I have been in a few Socialist Countries, Canada most recently, and free speech flourishes there, and in Germany and France, as well. Mexico is capitalist, I think they allow some freedom of speech and political action, but then WHO WANTS TO LIVE IN THAT CAPITALIST PLACE.quote:Originally posted by USA1:

Well i guess socialism has more to do with government controlled economics and trade rather freedom of speech. However i do think that socialism could loosely apply to censorship of speech due to the fact you can't have communism without socialism.
USA 1, Sweden is a socialist nation. FREEDOM OF SPEECH IS GUARANTEED THERE. Same In England, France, Germany, Canada, And THE USA. Police Departments, Fire Departments, Highway Systems, Public Schools are all socialist BUSINESSES.quote:Originally posted by USA1:

Causing probs for TD already??? Yep, and baiting and luring and trolling to get people to argue...
Ain't gonna work with me... I am just gonna giggle my way through it! lololol
Of course you would not. You don't recognize the FASCIST nature of the attacks on Public education. Most ot the Sheeple who are being indoctrinated by the right wing don't.quote:Originally posted by USA1:
Ed,
The whole point behind the post was this. The more government control the less freedom of everthing. I also would not equate socialism to your examples.

Book One, Chapter 7
"If there was hope, it must lie in the proles, because only there, in those swarming disregarded masses, eighty-five percent of the population of Oceania, could the force to destroy the Party ever be generated."
"Until they become conscious they will never rebel, and until after they have rebelled they cannot become conscious." - referring to the proles.
Book One, Chapter 8
"…to do anything that suggested a taste for solitude, even to go for a walk by yourself, was always slightly dangerous. There was a word for it in Newspeak: ownlife…"

Sort of like sure, I have freedom of speech, and you have freedom of speech so what the H E Double toothpicks are you WHINING ABOUT? I get this kind of sensation that the Conservatives are crying about having to allow free speech to even the least liberal speakers.
So, I reacted by focusing on the word "socialist" in the comment. I know what socialism actually is, I know how the Neo Conservatives had corrupted the word. They have gone so far as to define Nazism as Socialist, though it is actually the same brand of fascism they are preaching.
Now USA1 is equating socialism with government censorship. Nazis censored speech and writing, dictators typically suppress free speech, but Socialist Governments, like the one created by the US Constitution generally guarantee Free Speech. At least the successful socialist nations, most of Europe, in any case, gurantee freedom of speech, the press, religion, and most, if not all of the guarantees Americans are used to, and demand. There are restrictions on Gun ownership in much of Europe, and the UK France, Italy and Spain all have a state religion, but allow the practice of others.

Can a student pray?
Can they say the pledge?
Socialism = censorship

Yes, of course a student can pray. If you think otherwise, you have listened to Jerry Falwell too long.
Yes, a student can say the Pledge of Alligence.
I am confused as to why you would even bring such questions to any discussion.
I notice that you responded to my words by requesting that I post my own words. ARE YOU A MENTALLY COMPETENT?quote:Originally posted by USA1:quote:Originally posted by EdEKit:I had a knee jerk reaction to this the first time I read it.quote:Originally posted by USA1:

Can you post anything in your own words? Orwell is dead.
In short, I said socialism threatens free speech. You said it didn't but went on to say that our school system is a type of socialism.
Now answer my question.
Can a student pray? yes, but he cannot be required to
Can they say the pledge? yes but he cannot be required to
Socialism = censorship WRONG...TYRANNY, FASCIST, SOCIALIST, COMMUNIST OR THEOCRATIC = CENSORSHIP.
