Several months ago, there was an announcement on the Alabama Music Hall of Fame website, promoting the Bamaroo Music Festival to be held during the third weekend of May 2010 with a disclaimer of “More Information Coming Soon.” Now there is no reference or link to the festival, as if it has been canceled. Was this just another stunt to bring attention to this failing tourist attraction?

The HOP, which is supposed to be the showcase of the History of Alabama Music is seriously lacking.

All through the state, there are portable venues that pop up during the weekend and host some of the greatest music acts performing today. The one they had in Enterprise, Alabama last year is expanding their venue for this year’s performance. There were some good reviews of the one held near Auburn. Yet the best that the HOF can mustard up is has been and cancelations.

If Joe Farmer, want to make some serious money to save the family farm, have the local utility run a designated power feed to one of his larger fields. Recruit some of the local charities and non-profits for manpower. Portable food vendors, portable restrooms, and have a music festival, which is not much different from the days of the Alabama’s June Jam.

The problem with such an event at the HOF is that will never happen, because it lacks logistics to pull off such as event and too many people want their hand in the kitty.
There is music festivals every year in tons of places BONNAROO, is on a former farm in Manchester, TN and gets tons of great artists and over 70k people attend.. with VERY MINIMAL corporate sponsorship.

The Hangout is hosting one in Gulf shores on the public beach, people are planning on going to that one from far away places such as chicago, north carolina and all over.

They could put together a good time, but the 'old" people that run the HOF do not know what draw crowds.
The management of the Alabama Music Hall of Fame is more correctly desc ribed as "MANGLEMENT."

The dingbat in charge has shown his incompetence time and again.

Yes, they are positioned to stage very profitable concerts, but they seem to be fumbling away their opportunities and continuing to seek tax money to prop up their operation.

That's a good question. The Amphitheater was announced back in 1998 I believe. I remember a fund raising concert or two for it, then it just fell off of everyone's radar.

I think an Amphitheater would be a great idea. Since Starwood in Nashville was torn down, the closest ones are Oak Mt. and Lakewood. A good outdoor venue in the Shoals would draw in crowds and help boost the local economy.

The intent of the constitutional amendment that established the AMHOF was that their operations and any expansions beyond the original museum would be financed by bonds or by other income generated by the AMHOF. They have been such a loser that they would have little or no hope of issuing bonds, since they would not be able to obtain any kind of decent bond rating. So what little they have in the kitty for an amphitheater is not enough and is not likely to grow to be enough unless and until the manglement of that white elephant gets its dead ass in motion and comes up with something substantial by way of fundraising.
