If it's not, it should be. The last time we were there, there was only one server and apparently only one cook. They didn't have all the items in the kitchen necessary to complete my order and brought out my dish with about four measley pieces of crawfish-no shrimp-no sausage-no chicken. It was bad and the server appeared very embarassed when it was brought to their attention. I'd be embarassed, too.

Who goes to a BAR to eat and get good service??? Do you go to the gas station and expect great coffee, too? I bet that McFish sandwich is the best seafood you've ever had! HA!!! "

Bayou Blue IS a restaurant. Classified as a restaurant, subject to the 49/51% rule.

Food is usually good, as long as you go during the lunch/early afternoon hours. After that, quality and service diminishes.
From all I had heard they had great tasting food, even the guy at New Orleans Transfer (their competition) gave them high remarks for their quality. I'm wondering if the smoking decision hurt them? I don't know for sure they are out of business but by all appearances they are. The reason I never tried them out, although I did want to, was that it was always too smoky in there when I went in and since I prefer non-smoking to smoking I would always head over to New Orleans Transfer when I wanted Cajun cooking.
While eating at New Orleans Transfer I inquired of it's owner, because he's friends with the owner of Bayou Blue and he did confirm that they are out of business but didn't know for sure the reason.

One thought was that they were selling far too much alcohol in comparison to food and the city was going to require a much more expensive license to do business and that along with a few other factors is thought to have been responsible.

Since they remained smoking instead of going non-smoking they were getting far more "bar" business and frankly it was said that the folks were more interested in drinking and smoking rather than eating.

Strange because many thought that going non-smoking would be a death null to a restaurant and that going it would be a restaurant that went non-smoking that would take it out of business. Here though you have a smoking place that bit the dust.
I too hate to see a closure of a local business but then there are the rumors of the new wing place coming to town and you have Fatboys that appears to be doing well and the addition of the Japaneese restaurant in the old Mama Blues location hinted to be an Ichiban (out of Chattanooga). I think along with the three new businesses that chose to open in the old Toy's R Us, Old Navy and Goodies stores the area is seeing some growth or I hope it continues.
Man there are so many things you could add to Harley's statement that would also be true. How about the accessibility to an interstate or major Airport which industry looks at seriously ... mind you I65 isn't too far away but the way traffic engineering is done around there .. wait a minute is there traffic engineering? never mind add to that the vastly changing speed limits, crazy timing and placement of traffic lights there are so many encumbrances to get to the Highway that Athens or Decatur would appear as a much more desirable place. Add to that the schools (Remember how Florence closed so many) and many items that prospective employers look at and Florence or the Quad City area will come up short everytime. Being a great place to retire would be a positive rather than a negative, in my opinion, but the way that the local cities and counties work together or don't work together is a far more destructive thing.

There are positives to this area but hopefully we will continue to improve and find more.
