cheaper. Their milk was on par with Aldi's price this summer for instance. The opinion that they are always overpriced is the main reason they run shopping classes (the lessons apply to grocery shopping in general, not just to get you to shop there more) and often show the price of their competitors in the store now to explain the differences and why its more or less.
Anyone know if Wal-Mart will honor Aldi's prices?

I'm sure they will on all the Aldi brand stuff they carry.

hey you all, i am new to this area, could anyone tell me how to get to aldi's from killen?
i can always afford to save some money on groceries. lol
mommaangel25...Aldi's is directly across from Best Guy on Cox Creek Parkway
on the corner of Cox Creek and Mall Drive
Typical directions from a woman . Incorrect name for a store, and Aldi's is directly across from "Best Guy" only if you are cross-eyed. This is why men don't ask directions (from women, at least).
The correct (simple) directions are:
From Killen, take Highway 72 to Florence.
At Cox Creek Parkway, hang a right.
Go just past the mall to Mall Road, hang a left, and Aldi's is immediately on your right.

LOL - which is none. I'll just stick to Great Value and Sam's Choice. BTW, Sam's brand salsa is kickin'.
I doubt Walmart will honor their prices. Walmart's stuff is from China. LMAO
I went to Aldi's a little earlier than i expected - sorry if I missed anybody who was watching for me! I saw 2 gray haired women and one 3 year old whose crazy mother was letting her try to fly out of the front of the cart. My hair might be gray but due to the influence of an excellent hairdresser I will never know! I tried to "sell" my cart to a guy probably in his 40's who said he did not need a cart but would give me a quarter and pocket the one he received when he put my cart back. If they had had my smoked almonds it would have been a great day in the "Aldihood". BTW, I thanked the guy for being a neat person! Gourmet Christmas goodies at Big Lots! I do not cross the Jordan for nothing!
Love Aldi;s! They have the best produce, this summer the watermelons were divine and in the winter the oranges are so very good. Also their nuts (sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't)are fresh and good. I have gotten numerous items there.

You didn't beat him over the head with an umbrella like Ruth Buzzie, did you Earthmomma? That man thought I was trying to steal his cart. lol
That place must be bigger than it looks from the outside. I have never been inside. Do you have to sack everything yourself or do they do it?
There are freezers for frozen food some coolers for things to keep cool but for the most part no shelves like in a traditional store. Most of the items are stacked on the floor area. It's a lot like Sam's on checkout in that you bag it you pay for the bag unless you bring one. The products may be name brand somewhere but I doubt you would know it living here that they were or are.
For years I had a VW Rabbit that died like it was pregnant( or I was- LOL). My motto was have jumper cables -will flirt! i haven't lost my touch!
LOL Wink for a jump! I've gotten a date or two myself over a pair of jumper cables.
Directions? I once read men use distance (blocks/miles). Women use markers (Bust Buy).
(Bust Buy) is how I got the Rabbit jumped off! lol

CrustyTeen and I went to Aldi's today. When we got in the parking lot, I told her to offer someone to take their cart back for them. She didn't think that was funny.
I was surprised that I didn't see one Aldi brand. We browsed the store, but both felt claustrophobic almost immediately and had to get out. I felt like I was being herded like cattle to the stock yard. I thought at first they weren't going to let us out without buying anything. But we waded upstream and went out the "in". I only found one item that I could compare prices on, and it was slightly lower.
Narrow aisles, crowded, 70's colors, low ceilings and leaves on the floor. I'd rather go to Sam's on a Friday night.

I know the feeling. Like I said, I ain't never seed people move so fast.
I went to Aldi today. Here's what i bought...
2 Gallons of milk
2 1/2 lbs hamburger
8 big boneless center cut porkchops
CranGrape juice
Apple juice
2 dozen eggs
Garlic Texas Toast
2 lb bag of GOOD frozen sausage patties
2 boxes of GOOD frozen fish fillets
2 lb bag of shredded sharp cheddar
salt
onion powder
2 boxes kraft deluxe mac and cheese
hamburger and hotdog buns
Italian sausages
Can't remember what else but I only spent 50 bucks and change! Try getting all that at WalMart for fifty bucks! There are some things I am a brand name snob on, but everything I've tried with the exception of their brownie mix has been as good as name brand.

I don't go that often, but when I do, I stock up and still rarely spend over $50-$60.
Yes, Wal-Mart will honor Aldi's sale prices.
I never grocery shop at Wal-Mart because it is too big...The bread on one end of the store, the milk on another...too much waling
Yesterday after I went to Aldi, I did run by WalMart to pick up a few other things. You want to talk about rude people and being herded around? What IS it with people around the holidays? They get so nasty. Nobody will let you by, people bumping thier carts into you because they go against the cart traffic, leaving their carts in the middle of the ailse, rushing to the checkouts and cutting other people off. This was the Florence WalMart, of course. You know, the one where you have to "dress" to shop? If you wear sweats, best make sure they are color co-ordinated and you've got your make-up on. Otherwise, you can go slum it at MS. J/K, I'd rather shop there but I just happened to be in Florence at Aldi anyway.
quote:You know, the one where you have to "dress" to shop?
You owe me a new keyboard because I just spewed coffee all over mine laughing at this statement. Dress to shop? I'd hate to see what casual day is like in most WalMart shoppers' worlds.
Several of you can't seem to post on any thread without getting your own, (over and over), same petty stuff. Who cares if Monet is or is not this or that. What difference does it make. She and several others of you are ging to say the same thing here in food talk, miscellaneous, feedback and any other thread you post on. Please at least change your attitude and not post ir over and over in everything you comment on. Stick to the subject and remember your liitle endings say a lot about you.
We were all doing a comparison/contrast of Aldi's to WalMart, Sam's, Foodland, and others. What the hell are you talking about Too old?
OK, you don't like Aldi's. I happen to not like a cerain Piggly-Wiggly because of their service and attitude but i am not going to post it every other day forever. Some Foodland stores are so dirty, i refuse to go there but that is my opinion. This retaurant has lousy service and terible food, yet you may have gone there and received great service and thought the food was wonderful. Does that mike both of us wrong? All i am saying is that each of us cannot always be right but at least we can be honest and respect each others right to say how we feel.

I have seen it and it ain't pretty. And Too Old to Care, I still don't know why in the world you are having a hissy about this thread. Lots of folks didn't even know about Aldi and were happy to hear about it. Go back to bed, roll off the other side, and see if that helps your attitude today. Jeesh.

Geesh! Who peed in your Cheerios?
Relax, EG. I turned my keyboard upside down at an angle and dumped about half a cup of crumbs out Thursday. (per online instructions). I think they are virtually indestuctible. Keyboards and crumbs! LOL!
..................Salty,, I went there yesterday to check it out after reading this thread. I even bought one of their canvas bags for the next time I go. I don't know why I did that!! I seldom drive to Florence, LOL!!!!!quote:Originally posted by SaltyDog:quote:Originally posted by Eye-gor:quote:You know, the one where you have to "dress" to shop?

It must be the Christmas spirit starting early
Gail, I must have been possessed Saturday, lol,,,but I did buy some good stuff and had fun. I have never seen a store with bedspreads next to the cooler and boots with the candy and such. It was a hoot!!
boots??...they have boots? I missed that!
gotta have shoes.
gotta have shoes.
Yep, I don't know how many, maybe just a few pair, but they were kind of suede looking tan. I tell you things were randomly placed throughout the store that gave it sort of a flea market feel. I did get some good things and went to Deal's after that. It really made the hubby's day, touring instead of napping, lol. I like Deal's
