Do you want a cheerleader for America with his morals and character?

Clinton Says Husband Would Be Ambassador

Apr 21, 6:26 PM (ET)

By MIKE GLOVER

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) - Hillary Rodham Clinton said Saturday that if she is elected president, she would make her husband a roaming ambassador to the world, using his skills to repair the nation's tattered image abroad.

"I can't think of a better cheerleader for America than Bill Clinton, can you?" the Democratic senator from New York asked a crowd jammed into a junior high school gymnasium. "He has said he would do anything I asked him to do. I would put him to work."

Clinton spoke at a town hall-style meeting Saturday where she took questions from about 200 people. When asked what role the former president would play in her administration, she left no doubt it would be an important one.

"I'm very lucky that my husband has been so experienced in all of these areas," said Clinton, who pointed to the diplomatic assignments her husband has carried out since leaving office, such as raising money for tsunami victims.

Although former president Clinton was impeached after an affair with a White House intern, he remains a very popular figure in much of the world and is considered an effective diplomat. He remained in office after the Senate failed to convict him.

That's precisely what America needs in the wake of a war in Iraq that's left America isolated and hated throughout much of the world, Hillary Clinton said.

"I believe in using former presidents, particularly what my husband has done, to really get people around the world feeling better about our country," she said. "We're going to need that. Right now they're rooting against us and they need to root for us."

The former president can also be a political asset to his wife's campaign. While his image with the electorate is mixed, he remains immensely popular among Democrats.

When it was announced last year that he would be the main speaker at the Iowa Democratic Party's largest annual fundraiser, the event sold out overnight.

On Saturday, Hillary Clinton chatted with activists in Marshalltown and mingled at a coffee shop in Newton before raising money for Rep. Leonard Boswell.

Throughout the day, Clinton toughened her rhetoric by offering sharply populist themes.

"Rich people didn't make American great," Clinton said. "It was the middle class who made this country great."

She denounced the Bush administration, which she said has left the government incompetent. "They have shown contempt for our government," Clinton said. "We've got to get back to having qualified people, not cronies, serving in the government of the United States."

She said Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney have done lasting damage. "I don't think we know all the damage that this president and vice president have done," Clinton said.

She was scheduled to visit Dubuque on Sunday.

In Marshalltown, she was pressed on immigration issues in a city where a raid at a local meatpacking plant led to the detention of nearly 100 workers. Clinton called for more assistance for cities with significant numbers of undocumented workers.

"You've got to have more help for communities when you have a lot of undocumented workers because they have costs associated with that and they don't set immigration policy," Clinton said.

She also said any immigration reform must be tougher on businesses that hire illegal immigrants.

She said nothing will affect the issue until leaders of countries, such as Mexico, improve the economic lives for millions living in poverty.

Clinton also said she would raise taxes for the wealthy, who she said "aren't paying their fair share." She also praised the economic policies of her husband that brought budget surpluses.

"We need to get back to fiscal responsibility," she said.

A vote for Hillary is a vote for socialism.
"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming... Wow, What a ride!!"

Even "O'Really" says she can easily be elected if the republicans nominate a loser. We are presently ruled by a man who lost the popular vote in his first term, and only won by 1% in the last election. He only has the support of 31% of the electorate and even his father says we may be experiencing "bush fatigue". Anything can happen in the next election. Her husband enjoyed a higher approval rating during his impeachment than bush has over the vast majority of his 2 terms. Your logic is purely partisan.
Surely you don't believe everything O'Reilly says! I've listened to him a time or two, but never believe everything you hear or read!
I do think that there is a vast majority of Americans that aren't going to vote for Hillary simply because of what a pompass, unmoral, cheating, liar her husband is. Sure, she my get a sympathy vote or two, but those will be few and far between! Wink
O'Really is not the only talking head/republican who offers this assessment of the 08 election. Look, you are clearly guessing here based on your own political bias. Thats fine, it does not reflect anything concrete, scientific, or realistic even. Hillary has not even won the nomination at this point. Again if the republicans nominate a loser anything can happen. Good luck to you. Wink
She is not my first choice for a Democratic nominee, but if she is nominated , I will vote for her. A presidency under Hillary would be so far superior to what we have had in the last 6 years that even you grinda will be amazed. (actually for that matter, a presidency under virtually ANYBODY would be better than this idiot)
Bill Clinton is well respected throughout the world, and would make an excellent "good will ambasador" Maybe he could bring back some respect to this country that Idiot has squandered.
Excelman, do you actually think Bill Clinton would make a good ambasador for this country? Do people not remember what all he's done? Where is this country coming too when people respect a man that has lied, cheated on his wife?
Where is the common decency, morals, values in this man? You can't tell me that most christians will allow this? I don't think so!
I have no respect for a woman that will stay with a man of his calibur, whether she is Democrat or Republican!

Love is blind!!! Big Grin

Seriously... think of basic human nature, WHY would she leave him??? He is an ex-president, and he is her husband, and beyond what he did with Monica, he also did some good things for our country...

I would take Clinton back in a New York second over GWB!!!! Heck, I would take ANY of them above GWB!!!

Unless we ARE talking morals here... then Rudy is definitely out, too much cheating, too many wives.... no matter what his political stance is, no matter how good he is... lets just judge him on his morals!!!

And UMMMMMM... GWB and Cheny has ZERO morals when they can send our people over to another continent to fight for THEIR freedoms that they don't even WANT anyway!! ... Guess they don't even lose any sleep at night when one of our own dies over there either... UGH!!!!

excelman... you said it best!!!

Hmmmmmm, now you made me start wondering... All these Bushlettes want to run around telling us that we HAVE to back him because he is President... If Hillary gets elected, do we now have THAT opportunity to do the same??? Big Grin

I just have one more thing to say here, then I will hush...

I would MUCH MUCH prefer to have someone in the White House that cannot keep his zipper up, than someone who send our people off to be killed for NO REASON!!! Or at least no more reasons... he stopped giving reasons a while back when people started telling him we were LOSING...

Losing??? How can we win??? It is NOT our war, it is NOT our fight... there is no winning for us, losing is all we can do..

Yes, I do actually think Bill would be a great ambasador for this country. Most of the rest of the world is kinda amused at the outrage of some of the self-righteous hypocrits who tried to take him out. They , and you, say of him that he lacks morals, but I say to all of you that his sexual misconduct is not nearly as morally lacking as what we have seen in virtually all of the Bush administration.
I don't know where you people get your moral compas, but you obviously do not get it from the Bible.
For example of what I am talking about, by comparison , there is very little in schripture about sexual sin compared to how to treat other people. Do you really think that having an extramateral sexual affair even compares to the barage of lies from Bush/Cheney that have cost us , to date, 3300 American lives, and about a TRILLION DOLLARS, and thousands of seriously wounded young men ?
My moral compas is based on the teachings of the Bible, and I can assure you Clinton is far more moral than Bush.
Bush's daddy is just as morally corrupt , and if it was not for the ananimity that I like, I would tell you about what that man did to some of my family concerning an MIA.
Yes, Clinton is superior morally and mentally to this bunch. I believe he could help restore respect for this country in the rest of the world. Bush has destroyed it. Even the Brits hate us.
I laugh everytime I see some of the mean-spirited Bush haters that think that the Clintons had no part in what the state of the US is in today! Here are some of the reasons:
1) Their actions and inactions while in office led to the weakening of our national security

(2) Their actions and inactions while in office led to numerous corporate scandals and board-room shenanigans

(3) Their actions and inactions while in office led the nation into a recession before they left office

(4) Their actions and inactions while in office led to our nation being desgraced all over the tabloid newspapers and magazines all over the world

(5) Their actions and inactions while in office led to a terrorist build-up of vital areas of the middle-east

(6) Their actions and inactions while in office led to the suspicious deaths of countless associates and former friends

And the most important reason we should be discussing the state of the world and our nation today is:

(7) They're running for the White House again.

I can's speak for excelman, But GW thinks enough of Slick Willy to allow him to meet with foreign leaders without complaining about him traveling with GHW Bush to trouble spots. Bill Clinton is well respected, and he is active in efforts to reduce the spread of HIV in Africa. He has been part of a delegation to the Tsunami devastated regions.

I also think that publishing a supper tight close up of her face says more about the morality of the publisher than it could ever say about an experienced woman.
Well, there you go. . .that's what's wrong with this country today. Throw out all the morals and values of people and this is what you have left! Does anyone not think what he's done is wrong? Surely I'm not the only one! It seems that this kind of stuff is so accepted today and that is such a shame.

How can anyone even respect Hillary? She chooses to stay with someone that was unfaithful and the whole world knows about it? Don't give me that "Stand by your man crap"! That says alot of her character if she's politically greedy enough to keep him thinking he's her meal ticket to the White House! And it will say what kind of America we will be, if enough people even vote for her!

I have faith, she won't get the nominated nor will she be calling the white house home!!!! Wink

First off, I do NOT hate Bush, I just lost all respect for him when he sent us to a War that had NOTHING to do with 9/11, and then told many lies as to WHY we were there, all being different... His credibility with the American public plunged to the lowest in history, so the rest of your "POINTS" are just null and void, because their ACTIONS in the white house did NOT do all you copied/pasted that it did, and their ACTIONS in the white house did not kill our guys/gals in the military, ... and their ACTIONS in the white house scandal was between "HUSBAND AND WIFE".. and should NOT have been made public ...

Does any person on this site want YOUR marriage picked apart in every paper, television show and news show in the Nation... I thought not!!

I am all for morals and values, IF they were there, but at my age, I have seen so many of our leaders go totally against morals, values AND character....it is a shame really that scandals have to happen while they are leaders...

Remember Nixon??? I liked him too, and was stunned that he would resort to that behavior...

And now Bush and Cheney's scandalous behavior by getting our backsides on a burner with another country that we have NO business being involved with, much less at war with...

I adore our Troops, that is why I think this is so wrong, it is heartbreaking to hear of each and every one of them that gets added to the "DEATH" list .... when they should have been at home in the loving comfort of their families...

Or IF they had to be at war, then WHY and WHEN did we forget there is a man out there named Bin Ladin who has 'sleeper cells' all over the United States of America????

What is immoral about forgiving a sin?
How can you attach the immoral act of one person to another?
Does your definition of morality require that I do what you would do in every situation?
Do you define LYING to congress, the United Nations and the American people to justify the mass murder of aggression as MORAL?
Can you actually make a case comparing the morality of seeking reconciliation to the morality of John McCain campaigning for a continuing occupation of Iraq?
By the hair of my chin I am sick to death with negative comparisons.
Let's talk about Bill Richardson. Years of experience in Foreign Affairs. Years of experience as the Governor of a Border State. Years of education and experience in public service. A gentle and genteel persona. A backbone of cast iron, a will of steel, and an overwhelming desire to serve.

Barak Obama years of in the trenches battling for the rights of others. A world view that includes intimate knowledge of disparate cultures. A mind like a steel trap, and a sense of humor that allows him to see himself as others see him. Warmth radiates from him even under stress.

Joe Biden, troubled by fund raising woes, has the most workable of all present proposals for an end of the conflict in Iraq. A proposal that would serve American, European, Asian and Mid Eastern interests. His tax a budget positions have been firmly in favor of empowering the middle class. His positions on subsidies for the poor and the corporations have always taken the middle ground. Adequate to protect and serve the needs of the country, but not offering luxury to the recipients. He is not by nature an attacker. His successes have all be the result of building consensus for progress. His personal life has not been in question, and he has nothing major to apologize for and a Lot that is major to take pride in.

And, if you are not planning to vote in the Democratic Presidential primary, talk about your party's candidates, not mine.

There are two major races underway. And most of the talk is about the Democrats. I suspect that's because even the Republican Stalwarts expect to loose.
And, you can bet on anything. Here are the odds posted by the Costa Rican online gambling site, "Wager Web"
Who will be President of the United States?
Hillary Clinton +$100 1 to 1 ** Risk $100 to win $100
Barack Obama +$450 9 to 2 ** Risk $100 to win $450
John McCain +$450 9 to 2 ** Risk $100 to win $450
Rudolph Giuliani +$450 9 to 2 ** Risk $100 to win $450
John Edwards +$700 7 to 1 ** Risk $100 to win $700
Mitt Romney +$1200 12 to 1 ** Risk $100 to win $1200
Al Gore +$1250 25 to 2 ** Risk $100 to win $1250
Condoleezza Rice +$2500 25 to 1 ** Risk $100 to win $2500
Bill Richardson +$2700 27 to 1 ** Risk $100 to win $2700
Evan Bayh +$3300 33 to 1 ** Risk $100 to win $3300
John Kerry +$4000 40 to 1 ** Risk $100 to win $4000
Chuck Hagel +$4000 40 to 1 ** Risk $100 to win $4000
Tom Vilsack +$4700 47 to 1 ** Risk $100 to win $4700
Joseph Biden +$5200 52 to 1 ** Risk $100 to win $5200

George Pataki +$6000 60 to 1 ** Risk $100 to win $6000
Jeb Bush +$6500 65 to 1 ** Risk $100 to win $6500
Colin Powell +$6600 66 to 1 ** Risk $100 to win $6600
Mark Warner +$6600 66 to 1 ** Risk $100 to win $6600
Tom Daschle +$8200 82 to 1 ** Risk $100 to win $8200
I am sick of the hysterical, self appointed, moral guardians, telling us what to think, when and how. I think many people are. Tend to your own religious life and I will tend to mine. Its not the presidents job. Of course we want the leader of our nation to be a good man. But I would still rather have someone not so perfect, than someone who spouts Calvinist religious dogma and is totally inept.

Grinda, what ED said plus G.W Bush thinks enough of Clinton to let him run around the world with G.H.W. Bush (his own daddy), as good will ambasadors helping people in these natural disastors. In fact they are very good friends.
Therefore, Hillary would not be the first to use Bill C. in that matter.
Bill has proven himself very capable of that roll, and I sincerly hope that whoever is elected president would consider him to try to help our nation in some capacity like that.
