And I say once more, if life actually meant life, or 99 years actually meant 99 years.

Grand Ole Opry star's killer paroled after 41 years in prison

NASHVILLE (Reuters) - John Brown, one of the two men convicted in the murders of Grand Ole Opry and "Hee Haw" star David "Stringbean" Akeman and his wife, will be released from prison after serving 41 years, officials said on Wednesday.

Brown, 64, who had been denied parole five times in the past, will be released in four to six weeks after four of the five Tennessee Board of Parole members voted to parole him during a hearing in Nashville on Wednesday.

Brown was sentenced to two consecutive 99-year sentences for the murders along with his cousin Doug Brown, who later died in prison.

Grand Ole Opry singer Jan Howard was among those voicing opposition to Brown's release, according to Melissa McDonald, board spokeswoman.

On Nov. 10, 1973, John and Doug Brown went to Akeman's rural cabin outside Nashville to look for cash when Akeman and his wife, Estelle, returned after a performance at the Opry.

John Brown shot Akeman when he walked into the cabin and then shot Estelle in the back of the head as she ran through the front yard and asked for mercy.

During a career that stretched back into the 1930s, Akeman was known for his picking mastery as well as for his country humor. He played with various artists, including Uncle Dave Macon, Ernest Tubb and was for a time a member of Bill Monroe and The Bluegrass Boys.

Let's repeat:

John Brown shot Akeman when he walked into the cabin and then shot Estelle in the back of the head as she ran through the front yard and asked for mercy.

They didn't get mercy, but their killer does.

I don't think that is accurate, at least for me.
I believe, and I think most Liberals as well, that the government can and should be used to improve the lives of the people in the US. The government should control the banking system so that recessions or depressions are less intense and less often . They belileve that power (political as well as well as business) shouldl exist in the general population, and not in the wealthy elite.

In general terms, we believe that we are better together than individually.
We believe in the basic premise of the New Deal , and if you aren't really familiar with that polilcy, and the general policies of both presidents Roosevelt, especially FDR, I suggest a comprehensive study.
In general , we Democrats don't want a "parent child" relationship with anyone other than our parents and children. We want the government to have very little say in how we live our personal lives.
Now, I don't really know what is at the heart of a Republican soul, but I can look at what policies they are trying to enact. Hands off of protecting our environment, hands off of big business and how they act . However, it is hands ON in trying to control an individual's personal life, hands on in ending the social safety net. Basically hands on in trying to place the burden of our governance on the poor, the elderly, and the middle class while letting the very rich enjoy not having to support the very structure that has made them rich,.
We Democrats have nothing against the rich, hell, we want to be rich as well, but we don't want our government to be bought and paid for by special interest in support of their greed, and that is the very essence of the Republican power base.

Hmmmm, well, they do love that government paid cradle to grave care, that "why work when the government will support you" attitude.
