Possible Interrogation Probe Dashes Hopes for Bipartisanship Under Obama
Some Republicans believe President Obama killed any chance for bipartisanship when he opened the possibility of prosecution and a congressional investigation of Bush-era lawyers who authorized "enhanced" interrogation techniques on terror suspects.

Mark your calendar: April 21, 2009. That's when the Era of Bipartisanship died.

That's what some Republicans suggested after President Obama opened the possibility of a congressional investigation and prosecution of Justice Department lawyers who authorized "enhanced" interrogation techniques on terror suspects during the Bush administration.

If the coffin needs a final nail, it will come if Democrats decide to fast-track Obama's legislative priorities through a budget maneuver known as "reconciliation."

Bi-partisanship was stabbed in the heart during the Nixon fiasco, and the Republicans have been looking for payback since.
It's death finally came in the 90's when after years and millions of dollars, it was discovered that Bill Clinton liked women, and had an extra-marital affair. His impeachment (IMHO) marked the true and final death of bi-partisanship.
Obama, and by extension the American people, who had great hopes that our country would once again become united as in the UNITED States, are watching their hopes fade as the Republican Party is becoming the "Party of NO ".
It would be really nice to see our government work together again, but my optimism is slowly fading .

bull clodton AND his wife hillary rodman were in more dirty dealings than America could handle. Thanks to many timely deaths and suicides and hillary's deft lawyer's touch at doctoring "gone again, here again" whitewater files, they managed to elude prison.

The ONLY bipartisanship in memory occurred after 9/11. In a glorious stretch of about 2 years, we were all, Americans. Not Conservatives or liberals, black or white, religious or non-religious; just Americans as it should be. United to deal with a War on Terror that had been put off for 8 years (the first enemy attack on our soil at the WTC in '93) too long. The era of bipartisanship ended in 2003 with the beginning of a new chance to grab power in the presidential campaign.

On this I will call "BULL#%^&"...Obama went into the WH, along with his sidekick Pelosi, with a plan to do everything they could to polarize this nation. As evidenced by his legalization of an abortion policy in overseas clinics, and his continued rhetoric to create class warfare.
They are doing everything in their power to nationalize banking and create more wealth for the unions, which at one time were on the decline. He preaches that businesses are bad, and wants to increase taxes on them.
His cap and trade policy would bring huge costs to EVERY consumer, not just those rich people you despise.
Despite the fact that 70% of the people in this country have expressed a desire to not legalize current illegal immigrants, Pelosi and her ilk are pursuing it at a rapid pace, in order to grow the Democratic coffers.
Obama has gone from one nation to next breaking protocols and making an azz of himself in front of many countries. He is rubbing shoulders with tyrants and despots and sitting idly by while listening to communist dictators badmouth the US....this is a representation of what the people of the US wanted?
Despite your love for this guy ,amongst many others of the kool-aid brigade on this forum, he is doing nothing to bring this nation to unity. The republicans might be the party of NO, but at the present time they are the only thing standing between him and his proclamation for kingdom. People like you better wake up and smell the roses before it is too late. Heck it might not even hurt you to listen to something other than those libtards on MSNBC and CNN once and awhile. Fox News is not the enemy here. Their viewership is growing at an incredible rate because people are finally beginning to see how the wool was pulled over their eyes by the other mainstream outlets.

I hesitate to even attempt to have a discussion with someone who can't spell, dosn't use proper capitalization, and in general dosn't have a proper perspective.
However, I do agree that after 9/11 there was a great outpouring of bi-partisanship. I myself was one. I supported Bush, and our war against the terrorist who had attacked us.
However, when Bush decided to pull most of our intelligence out of Afghanistan , and bomb a country that had no connection to the 9/11 attacks, and then tried for the next 7 years to justify that invasion and occupation, I found no reason to stand behind him. It would seem he just quit the real battle front and moved all our resources to Iraq. Then , his VP and his cronies committed high treason by outing a CIA agent because her husband told the truth about yellow cake and the Saddam connection.
Worse by far than loosing my support, by invading Iraq, Bush lost the support of most of our allies in the rest of the world who so faithfully stood by us after 9/11 .
For me, not supporting Bush was less an act of being non-partisan, but it was an act of being a true patriot. The Republican party made the decision to support everything Bush wanted to do, and like lemmings in lockstep, they now have gone over the cliff.

That is done purposefully, goofy. As far as "proper perspective," I probably have a better perspective than you, based on your job history. Smiler
Excelman,
“Then , his VP and his cronies committed high treason by outing a CIA agent because her husband told the truth about yellow cake and the Saddam connection.”

Are you completely out of the loop? The Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage revealed Valerie Plame's identity. He admitted it. Novak admitted it. The prosecutor, Patrick Fitzgerald, admitted it. The prosecutor determined Plame’s position was not subject to the law, nor was it a clandestine position.

You’ve made a statement for which there is no proof. The left has repeated the lie again and again, however that doesn’t make it so. It just makes then resemble Goebbels.

Meanwhile, Obama destroyed the effectiveness and morale of the clandestine arm of the CIA.
"Ronald Reagan, who from the perspective of a hundred years will be seen as the last of the California hippies, a man who told us that if we just let the markets run wild and the Magic Bus of juggernaut capitalism go barrel-assing down the road with its freak flag flying all would be groovy and out of sight."

He prefers that "to the helter skelter criminality of Cheney and Bush. But to call either administration 'conservative' in its blithe overconfidence is to hold up a picture of your brain on drugs."

Republicans, says, Keizer should have been on top of things; should have seen the problem; should have seen we were walking down a dark and nasty path: "...of all people, conservatives ought to have been the first to grasp the dangers of unregulated markets. If big government is susceptible to the abuses of 'sinful' human beings, how much more susceptible is a corporate system that is bigger than any government? The right wing of the party ought to have seen this better than the center, and the religious right ought to have seen it best of all. That they failed to see it bespeaks a spiritual bankruptcy beside which the financial plight of an auto industry is as a gnat unto a camel."

'''''"Ask someone on the street or in the blogosphere to describe what makes the party's current predicament so ironic, and you might hear something like this: The Republican Party was supposed to stand for small government and fiscal restraint, and instead it has given us big government and the virtual socialization of large segments of our economy."

With that in mind, the irony of the moronic tea baggers becomes even more of a national joke, making the poor, deluded fools waving signs at the behest of their largely unknown wingnut sponsors and FAUX News, appear to be as dumb as a stump.'''''

I think I'll pass on this one. Just think he might be a little BDS and FDS (Fox Derangement Syndrome). A left wing nut job telling the right what it did wrong. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Yeah sometimes it's best to let idiocy be recognized for what it is. Most of his earth-shaking statements need no help in proving that point. Big Grin
“Of course, the lack of bipartisanship isn’t limited to Capitol Hill. Obama has taken gratuitous swipes at the Republicans who recently decamped Washington, blaming President Bush for everything from the economy and the war to the lack of sufficient puppies and rainbows. And who could forget the Rush Limbaugh flap — in which Obama’s top advisers, including chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, orchestrated a public relations campaign meant to undermine the Republican National Committee chairman, Michael Steele, by framing talk-radio personality Limbaugh as the real head of the Republican Party.

For now, Obama’s back-pedal on the bipartisanship promise just makes him look insincere. But the real consequences of the mistake will be felt soon enough. As Presidents Bush and Clinton could tell him, congressional majorities do change — and at some point, Obama will need Republicans on his side. He’d be smart to spend his second 100 days making up for the serious snubs of his first.” -Sarah Palin.
I posted this quote because 1.It will infuriate the libs. And 2.It`s true. Razzer
There will never be true bi-partisanship. Each year politicians will do what that have to do to gain power and respect at any cost. The easiest way to to go against any and everything the other part suggest. When one does that they look strong in the eyes of those that voted them into office.

Bi-partisanship helps the entire country. But who was the last politician that put country first, and worried about votes second?

But hey the entire country does not elect each Congressman as a whole, different areas to. So they will continue to get reelected off the pork projects and the number of times they go against the other party.

Actually, it probably IS Bush's fault. He just about destroyed the Republican Party and the Nation as well.
Possibly, if Bush hadn't been such a terrible president and actually tried to govern from the center, the Democratic takeover would not have happened.

“No-Brainer” Renditions

In his book Against All Enemies: Inside America’s War on Terror,” Richard Clarke, former Clinton “counter-terrorism” official, recalls the objections of a White House lawyer to a proposed rendition because it broke international laws. Then-Vice President Al Gore laughed at the objection and said, “That’s a no-brainer. Of course it’s a violation of international law. That’s why it’s a covert action. The guy is a terrorist. Go grab his ass.”

It’s true that renditions took a leap with Bush, who blatantly advertised that the U.S. was kidnapping people off the streets and torturing them. But as Clarke’s story reveals, renditions were the norm—a “no-brainer”—under Clinton. The main difference with Bush is that Clinton kept it mostly “covert”—and now Obama is going back to the “don’t tell–just do it” policy on renditions. Or as Walter Slocombe, Clinton’s undersecretary of defense, once put it, the only difference between Democratic and Republican rendition is that Democrats “drilled holes in the boxes” (as recounted by Reuel Marc Gerecht, former CIA officer, in a 12/13/08 New York Times op-ed piece titled “Out of Sight”).

With a little help...excuse me, A LOT OF HELP from his enemies on the left, both in and out of this country.
Well lets recall the government during Bush's first 6 years. We had a Republican Congress and Bush in office. So the Republicans had it all, they could have done anything. They even had the Supreme Court. But did they do anything, nope, nothing at all just funded a war and would get mad and say, if you do not vote for the war you are not an American. The truth is the Republicans did it to themselves and now the Democrats have a chance at the same, hopefully they will not make the same mistakes the Bush administration did, but only time will tell. By the way why didn't the Republicans over turn abortion, or ban gay marriage since they had the control. No they only use those topics to gain votes.

Hey, Notintheknow13, are you keeping track of Obama's unprecedented spending spree?? By the time the Obamanation passes, there likely will not be anything left to govern.

We'll see how fast the wheels come off this country with this bunch of dumbells in charge.
