Are we experiencing the last days of Constitutional rule?

By Paul Craig Roberts

03/16/06 The Bush administration’s greatest success is its ability to escape accountability for its numerous impeachable offenses.

The administration’s offenses against US law, the US Constitution, civil liberties, human rights, and the Geneva Conventions, its lies to Congress and the American people, its vote-rigging scandals, its sweetheart no-bid contracts to favored firms, its political firing of Republican US Attorneys, its practice of kidnapping and torturing people in foreign hellholes, and its persecution of whistle blowers are altogether so vast that it is a major undertaking just to list them all.

For the next 20 months, the US will be subjected to the six-ring circus, cheap carnie and various sideshows, including various chicken chomping geeks, that make up the Presidential campaign.

Then, we shall have an election. Two months after that, we will have a new President. But, no matter the party in power, we will still face a vicious enemy of headhunting Islamofacsist, salifists, wahhabis, islamists, etc. that believe God wants you and me dead. And, will use every means to achieve that end. Have a nice day!

Muslim extremists are relatively small in number, around a couple thousand , but because of Bush's wars and atrocities the numbers are growing. They have stated repeatedly that they are trying to drive the West from the region. They want to create Islamic religious states but the majority of the people reject their extremism. If the US was to withdraw from the region and force Israel to abide by international law it would take the wind out of the extremists sails.

The threat by Islamic terrorist does not require the American people to forfeit our constitutional rights and freedom. Simple police work and international cooperation had already crippled it's leadership but because of our atrocities and looting in Iraq they continue to grow. Same in Afghanistan.

The US is in the region to control the oil. We need to find alternatives to oil. We are spending billions of dollars and thousands of lives to control a resource that is finite and will run out one day. As supplies dwindle costs will rise. We should be spending the money on safe, renewable energy sources.
Following are the freedoms that Bush and his rubber-stamp congress have relieved us of in the name of fighting terrorism, ie "The Patroit Act" :
1> Amendment 4 - the right of privacy
2> Amendment 5 - The right of Habeas Corpus
3> Amendment 6 - the right to a speedy trial
4> Amendment 7 - the right to trial by jury
5> Amendment 8 - No cruel and unsual punishment

WE have been left with the following freedoms:
1> Amendment 1 - God, religeous freedom
2> Amendment 2 - guns
3> Amendment 3 - you ain't gotta room and board a soldier if you don't wanna.

We have made terrible sacrifice to fight Bush's war for oil. Wonder which freedom he had planned to take away next until Nov. 06 ?
It will be a while, but we will ALL see the horrid damage that GW has done to our country... it will come to light.

God, as I know God will NOT allow Bush to play God and not be EXPOSED for doing so.

His LIES, His manipulations, his cheating will ALL equal up to his ACCOUNTABILITY someday, and I will definitely watch THAT trial on TV, even if I have to take vacation time to do so!!!!!
pba, I get asked about what brought me to this forum, It was fear. I was told that the people of Alabama were blind followers of the Neo Conservatives. I had a lot of conversations about it, and the generalization spread to most of the South, Midwest, and my own home state.

Well, I got to thinking about my home state. It has more than its share of Conservatives, Barry Godwater was an Arizonan, Jon Kyl is an Arizona Senator, John McCain is the Other, Renquist and Sandra Day O'Conner were both from Arizona. We voted red in the last two Presidential Elections, yet we have a split delegation in the House.

I stay here because the liberty to express is held dear by the moderators. I stay because there are opposing viewpoints, and genuinely intelligent people on Both sides.
I stay because the discussions are stimulating and in many cases edifying.
I disagree that the Constitution is at Risk from either the radical right or the radical left. The MILITANT MIDDLE will presserve it, one way or another. IT HAS BEEN TO GOOD TO LET GO.

I object to the Bush Double Speak of "we can preserve our liberty and security only by destroying the Constitution. And I fear for the nation when I see people defending the violation of guaranteed rights, calling those rights privileges, resserving them only for "Real Americans and Real Allies." But I KNOW two things. My rights are protected ONLY so long as yours are, and "Mob Rule" is an oxymoron, and a synonym for ABSOLUTE DEMOCRACY.
