Leaving in the morning for a trip to Des Moines, IA to a antique tractor get together. Me & my running buddy are going to swing through Kansas City and hit a couple of the Q joints there enroot. Wed nite’s joint will be BB’s Lawnside BBQ for some BBQ, Blues & Booze. The feature act is suppose to be Shinetop Jr. Boogie Piano . Their website is http://www.bbslawnsidebbq.com/BBsMain.htm. Then Thursday for lunch before we head north we’re going to visit Arthur Bryant’s Legendary BBQ Joint. Their website is: http://www.arthurbryantsbbq.com/. I’ll post pictures and a full report when we return.

Aurthur Bryants isnt all its cracked up to be.
We checked out BB's tonight. Had a couple of the local brewery's wheat beers, a big ole BBQ sandwich and a half rack of spare ribs. The pulled pork was very good, had a good smoky flavor and was piled high on the bun. Downside to it was that they used a sesame seed bun (YUCK). I kicked it off the plate and used the white bread that the ribs were served on. Sauce was a medium body tomato based sauce that left a whole lot to be desired. The only way to add heat to the sauce was to use the LA Sauce on the table. WHAT NO HOT SAUCE?
As to the ribs, they were pulled from the smoker about an hour too soon. We knew that we were in trouble when they were served with a knife. They had a good smoke flavor too them but had not been dry rubbed before smoking. Wouldn't order them again.

We went to Arthur Bryant's BBQ in Kansas City for lunch today. We got there shortly before noon and the line was out the front door. It took us about 20 to 30 min to finally get our orders. We ordered pulled pork on Wonder bread with a side of fries. The pork came out sauced and was pretty darned good for a busy Q joint. Their sauce was a sweet red sauce and again there wasn't any hot sauce on the table. Guess folks in Kansas City don't like hot sauce on BBQ. All in all it was about what I expected from a hyped BBQ joint. As to it not being all that it's cracked up to be, I can only say "If you ain't been there and got the Tee Shirt to prove it, then don't throw off on it!"
Here is an outside shot:

The waiting line, all these folks think it cracked up pretty good:
