As far as reviews it looks like it will be a ground breaking movie.

Special effects should get a 10.

Humans/Americans the bad guys? Very trite, but I don't think most viewers will be concerned with that aspect of it.

While I don't know the whole plot, why does the protagonist have to first enter the body of the alien to get his legs back later? Rather like watching an episode of CSI:Miami.
I hear it's going to be awesome! Here are Five reasons to see Avatar;

1. James Cameron – The man who brought us the Terminator movies, Aliens and Titanic is back after more than 10 years away from Hollywood.
2. Special Effects – James Cameron is known for being a pioneer in film making. He pushes the limits of imagination, this time he uses a combination of live action and CGI on a level thats never been done before. Cameron even had to wait for the technology to catch up with his vision before work on Avatar could begin. If he succeeds this is the future way of making movies.
3. 3D - Will it revolutionize the movie business like some say? Avatar was made with 3D in mind from the start, James Cameron is betting everything he has on this and he truly believes that 3D is here to stay. Everything in real life is 3D, why shouldn’t movies? Avatar will show if people are willing to pay extra for a movie experience in 3D.
4. The Avatar universe – Avatar is set to be the starting point of a new universe. Just like George Lucas created Star Wars back in 1977, James Cameron has developed everything on Pandora (the planet where the story takes place) from scratch; a new ecosystem, new spices, a new language, new vehicles and hardware just to name some things we will get to learn when seeing the movie. And the movie will only be one of the bricks building this new universe, games, books, websites and other stuff are to follow.
5. Escaping reality – This is what movies are all about. You just sit down and you enter a new reality where anything is possible. Avatar will make this even more believable with it’s 3D technology. People who has seen footage of the movie say that they have had memories of Pandora as if they’d actually been there.

These were taken from an Avatar website (link below) which has lots of cool trailers, reviews, info, and an interview of Cameron.

AN AMAZING FILM..
Just got back and I can say if this movie does not get the ocscar for special effects, then they need to do way with that award.

From the very beginning we set there totally taken in by the scenery. The 3D affect has forest creatures floating in the air around you, and animals that make the bar scene in star wars, cartoonist...
If you don't go but for the special affects it is worth every pennny...

Ditto!!!!!!!!!

Glad to hear the good reviews - gonna try to see it this week. Heard it was 3+ hours, though.

Unless you are an ultra-lib, I'll bet you will have had enough by the one hour mark.
I thought it was great. The 3D effect was excellent.

It's not 3+ hours, it's around two and a half. Special effects were pretty good, basically felt like a live action Pixar movie.

Think of Dances With Wolves on a different planet.

Overall, I enjoyed it. I was entertained the entire time and that's the whole point of going to a movie.

I don't understand your hostility toward the film - is is because it is pro-ecology?

It's anti-American. If we live the way these nut jobs want us to, we would all still be living in caves, i.e. no internet. Smiler They made a piece of propaganda to make gullible kids think that anyone who cuts down a tree is bad, never mentioning the fact that their little school supplies depend on felled trees.
It's not anti-anything. It's JUST a movie. If you think the makers of the film truly wanted us to live that way, they (James Cameron)wouldn't have made the film. It wasn't about cutting down the trees, it was about doing it the right way, which was not done. I thought the movie was excellent and I'm a CONSERVATIVE who doesn't think everyone's out to get us. The movie has nothing to do with the color of a person's skin, either. The Americans portrayed in the film were a diverse croud, to say the least. If you REALLY want to get down to it, this was no different than what the early settlers did, right up until the 1800's.

How many gullible young kids watching that movie were pulling for the terrible humans to be killed? 90%? 100%?

Give me a break, man. IT'S A MOVIE. Do you think Heath Ledger wanted everybody to be a gay cowboy? Do you think Johnny Depp wants everybody to be the pirate version of Keith Richards? Do you think Charlize Theron wants all women to be ugly, pedophiliac lesbians? Seriously. . .

Did you watch the movie?

I wasn't rooting for the humans to get killed. It was like any other movie, there are good guys and bad guys.

Like I said before, it's basically "Dances With Wolves" on a different planet. How many people who saw that were rooting for the American soldiers to get killed? That's not really how the story works since there were soldiers who were good guys and some who were bad.

There are some underlying political statements, but it's hardly propaganda. It didn't change my personal political views, I just took it with a grain of salt. It's entertainment, a way to kill a couple of hours. It's not my favorite movie, but I enjoyed it.

so what the humans were the antagonists, its not like Pandora actually exist and this movie is going to make everyone Pro Alien...you don't even have a clue. your one of those that tries to find a fault in EVERYTHING. you know, now that ive thought about it, i did watch Requiem for a Dream the other night and now i kind of want to be a drug dealer. guess you're on to something
why don't you just cry a little more Kperk014. its a film that has a protagonist and antagonist, just like every film in the world does. and the protagonists are ALIENS, ALIENS!!! if a little kid is brainwashed into thinking humans are bad, which 50 percent of humans probably are, then are they also going to think that theres actually Aliens and a planet called Pandora???!!! because using your logic they will.
I think the film's strongest message is a pro-ecological one and I think it is great. James Cameron admits that he is a "tree hugger" and I don't have any problems with that. More people should be! The bad guys in the film cared more for money than the alien's home or for nature. Sadly, there are LOTS of people like that in the world today. I enjoyed seeing them portrayed as bad guys.

As for the "anti-American" comment, I don't see it.
