....apparently 'entitles' one to speed through school zones, run traffic lights and ignore STOP signs. At least that's the impression I've formed after 8 months of observation. What gives?

I do not mean to be sexist, but have you noticed that the majority of people talking on cell phones while driving are women? Of course men do it too, but one day while driving from the downtown area to Cox Creek Blvd, I was bored and decided to count the number of drivers I saw using cell phones. By the time I reached my destination, I counted 22 people on cell phones. Out of the 22, 17 were women!

LOL! Makes sense I suppose. Personally, I can't stand talking on the phone while I drive. I can't walk and chew gum at the same time, so I'm dangerous to other drivers if my attention is not on what I'm doing!

David,

I'm always cautious about what is to follow whenever I hear a sentence start with, "I don't mean to be [fill in the blank], but..." You counted drivers on cell phones, and then you calculated the ration of women to men. I wonder if you also counted the ratio of women to men drivers as well?

In other words, 17 out of the 22 cell phone users you saw on the road might have been women, but statistics can lie. You saw a total of 22 cell phone users out of how many? Let's say 60 drivers. If 45 out of the 60 drivers were women, then your 'finding' isn't any more convincing than those other statements that start with "I'm no [...], but..." in my opinion.

And David, you might want to stop counting cell phone users and watch the road! Smiler

You are indeed correct! And I meant no offense to women drivers!

Just a PROFESSIONAL observation from a former LEO. BTW...go back to school. Your grammar and spelling stink.

You need to come to Florence. I drive through UNA every morning. Speed limit is 25mph from 7:30am- 3:30pm. I almost get ran over by people going 40 to 50 through there and guess what. They are not Black. So you need to get off the Color thing cause it's a people thing.
OMG - This is such a funny forum! Being a female myself, I had to laugh at the fact that I do 95% of the these things while driving! I am bad to be speeding and using a cell phone while driving, and I am not black. I do not think that color has anything to do with it - maybe depending on what are you were in and the time, etc., but not in general!!! Like _Joy_ said, we have to many FREAKING TASKS!!!

Pucker, you are showing remarkable restraint...... lol.

It isn't easy, but i thought i would give it a try since i'm practicing to be a lady....LOL

Can't figger how women were able to survive before just a few years ago when cell phones let them gab away from their cars. Just don't understand how they were able to get by.
Guess they had to get all their words in at home before they got into the car

Guess what? not all women are like that. I, for one, am very shy in person and not much of a talker and never have been. I learned a long time ago that listening is much more fun.
When you listen you learn things and sometimes those things can come in very handy Big Grin

If it WASN'T predominantly black women driving as described, I would say so. BUT IT IS. Just because someone IS black AND female, doesn't mean that they CAN'T be a lousy driver.

Here's a challenge: Sit at the intersection of 33rd St. and 19th Ave. in Sheffield on a school day and SEE 'who' ignores the traffic light and 'who' speeds through the school zones.

Women talk more than men only in certain circumstances. http://www.pbs.org/speak/speech/prejudice/women/
"Despite the widespread belief that women talk more than men, most of the available evidence suggests just the opposite. When women and men are together, it is the men who talk most. Two Canadian researchers, Deborah James and Janice Drakich, reviewed sixty-three studies which examined the amount of talk used by American women and men in different contexts. Women talked more than men in only two studies."

If it were WHITE women doing it, I'd say so. But it isn't. Neither is it Hispanics or Middle Easterners OR Asians. NOTHING I have stated bears ANY HINT of racism.....just FACTS as observed by a TRAINED OBSERVER.

What do you expect. You go to the part of town where mostly blacks are. Try going to a part of town where it's mostly another race or where all races are and you will get the same result. I don't even know why I'm replying to this. SMH
Seeing how I drive through that exact part of town every day, I would have to agree with you. Then again, A LOT of people do not obey the traffic laws through that part of town. The majority of the people taking their children to school are women. That is just a fact. Good observation dogsoldier. But the real message that needs to be stated is that cell phones need to be banned while driving, anyway. It really pisses me off to see someone trying to talk on the cell phone and make a turn...they don't have enough hands to use a signal and many other things are inhibited by those things. But one other thing....I am a woman and I HATE CELL PHONES!!! Being able to drive in the car and listen to music is my only quiet time that I ever, EVER have!!!! I turn my cell phone off until I need to make a call. It is very stereotypical to assume that women talk more than men! That is like saying men watch more football than women. I am a HUGE football fan and watch twice as much football as my husband. Times are changing....accept it!
LOVE your name, suthunbelle. You know, I have to say that my husband works all over MS & AL; his cell phone is money is our pockets. I also hate riding with him when he's on it...makes me a nervous wreck. In his defense, he's really lucky or a great driver because he's been doing this for 5 years & no accidents.
