WAFF has the most up-to-the-minute info regarding closings on their website.

Ha! Good one David! Yes it is a bit lame to say "heart of the valley". On the note of school closings - I think it is sick that they wait til 11:30 (or later) when the storms will be right on top of us to dismiss school! Where are the kids safer? In school or in a high profile school bus on wet roads in severe weather? That is just insane. I think they should allow parents to pick up children immediately and keep the rest safe at school until the severe weather threat has passed, not put them on a bus! Anyone else? Am I off base here?
Good point, like in Enterprise. I don't know if there are any lawsuits, but I know folks were calling for some firings and resignations. I think my daughter's school is a lot sturdier than my patio home! I'd almost rather just go to the school and stay there with her!quote:Originally posted by David L.:
I don't know, in my day, we were never dismissed for school for reasons of "impending weather." The only time we got out was for snow. I think it would be wiser if schools prepared their students for bad weather and took them to a safe place. Of course, if something happens and schools are not let out, you have parents sueing you so what do you do?

Yeah I know. In the last 20 years how many times has a school had been demolished in a storm and any kids killed. Any life is tragic to lose but kids are safer at school. Who we gonna blame if a school bus has a wreck because of wet roads or high winds and a kid is hurt badly. Remember these buses will be running when the bad weather is right on top of us. I guess I can sue the school if a tornado hits and destroys our home and hurts my child and the school is still standing. Tragic things happen that we have no control over, thats life. How many people wanted that helicopter crash to happen in Barton or wanted a husband to kill his wife over depression. Things happen that we are not supposed to understand why they happen, thats the way life is.

If your over 25 I guess your parents didnt love you or didn't care about your safety cause thats not how it used to be. Is that the reason people are the way they are today, I think not. That was your choice to go pickup your child, they shouldn't make it mandatory for everyone to do that, they should have safety systems in place to protect children like Florence city probably does. I'd like to know how many children have been hurt in this area from storms while they were in school,0. Thats your choice to go pickup your child.
huh? What? I am over 25 and my parents NEVER came and picked us up due to weather. I can hardly remember school ever letting out unless the roads were closing. If we were there then we stayed there unless snow was actually starting to stick and accumulate. If there was a threat of a tornado we all went into the hallways. That is just the way it was.quote:Originally posted by agree2disagee:

A2D, why must you be so vague? And then when people ask you to further explain yourself so that your post makes sense why must you be so hateful? AND THEN when someone replies to what you said with their opinion to enter into a discussion with you, why must you trounce that and instead tell them something vile like to sit on a corncob? What is that about? I don't know what your deal is, and I probably don't want to or couldn't pronounce it - but regardless - it is very difficult to have an adult conversation with you.quote:Originally posted by agree2disagee:
In my twelve years of school and college we never was let out, never, for storms. I guess they did that back in the 40's and 50's when you was in school, huh. That my feeling and if you cant handle it I'll send you a corn cob and you can sit on it. Its plain stupid to let kids out.
