I hope the Bass Pro Shop thing will go away, There's no way you can tell me that taking away the public park we've all enjoyed for so many years and puting a retail development as such is going to benefit me one little bit. there is plenty of places to put retail devopment without taking away our public entity.
I do however, suport doing somthing that benefit the public as a whole. A zoo, an aqurium, a musuim or maybe all three. The golf course came and atracts those with money, and I do support it, now lets do somthing for the comon population.
I agree. I think the BPS would not be a very smart move - especially at Veteran's Park. We play co-ed softball there and I would be terribly upset for them to tear it down for a BPS. Not only that, but all the little league teams that play there, the tennis teams, and a lot of people meet down there during pretty weather for family reunions. During our softball games, some people who were camping out would watch it and they throughly enjoyed it. I believe, and this is just MY OPINION OUT OF MY OWN MIND, that if they want to put up a BPS, fine, but do it on some land to where they do not have to take away our parks, because there are not a lot of them left around here!
THANK SWEET JESUS: This horse is DEAD! Let it die! Not that the Bronnerites don't DESPERATELY want to ride the pony again, but thanks to the efforts of the Shoals Enviromental Alliance and the TVA board, Bronner was shot off his stallion on THIS one! I love it when Goliath is slain by a little David contacting ANOTHER BIGGER and ****** Goliath! THE DOG

Oh, Mr. Jones you know I would be the first to give Scott his due and apologize for leaving him out! And yeah you are right Max, I don't trust Bronnerites since they seem to have everyone in their hip pockets from elected officials to the TD and we MUST be vigilant! I am just stretched to thin to take on old topics, right now I am fighting SEDA and tax increases! THE DOG

Explain why the Shoals area needs a Bass Pro Shop?

Next, how many different Bass Pro Shops have you been to?

And related to above, what are the similarities with the locations of the Bass Pro Shops you have been too?

Let's keep this in perspective. A Bass Pro Shop would be AWESOME! Most of you should admit that when you're near one, you make it to a point to go. The problem is not the BPS, it's the multi-million dollar incentive to come. If the BPS company thinks the Shoals would bring a good return on its investment, then by all means let it come on over and build it using their own money to be recouped through sales the way every other business does it. Otherwise, we're doing fine without one.

If there's a vat of money from which to draw several million dollars in retail-baiting, then why don't we let the city officials live off it for a while a give our tax dollars a rest.
I agree with ONE WHO POSTS, We can all benefit from a BPS, but not by using my tax dollars or taking any land that is being used. Our parks are too valuable to loose to commercial interest.

If we are going to throw money into private business then lets start at home...wait, they did that with Neese and didn't get anything back...scratch that thought. Let just use out tax dollars to improve and maintain what we have.
I think Bass Pro Shop would be a good thing for the area but in a different location. We have some of the best hunting and fishing in Northwest Alabama, Florence area, Winston County, Marion and Franklin, and the Florence area could really benifit financially from the store....why can't they put it in a different location away from the park??
Don't have any problem with BPS putting in a store around here. I would probably go often.
I do have a serious problem giving them a lot of incentives to do so, and I will march in the streets with Maddog20/20 if necessary to keep them out of Vetrens Park.
Many other people open businesses in Florence, some of my kids for example, and they don't get
big incenives.
As I remember it about a year ago, a competor to BPS offered to come to the area without asking for anything but some tax relief, but they were turned down by the Florence City Council. Wish I remembered more about it, but maybe some of you have better memories than me. What's up with that kind of thinking.

Memory on name still vague, could have been , but one member of the Florence Council did bring it up, only to be shot down. THe leadership in Flotown was so set on giving Veterns park away to BPS I guess. Made me wonder who was gitting kickbacks.
I do believe they were going to pay for the privilidge.

I asked the previous questions earlier, no one answered them....so, I will have to answer my own.

1. I have been to the following Bass Pro Shops:
Springfield, MO (corporate HQ)
Savannah, GA
Charlotte, NC
Hampton, VA

NONE compare to the Cabela's Outfitters that is 20 miles south of me in Kansas City, Kansas...Cabela's DWARFS Bass Pro Shop...

2. Related to all the above BPS's, what do they have in common? Answer: 1. off an Interstate hwy 2. near a major tourist/metro area. The Shoals is near neither 1 or 2....

3. The Shoals does NOT need a bass Pro Shop. The area can't support it.

I can go on and on, but the TUNA study pretty much summed up my feelings when it was released a year or so ago.
I've said it before, and Schnauzer has the right oppinion, do not take my tax dollars to destroy vetrans park (which is public domain) to pay a retail development to build a for profit establishment. Leave Vetrans park for a public attraction. Why don't they build a retail store adjacent to the Eddie Frost park?
Same as when someone did a survey of the Robert Trend Jones comeing here, saying how much it had helped & improved everwhere they built a new one,, lol if they did the same survey here it would show the same or better before the golf courses came here . I play golf & have played at 6 of the others thru out the state, but hey, all the Cracker Barrels, Logans , Road House, places they had was allready going to be there or as here , allready here before any Robert Trent came here, as all over the USA , we allready had them before the golf courses came here, now where is our addictional growth.
