The report says that they did remove the money from the machine.

That's pretty much identical to what happened here. Hell, it could even be the same guys. I will be surprised if local authorities catch these guys. They are probably long gone.... already casing out their next one.
Shouldn't be hard to solve this case. It has to be someone that worked at the construction site at the new Publix. That's where they stole the forklift from.
