bluesmann We are ready for a NON PARTISAN Presidency. The problem with party politics is no one seems to understand one fundamental fact. NORTHERN REPUBLICANS ARE NOT LIKE SOUTHERN REPUBLICANS. EASTERN REPUBLICANS ARE NOT LIKE WESTERN REPUBLICANS, AND THE REPUBLICANS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE COUNTRY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE LIKE.

save me a little time, and read that twice, substitute DEMOCRATS for REPUBLICANS on the second reading.
While many may disagree, I see the Republicans once again running to their moderate past and abandoning the conservatives that elected them.

Much the same happened to the Democrat Party in the late 1960s and they ended up very liberal, although many want them even more liberal.

We don't need more moderates, but a conservative party that will freeze out the far right fringe, while hoping the Democrats freeze out the far left fringe.
The problem with a third party president is that, without legislative support it is doomed. Just as Jesse Ventura found in Minnesota. The infrastructure must be built from the ground up. The Senate and House of Representatives must have a number of independent/third party members or any proposed Presidential reform will never have a chance.

jchpp absolutely correct, WE CONCENTRATE TO MUCH ATTENTION ON THE PRESIDENCY. The truth is the CONGRESS RUNS THE COUNTRY. The Committee of the Whole is what makes the difference.

FORMING A THIRD PARTY FOR A CONGRESSIONAL SEAT CAN HAPPEN IN THE SHOALS. It can Happen In Mobile. FORMING A THIRD PARTY FOR A PRESIDENTIAL RUN REQUIRES ORGANIZATION IN 435 CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS, AND EACH OF THEM HAS A DEMOCRATIC AND REPUBLICAN ORGANIZATION. Every Precinct in the county has A DEMOCRAT AND A REPUBLICA REPRESENTING IT IN THE STATE PARTY ORGANIZAITION.
This country needs both parties to CLEAN UP THEIR ACTS!!! They need to follow the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Declaration of Independence, and the law of the land of this country and states.

The President (regardless of who he is) needs the line-item veto capability to stop pork barrel spending and waste by Congress/Senate.

The Supreme Court and judicial system nominees need a hearing, then up or down vote. Our court system is hurting due to lack of qualified judges. Also, judges are to be fair, balanced, and impartial. They should NOT legislate from the bench.

The Senate and House/Congress need to remember who elected them, why they were elected, and get the boot at the ballot box when they don't do their jobs. 40+ years is WAY too long, IMHO, to be in the House or Senate...

Finally, ALL elected individuals need to remember that once they make a decision, they need to live by it and quit spinning.. Secondly, their decisions can have 2nd order of effects.

I agree. Even more important than the parties are for *voters* to read, understand, and support these documents. They are the basis for our country and we should protect the rights of those we disagree with just as strongly as we protect those who agree with us.

Do not agree. Doing this gives too much power for the party (doesn't matter which) in control of the Senate. The ability of the minority party to stall, delay, prevent a vote etc. is important in that it encourages more thought in the selection of candidates.

"Should not legislate from the bench". This is true. Unfortunately, these days this phrase is most often applied to any judicial ruling which is simply disliked. Under our system of checks and balances, the legislature is *not* free to simply pass whatever laws they wish with impunity. The role of the judiciary is to make sure that those laws are in accordance with state and federal constitutions and other laws.

Length of service is not the problem. A good person can serve as well as a bad one. It is the responsibility of voters to watch their representatives and take action. Don't blame the long-term politician, blame the voters.

Honesty and straight-forwardness should be valued.
