Obama moves mother-in-law into the White House?? Okay, do the tax payers pay for her lodging, food prepared by the WH chef, travel expenses to Camp David, etc. WOW, this is change we can believe in...?

The Presidency wasn't pressure enough, now Obama wants his mother-in-law there to look over his shoulder...? This guy is clueless.

American by birth, Southern by the grace of God.

I think we should let them hire an illegal alien to help with the kids, pay her $2.15/hr and feed her bread and water. We'll be generous and give her Sunday afternoon off. For her Christmas bonus, we can ship her family a 50 pound sack of rice. If she is married, we will give her husband a job taking care of the grounds. Same pay.

If you were the First Lady, you would be expected to attend late night functions and travel across and out of the country during the school week. Who would you rather have there in your home to take care of your kids? Your mother? Or some stranger you just met when your husband took office?

Your kidding right? You are actually upset about this. I would love to have my mother-in -law there to help out with the kids. Barack and Michelle are going to be pretty busy so I'm sure that someone needs to be there to look after the children. To have the mother-in-law do this instead of some stranger shows great family values to me. You, Sheldivr, are the one who is clueless.

I do not like and did not vote for the man, but I have to agree with dolomite. If it could not be my wife or myself I would rather it be one of our parents keeping our kids. With all the pressure he will be facing, when he retires to the "privacy" of the White House, he has to face his mother in law.

Ditto!

I am a troublemaker because I don't like freeloaders? Hmmmmmmmmm - am I hitting too close to home? The rules say we are free to disagree.
From what I have read, the grandmother has already been filling the role of "child sitter" for both of these girls for years. I'm sure it will bring stability for them to have her stay in that role.

As for the taxpayers paying, the President and family have to pay for their meals unless they are official state dinner type things and I'm pretty sure she would not be included in those. This has been done before - I believe it was Harry Truman's mother in law that lived in the White House. That is the most recent family member living in the White House that I know of.

Not to worry , reba has left the building , as in banned . Wink
I don't mind paying her NOW if she has been being paid all along...it's a matter of whether her actual role has changed and I don't think it has...yes, we have bigger fish to fry, but it's the small details that have been costing us millions over the years -- My mom doesn't get paid for keeping the grands now -- i doubt she would get paid if we were to make more money either...

I do agree that it will smooth the transition for the First Daughters...I'm not saying it's a bad thing -- it's just something that most of us expected but everyone acted like the Obamas were "above"...like I said, all the internet jokes ... some are becoming reality...
For the last time DixieChik, she's not being paid, and the President himself pays for his family's meals, his dry cleaning, toiletries and so forth unless its state function at the White House. Link

And as far as family members living at the White House, Ulysses Grant's father-in-law, Richard Dent, and Harry Truman's mother-in-law, Madge Gates Wallace, both lived there as well. And Jenna Welch, Laura Bush's mother often stayed for weeks.

Seriously, this complaining about every little thing, even when its been known for months is old. Some of you guys need to get a life.

You sound like that mother-in-law from hell.
