!!!!!!!! I agree!!!!! Been lookin' for something to agree with you on and by gum, this is it!
But in agreeing that marijuana is "no more dangerous than alcohol," I am in no way endorsing the recreational use of alcohol. Both are mind-altering substances. Arsenic might be no more dangerous than strychnine, but I don't want either of those in my food or drink.

Why not ?
Recreation is a good thing.
But as to the use of cannabis as a medicine;
And BTW, something you , as a scholar may want to investigate:
in Hebrew the words used for one of the ingredients of Holy Anointing Oil (which was also burned in the Temple lamps) is " Kaneh Bosem" which many people believe became "cannaas" is mistranslated . Actual translation for this oil may actually be Cannabis.
The following youtube , the man seems a bit "different" , but if you have an open mind (and I know you do), his Biblical healing oil may be promising.
As to another reason to legalizing cannabis, consider the Hemp industry (like we used to have).
Hemp of course has very little THC , but is part of that same family as marijuana and therefore is excluded. However, as a cash crop it could be a real boon to small farmers, and since it's fiber content, it is estimated that 1 acre of hemp can produce as much fiber for paper as 4 acres of timber. Plus, it can be grown every year. Our Constitution is written on Hemp, and George Washington grew it on his farm. I have heard that at one meeting with foreign dignitaries, he left the meeting early so as not to "miss the hemp harvest at Mt Vernon" . (maybe he liked to smoke a little as well)
