I have read several posts that talk about how bad chain restaurants are and how they are "taking over." Really? That is the type of talk that is typical of the average southern "afraid of change" attitude. We have had mom and pop shops around here for years, YEARS. Most of them have done nothing but serve mediocre food at terrible prices. We need competition. We need a starbucks. We need a pf changs. We need a hooters. We need a macaroni grill. Chains are not a bad thing. If they do well, fine, thats what people want. If they dont, so be it. Let the people decide.

The positive about chains are that (usually) you have consistency (selections, taste, etc) no matter where you are at or travel to. If you are in an area (traveling) that you don't know anything about you usually can rely upon finding something that you are used to, when it comes to eating.

There are many disadvantages, depending on the chain, but overall I hope they all do good, chains and locals which can offer some unique cuisine.
