Only reason to seal them would be cause he did something that could cause him to lose his seat of Governor. He was either on the Ashley Madison list or he was abusing his wife.

“A circuit judge in Tuscaloosa County this morning sealed the divorce records of Gov. Robert Bentley and his wife, Dianne Bentley.”

I don't like Bentley now as much as when he was first running for governor, but I would not narrow down the reason for sealing his records to only the two you mention.

Seriously he made lots of promises that was entertaining his first run, but he has lost my vote for sure. It is time someone else is in the mansion now.

Why, you old SEXIST, you!!!

Why could the ONLY reasons for sealing the records be something embarrassing or outrageous that the Governor did?  Your "either or" speculation completely ignores the possibility that Ms. Bentley could be the perpetrator of something that requires hiding from the public.

You old SEXIST!!

Conservative legislator Allen Farley (R-McCalla) has called upon
Governor Bentley to address the growing media reports that Bentley used state airplanes, trooper overtime pay and other state resources to carry on an illicit love affair with his married paramour. She remains un-named but is said to be part of the Governor's cabinet.  Bentley is refusing to answer any questions concerning the alleged affair.

______

Another Republican governor got in trouble for using the state's airplane and state security for personal purposes. The late Harold Guy Hunt used the state plane to fly here and there to preaching appointments at various Primitive Baptist churches, where he received "free will offerings" for his sermonizing.  He was required to reimburse the state something like $15,000.

If (note that I said "If.") he current governor is indeed embroiled in an affair, rest assured it will be disclosed.  A smart monkey in political office does not monkey with another monkey who is not his lawfully married monkey. Too many other monkeys are in a position to know stuff like that and monkeys are not known for keeping quiet.  ABBA-DABBA-DABBA!

If he used taxpayer money for his affair, meals, hotels, plane flights, etc., then it is our business. To seal divorce records is an indication that he wants something hidden.

OMG! Just when I thought you couldn't get sillier and more unfunny! Wasn't there a boat called "Monkey Business"? Which "smart" monkey was on that one?

Thank you for your predictable comment, Ms. Snark 'n Snipe. Not gonna do your research for you, but since your memory is not as good as mine, I will provide this shot of the couple that got into monkey business on the good ship Monkey Business. Perhaps that will jog your feeble memory.

I didn't see the article about his affair. Who was he seeing?

Teyates, I respect you and your opinions but if you don't like someone it is easy to find people that agree with you and also how facts can be slanted.

In all things there are opinions and there are facts.

With cover ups, especially on the government level, how can/will we know the truth?

Bentley might have made it into office because people weren't so much voting for him but against his opponent.

I agree peede.  I was just pointing to the hypocrisy of the whole ideal.  There are many who questioned the current POTUS actions in sealing his college and academic records, as well as those of his wife. When he currently holds the most important job in the country, if not the world. Yet, some of the same ones defending his actions are now calling for public release of records pertaining to a marriage that lasted 50 years.  I understand why they want the records released since it might divulge the impropriety and use of state vehicles or money in an affair, BUT things such as this went on in the WH when Clinton was president, yet he was defended. The current Dem POTUS has sealed records that could provide vital information , yet they are sealed.  It is a fact that as long as these politicians, both DEM and Republican are allowed to seal records they want to keep from public view, there will always be questions that should be answered.

____

Well, Best, you obviously remembered the name of the boat where the monkey business went on. So, then, that scandalous monkey business "before your time" somehow got into your compromised memory.

Could be innocent. If he used state money for an affair I doubt they'd keep it quiet. Could be they just don't want their personal business/finances put out for the public to snoop through and the court agreed there was no need for it. Seems the hardest thing for most people to grasp today is, they are NOT entitled to know everything about everyone, and that not everything is their business.

You make a good point.

So, then, if it was before your interest in politics, where did you learn sufficiently about the Monkey Business affair to remember it all this time.  Or did your interest in the matter, which you remembered all this time, arise from outside the realm of politics?  Were you perhaps interested in yachting?

Ah, yes, before your interest in politics, you say? What, then, were you interested in when you learned about the Monkey Business? Yachting, perhaps?

Are you so impressed with my contribution to this string that you feel compelled to repeat it, Jack, or has that fuzzy mind of yours just gone adrift again?

What an idiotic post you made beternnun.  I was busy making a living and getting an education. I'm not now, nor was I ever, a gimmethat, I worked for what I got. I know that idea is foreign to you.

Hey, you are the one who remembered that Monkey Business boat.  Even in your busy youthful days of vocation and education, you still obviously had  time to notice the political scandals of the the day enough to remember them years later.  I worked gainfully for over 50 years, Best, and never took any kind of public assistance, so I am every bit as remote from the "gimmethat" sector as anyone could be.

probably when you also replied and the program lost it's mind.

Hey, Jack, if the "program lost its it's[sic] mind," then it should be fully compatible with whatever comments you might have had!

Yes beternnun, I didn't live in a cave and was aware of things going on around me. YOU'RE the one that brought up monkey business and got your nose all out of joint because it reminded me. You're the one that can't keep up. Again, working and getting an education is a foreign idea to you demoslops. Look what a big deal you're making of it.

Have you finally gone completely "round the bend, Best? It would seem so. You say, "You're the one who brought up monkey business." Well, that is true, but I did NOT bring up anything about

a "boat called Monkey Business." That was YOU! And my reference to "monkey business" (as a metaphor for hanky-panky) had nothing to do with the boat or with Gary and Donna's particular monkey business on that boat or elsewhere. You, who claim to have been so busy with work and study, somehow nevertheless learned about this affair some 25+ years ago and were sufficiently impressed to remember it to this day. I have to conclude that you indeed were paying attention, even allegedly "before [your] interest in politics."

A smart monkey in political office does not monkey with another monkey who is not his lawfully married monkey. Too many other monkeys are in a position to know stuff like that and monkeys are not known for keeping quiet.

(That is my definition of monkeying around or monkey business.) It reminded me of the boat "Monkey Business". Once more, in your confused mind, you think I posted something I didn't. No where did I post that you brought up a boat named "Monkey Business". It's past time that you went and had yourself checked out. You look like such a confused old fool it's almost sad.
