Do you agree with the 5 states to inforce this law?

Anti-war items target of new laws in 5 states:

Incensed by the sale of anti-war T-shirts and other paraphernalia emblazoned with the names and pictures of America's military dead, some states are outlawing the commercial use of the fallen without the permission of their families.

I would have to give this some thought but my first reaction is that anti-war movement should be more sensitive to the soldiers who were killed and their families.

But there are probably families of those killed in Iraq that would have no objection to the shirts and photo's being used to end the war. I know I have read about families being angry about the deaths of a family member. If they can make people more aware and save lives then it would be a good cause. I would tend to be more supportive if the profits are going to the anti-war movement and not to personal profits, although the seller should be compensated for time and investment.

But I do have to disagree with something one of the people in the article said. Those who went to Iraq were definitely "Duped." It was a lie from the start and continues to be so today. It's all about the controlling the oil and the profits. I doubt many soldiers would have volunteered to fight, kill and be killed, maimed or traumatized for the profits of big oil and the likes of Cheney and Exxon Mobil
It's about Greed and Power, I agree, and I think it is our responsibility to speak out and use our constitutional duty, as well as our obligations to humanity to stop this atrocity.

I am not sure of the laws and whether a soldier's name or face once published in the press is Public Domain or not.

I do believe though that we ought to be doing things that educate and unite people rather then alienate them. I am not sure that doing something against a family's wish's concerning a deceased soldiers name and likeness is the best thing to do. Especially if it is done for personal profit. Even though I believe many pro war supporters make profits off dead soldiers.

I believe though that there are a number of fame's that would have no objection. Also publishing the number itself is also effective.

I object to the idea of the government always passing laws restricitng free speech but I do believe we ought to respect peoples personal feelings when it comes to family memembers who have been taken from them.
