ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!????? Okay, after some weirdo has done the dirty deed and gets caught, they put that as a headline for the region section. But when they have the chance to possibly help catch this perv BEFORE he hurts a child, they miss the chance and bury the article two pages deep.

TIMES DAILY: THAT IS TERRIBLE!!!!
.
.
Last month my daughter's best friend was walking to another building on her school's campus. A young man (late 20s- early 30s) drove up beside her and asked her how she was doing. She said, "Fine, thanks." He said, "Good...now get in the truck." She said, "No! I don't know you." He said, "Get in the f**ck!ng truck right now!" She threw her books down and ran into the school building. The guy drove off. Two days later a man fitting his description and driving the same very distinct truck tried to get a 10 year old boy to get in his truck.

These are all people I personally know and live near in my neighborhood. The girl's dad is an attorney with the AG office and he put the full-court press on the police to find this SOB. There was an immediate reaction of the mothers. We all got on the phone and warned other parents to spread the word that this creep was on the prowl. I personally followed 2 different trucks fitting the description to get their tag numbers, but they were not the right trucks. I seriously considered carrying around a baseball bat in my car in case I ever came across this person. I get so mad when I think of what he tried to do. I heard of another attempted abduction the next week in a nearby city. I have no idea if it was real or related. Parents must be on the alert and teach their children to be aware and safe. It is absolutely terrible that we live in a world that has child predators, but the fact is that we do and we have to protect our children. If I had come across him a few days after he tried to take An****, I think I would have killed him.

My blood pressure is through the roof after thinking about this. Mad

you make a good point ed,except for one thing. TD will take some of the STRANGEST things and plaster the front page with it.
Very little of the bad stuff will be on the front page, got to remember this is a no-crime,Mayberry like, wannbe retirement community.
Issues such as the one from the beginng post NEEDS to be plastered on the front page,on the radio stations etc. It was a blessing those little girls got away from the man,,but he got away also,,,,,,,,,,,whos child will not be so lucky?
Did anyone else read the article in the paper? I've thrown my away, but I think the article mentioned that the person "walked" up into the yard where the children were playing, made the kids scream by grabbing one and then "ran" away from the yard through the woods. My big question was, "Did he have a car or was he a member of that community, maybe a few blocks down where the kids didn't know him, and he just ran home?" Very scary stuff.
there was a guy here in Haleyville hanging around the kids at the ball feild. He didn't have a child playing so the parents became suspicious and called the police. Come to find out he was a molester relocated from Michagan. He has been told that he is not return to the ballfield for any reason and every one in Haleyville is watching out for him{legal red tape kept him from being arrested.}He was driving a pickup also. Maybe police in quad cities need to check him out.Haleyville is a very small and close community so his "hunting grounds"are limited him now

Just like todays online version of the TD,.... a cat and a squirrel? Who cares? And the Mayberry comment....... too funny. And true.
1. If he was a "molester" as you say, that would make him a convicted sex offender and if he wasn't registered he could certainly have been arrested. If he wasn't ever convicted of a sex offense, he has just as much right as you and I to hang out at the ball field.
2. Watching kids play ball if you don't have one playing is reason to call the police? That's going to be bad news for lots of Friday night football fans come fall.
3. Could the "legal red tape" that kept him from being arrested be that he hadn't done anything illegal? Or was it because the Haleyville cops couldn't find their one set of handcuffs?

Yeah, let's get the lynch mob after this guy and have the cops follow him around. We can't have innocent people running around loose.
He was a convicted molester from Michagan. It was stamped on his drivers license. The very competent Haleyville police ...just as competent as yours] couldn't arrest him because Michagan has not forwarded his arrest and probation papers to Alabama.Haleyville police even called the state attorney general to try to do something but since his files have not been sent from Michagan he has not received his"due process hearing" so there fore can't be arrested in alabama. Hw was not just watching the children. He was following some around, helping them climb steps, following them to concession stand, buying them snacks 'giving them high fives. following them as they walked to rest room. All Haleyville has been raising all H*** because he wasn't arresred but HPD said they did all they could and some hae confronted the attornery to find out why. GO to HBTV Haleyville and read the story yourself. Why are you sounding so defensive. All I was doing was trying to warn you guys in case it is the same one. There is even a link to the MIchagan sex offender site on the HB TV haleyville link
We all wanted him arrested just by violating probation by being around where children congragate.Maybe where your children or grandchildren oneighbors. don't observe suspicious behavior but folks in haleyville do. Sorry I was just trying to say beware of the guy ib the white pick up. It was also on OUR home town newspaper front page because we relizer the importance of it.
hello lawguy. sorry I got so irratatable. I just don't like to be demeaned or made out a liar when I know the facts. OH! by the way!!! update. please go to HBTV Haleyvill,AL First scan down the page to Sex offender in our midst" and read. Then look to the right and read what is on the "shoutbox" and then, and then!!!! read the stoty on top of the page. seems like our lynch mob didn't scare him away.
Mawbear, I apologize for my uncalled for outburst. Now that the link to the story has been provided and more facts are available, it's clear that this was more than just a guy hanging out watching a ball game. I certainly don't fault parents for being vigilant with their kids. It's clear now that he probably IS a sex offender under Alabama law, it just hasn't been legally determined yet. Again, much more clear with the additional facts. I admit I came across as rude and that was wrong. But as a defense attorney, I sometimes get up in arms when folks just "assume" that someone is guilty. Obviously not the case here. And sounds like HPD has improved since I last had any dealings with them.

I want to warn all parents that the most unfortunate thing about child molesters is the fact that 80 - 90 % of the time they are either a relative, family friend, or someone else the family knows and trusts. Know the warning signs so you can help your child if they show any unusual behavior(s). These creeps know how to intimidate children. Even children who you would think would come and tell you might not. If your child does try to tell you, don't pass it off as just "silly talk". It's such a hard thing to fathom...but never assume it couldn't happen to your child.

Here is an excellent resource that lists warning signs and lots of other valuable info:

I take lawguy's side on this. I attend several games in the area to support my HS team and I don't have any chidren. I take offense to the statements that people with no children are the preditors. A preditor can be a married man with children or even a grandfatherly type. There are many others like me that attend and support the games. If you are concerned about someone, then why not just talk to them and find out about them instead of slinging accusations around. I also agree with mawbear that what this man was doing was inappropriate and am sorry that nothing could be done about it.
