A Franklin County man accused of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl on Christmas morning remains in jail after District Judge Paula McDowell set his bond at $75,000 Tuesday, officials said.

Arnulfo Lucas Renteria, 60, 31202 Franklin 724, Russellville, is charged with sexual abuse of a child under 12 years old, Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said Tuesday.

Oliver said Renteria was taken into custody just after 6 a.m. Christmas Day when deputies responded to a 911 call at the residence on Franklin 724, east of Russellville.

Investigators said Renteria is a family acquaintance who lives with the victim and her family.

One has to wonder whether sexual abuse is actually more common in Franklin County than elsewhere in the Shoals or whether Tom Smith, the stringer for that area, has simply decided to report on each and every case of sexual abuse in the county.

ANY sexual abuse is bad stuff, but when it involves abuse of children, it is especially disgusting.  Those convicted need to be transferred to the "Graystone Hotel" for a long, long time.

Parents should not just trust and take in "guests" or "boarders" or some "acquaintance" without a thorough background check.

Well from the name, I wouldn't think this family were long time residence of Franklin Co. and I'm just guessing, but I figure Tom Smith reports what is made available to him. So either Franklin Co has more than it's fair share of sexual abuse or the law enforcement in Franklin Co is doing a real good job of enforcement or possibly a good combination of both.

Some of those who violate immigration laws also violate other laws as well, and who they perpetrate these crimes against are the ones who fear law enforcement most, other illegals immigrants. Therefore sexual abuse, rape, assault and robbery are perpetrated at a higher rate against these individuals because they often go unreported due to fear since they know they are here illegaly.

Hispanics wanting a better life would in the long run be better off working to improve their own country rather than fleeing it's problems to find new and different problems here that are just as hard or harder to overcome, hopefully the education they're receiving will bring this unpleasant reality to them soon...

Nice little racist rant.
