I knew Dr. Moore very well when she was Deputy Superintendent in Florence. She was a great advocate for students. The blame for the mess in Huntsville goes directly to the school board, whose members arrogantly ignored all the warning signs of proration and other financial difficulties presented by the state and federal governments; e.g., unfunded mandates. Also, they somehow failed to recognize the flight to Madison City and Madison County schools.
I have two friends who teach in Huntsville: one at Grissom (supposedly the "Cadillac" school; the other at J. O. Johnson, which is a truly frightening place to be. Both of the schools, for totally different reasons, are expensive puppies. Both of my friends said that their elected school board members had the attitude that "We're Huntsville, our funding won't be cut," despite daily (and sometimes more than daily) warnings from Dr. Moore and the financial people that the hammer was about to drop. Unless the voters replace some or all of the school board members, the new Superintendent is doomed to failure before he or she is even on the job.
