I had the same problem yesterday. As it turns out they had sent me a new card a few weeks ago due to a potential compromise on my card (LOTS of people received the new cards) & I hadn't "gotten around" to activating it.

I called customer service & was told that yesterday was the cutoff for using your old (compromised) card and they were all deactivated.

I was a little sad when my card was denied for my $6 lunch but it was my own fault for being lazy about activating the new one!

I just called Customer Service and they said it wasn't all cards -- just ones processed by Heartland or something...if you are in doubt -- give them a call before you head out to use your card and they can let you know if you should have received a new card (in case yours is AWOL) and if your card has been affected...386-5000...mine was not...but I'd hate to get to the check out line with a counter full of stuff and be turned down...
If you did get a new card then you need to call customer service at 386-5000 and activate it and detroy your old card. They have deactivated your old card. WHen you call them you can tell them what you want you PIN number to be. I would suggest telling them what you want you PIN number to be because your PIN number on your old card will not work.

Had this happen to mine too with Valley Credit Union recently. They pretty much disable all the debit cards they think might have been compromised. Just like starting over really, you get another card and you have to activate it when you get it.
