RE: http://www.timesdaily.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20.../NEWS/704120332/1011

Ya'all know I am an outsider. I live where the Liquor laws allow Sunday sales, after 10am. It was noon till we got an NFL team (if you can call the Arizona Cardinals a team) and had to have the games start at 10 in the morning so you folks in the Eastern Time Zone see us get whipped. So, they changed the law to allow beer sales at the games. The Regular opening time is 6 in the morning. Closing time is now 2 in the morning to allow shift workers time to pick up a 6 pack on their way home.

I have a suggestion. If you DON'T WANT TO BUY BOOZE ON SUNDAY, DON'T.

Aren't you in Tennessee?

I didn't say I supported the blue law, I think it's outdated and ridiculous. I see absolutely no reason why alcohol should not be sold on Sunday.

I'm originally from AL, I left when I was 22. My parents, grand parents, and other family are still in the Shoals, so what happens in my hometown does effect me. However, I had to leave so I guess I have no say in the issue.

I also think people who have never stepped foot in the state and who have no interest in the state should mind their own business. I don't worry about Arizona, people from Arizona shouldn't worry about Alabama or Tennessee.

NashBama, SMILE FRIEND. I do Live In Arizona, I make no secret of it. I have set foot in Alabama, in Fact I have paid taxes in Alabama that were significant.
I take an interest in the welfare of people all over the world, I don't ignore the needs of others, and I was only trying to be helpful.

Several Threads have appeared on Liquor Sales and Gambling. Both of those issues exist in Arizona. I actually thought that knowing my home state was prospering with Liquor Sales on Sunday might be of interest to people who were undecided about the issue in Florence, in particular.

PARDON ME FOR BREATHING, BUT AT LEAST I AM BREATHING ARIZONA AIR.

If I caused you pain by giving you something to think about, Nash, I am terribly sorry.
Dreamland was a joke. It most likely was management, but it sure did not last long! I went there one time, and had to leave because of the lousy service.
1. They refused to serve slaw.
2. I asked if they would cut my sandwich in two because it was so big, when they brought it back, it looked awful and they would not provide a fork to eat the mess.
3. the price was way to high.

Ed, Maybe this should be in the food section, but is Penticle Peak still up north of Scottsdale selling 2 pound porterhouse steaks with cinnamin ice cream for dessert? Went there when it was way out in the desert, now the town has moved around it, but they got my tie!

I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN THE PLACE. Tourist traps are the last places I go. Their on line menu says they still serve the 32 ounce porterhouse. http://www.pppatio.com/home/default.asp Nothing on that site about job openings.

Thanks for the web site. 1st time I went there in the early 70's , it was no tourist trap. In fact it seemed we drove out in the desert about an hour. They cooked out front over an open pit, would not gurantee any steak ordered well done. If you came in with a tie on, they cut if off and put it with your business card . Had great food and great service.
Went back in the mid 90's, and found it surrounded by town. Seems it had turned into some kind of tourist trap by then with the patio thing. Sorry it happened. Just got ice cream the last time.
I still remember that 32 oz steak- 2 pounds. I was full for 3 days.

I have a small problem. Arizona has a tourist season but it is illegal to shoot them. Seems we enjoy the punishment of 30 mile an hour traffic on the Freeway.

I have actually turned down invitations to the place, and prefer the Miners Camp in Apache Junction. It is off East of the city, at the end of a mile or so of dirt road, and can become a trap in the rainy season since the road gets washed out. Service is Banquet style, Long tables, all you care to eat, and a joyful ambiance. But, I have not been there in 25 years.

Definition of a tourist trap: anyplace that sells more sizzle than steak. Pinnacle Peak served well done boots. Seriously, the tie stunt was designed to get locals to bring their visiting friends there all dressed up. Ordering a well done steak gets you served a beat up old cowboy boot, and then your steak. The best steak house in Arizona is Monte's La Casa Vieja in Tempe. In addition to being in the childhood home of Senator Carl Hayden, they serve a great meal.

I am surprised by the response this has gotten, and the direction it has gone. I am a Secular Humanist, and think Blue Laws are establishment of religion. If you have to have a day of rest from Alcohol Sales, it should be Wednesday, preferably, the second Wednesday of Next week.

You should NEVER try the Commisary in Germantown for pulled pork, or the Rendivous in Memphis for ribs. You will be ruined for life.
For pure tummy troubles try the Bar B Que Flap Steak at the Phoenix VA hospital. All I can say is the emergency room is only a short walk from the Dining hall. But you should know better, it is hospital food after all.

Princess Lum, this is actually about the political issue of Sunday Beer sales. It got diverted to prole food by the readers.

What do you think, should the State Legislature pass a bill giving Local Control to Alcohol sales on Sunday?

To answer your question, I don't really care. Lauderdale county is dry and it is closer to Tennessee for me. Yes I do feel it should be sold on Sunday. It is not right for the preacher to tell me when I can, or cannot drink. I'm sure if they could, they would have a lot to say what I can do.
Matches my feelings exactly Uncle. I must be a Conservative, or is that a Liberal or do I have to admit to being part one and part the other?
I really am all schitzo about politics. I think liberty requires that people be allowed to make and sell food and drink. I also think that the sale of food and drink should be regulated regarding purity, and ingredients should be made public.
I think users of food and drink should take personal responsibility for how they use them. Drunks should be protected from themselves and the sober should be protected from the drunk. Obesity is not a public policy issue, but it is a public health issue. It is also a personal health issue, up to the individual to control.

I am realistic enough to believe that society will never be perfect, but we should be always working for that goal.
Sorry, I was part of the hyjacking of this thread.
I voted for Sunday sales of alcohol in the special election a couple of years ago, but the county went down to defeat. I think the main problem was that it was a special election. This issue should be brought up again and put on a ballot along with a presidental election.
Having a special election usually only gets out the activist, both for and against an issue. The churches encouraged their congrigations to go vote "NO", and were successful. Florence passed it, and thats where the Olive Garden went for that reason.
If the question were put to the general public on THE ballot in 2008, I believe it would pass by a large margin.
To my knowledge, Sheffield will be allowed to vote again as a city, but the county will not, and it will be only for on-premesis at resturants. Can't go the the local store and get a 6 pack like Ed is referring to.

We can whine about our area not having this or that, but as long as we think like we are in the Victorian era, thats about where we will stay.

Ratsafrats, now I have people thinking about politics again. IT IS SPRING AND WE SHOULD ALL BE TURNING OUR THOUGHTS TO THE MORE UPLIFTING ASPECTS OF LIFE.
