Hello folks let me shed some light on gas and the stations that sells the gas....

First of all T S C , I would like to know JUST HOW IN THIS WORLD HAVE YOU FOUND THAT MOST LOW PRICED GAS STATIONS SELL BAD GAS...

TSC the MAJOR stations like Shell , Cowboys , Racetrack and places like that. Have some of the best contracts with the carriers... The carriers are REQUIRED to help monitor the water level and remove any water at NO COST to the CUSTOMER..(with the exeption of product loss). Also the average varience of temps in the gas are not enough to affect the way your car runs...Gas is usually between
60 and 70 farenhiet (even in the ground on a cold winter day) this does not affect the way that the car will perform...the only thing it affects is the weight of the gas...

So if your looking for a SCAPEGOAT keep looking..Try looking at your cars shop history...When was the last time you had a tune up...Even new cars breakdown...
Hi Matt! Welcome to the forums, great 1st post!

Shell sells good gasoline in my area. It is the Raceways, Cowboys, Kangaroo, and the other stations that are usually cheaper by a nickel that I find sell gasoline that makes my Explorer knock and run poorly.

My 2000 Ford Explorer has excellent service records. My brother is a mechanic and takes care of it very well, thanks for asking. Last tune up was at 100,000 miles. We changed the plugs, hoses, and belt out, flushed the radiator, and even ended up having to change out the thermostat while we were at it - it got the full treatment and then some. It is at 136,000+/- right now. He's going to change the oil this weekend and I need to have the tires rotated as well.

Hope you have a fabulous day.
I've heard through the RV forum I visit not to buy gas when the station is refilling it's tanks. The reasoning is that the bottom debris is being stirred up and may be passed into your car. Don't know if there is any validity to this as I thought the gas went through a filter before reaching your tank.

I've also heard that most gas stations get their gas off the same barge. The only difference being the additive that a specific brand may include after it's been pumped from the barge. Anybody know if this is true?

I seem to have found down thru the years that the cheapest gasoline runs best. An old man told me that back when I was 15, and for the most part it is true. Theory is that fresh gas just runs better, and cheap gas sells fastest, and therefore stays fresh.
Matt may have a comment on that, just an observation on my part.
I only have had bad gas once that I can recall, got it at a Shell station in Corinth. Some kind of trash. Stopped up my filter. Actually, had to change the filter 3 or 4 times before the effect was gone.
On Roofer's comment- I always pay at the pump with a credit card. I HATE to have to go into the station and wait behind a line of people buying cokes, cigarettes, whatever. I have run across some stations that do not have pay at the pump, but want you to pre-pay. How the hell do you know how much you are going to need if you fill up. They want to hold my credit card? Well , they are crazy as a road lizard if they think they are going to hold onto my card- don't want to see any bamboo steamers or whatever charged up later on.
