If they have legs like the cop directing traffic at my favorite Florence City Elementary School, then,

HELL YEAH!!!!!!!! Big Grin
I don't mind running down speeders on foot...it's balancing the blue light on my head while making a siren sound that bothers me. Big Grin

Statistically, with as many miles as cops, cab drivers, delivery men and truckers spend on the road, they're gonna have crashes. The law of averages catches up with you after a while.

you on't have to drive 130 mph to every call

Ford Police Interceptors won't do 130. They are computer regulated to 124 mph, or less.

They have a bunch of young guys, but I'm not sure about them driving 130 mph to every call. If the officer was doing 130 mph this morning I can assure you he would have been injured. However, I saw a fire truck driving on the wrong side of Hwy 72 today from W.F. Gardiner to Woodmont Drive. There was very little traffic and I have no idea what it accomplished but I guess it looked cool.

I don't think they would mind you looking but I'm not sure about floboiuna.

Where have you been? Tuscumbia has had a bicycle patrol since 2001.
Having a bicycle and having a bicycle patrol are two different things Big Grin

I can assure you it was used back in the day, because I rode one of them. We didn't get paid for it, but we done it on our on time and because we enjoyed it. Two words, Killer Bees.

You would think with Chief Do No Wrong Logan he would have already solved the problem.

You guys wore bee outfits?
The tone of this post is trending toward the absurd, but on a serious note, sometimes police cars have to be wrecked. I am not saying that was the situation with this most recent incident, but if a fleeing suspect is endangering life and property, a shift commander may give the order to take him out. This might involve the PIT manuever or it might be a broadside collision but damage will result and it is part of law enforcement. Policemen are expected to do things with police cars that civilians will never understand.

If you want to know more, and you should, see if your local PD has a "ride along" program whereby you as a citizen/tax payer can gain some first hand insite into how your police officers approach protecting your citizens and your property.

i dont think that is the case with tuscumbia, they drive the cars a little to fast, even when they do not have a call, they are hiring younger guys that really do not care if they take care of their equipment. they need to seek some responsible adults to employ.

All the old guys are working somewhere that pays more. While I don't doubt the dedication of rookies, experience is expensive in more ways than monetarily.

In other words, 20 year veterans of law enforcement are not running over themselves to go to work for Tuscumbia. Get the pay scale up and maybe they will.

Sassy..I have a brother-in-law that has been an officer in Tuscumbia for at least 25 years! He has always stayed with the TPD & lives in Tuscumbia. Don't know if it's dedication or stupidity!! LoL! Big Grin

I only know of one person that has been at T-Town that long, and he was a reserve for around seven of those years. I know the answer to your question and so do alot of other people. However, I'll keep the answer to myself.

Perhaps he just enjoys the people who he works with there. Perhaps comfort is more important to him than money. He wouldn't be the only one. But the younger set of officers are looking for the end of the week check, not 25 years of employment.
The best way to handle this would be to send the younguns to driving school to teach them how to handle cars. Of course that will take money and they would have probably saved that much by the time the city gets the repair bills. Most PD cars I worked on and drove weren't limited on speed. But they were GM versions.

Yeah...but then there's that Motorola option. Wink

The Motorola option is dependent on there being another Motorola ahead of Mr. Badguy, and that Mr. Badguy will "respect the authority" of Motorola #2. Otherwise, you are back to the 124 mph option.
