Short pieces of Ribs (I believe). I've had them once and they were small pieces almost like a full size bone that had been cut into pieces.

I think they are the rounded flat ends that get cut off. I found them frustrating, not enough meat to get a bite. And the meat to sauce ratio is WAY off...Love the onion petals, though...
I don't know if anyone remembers them or ate there when they were in business but I remember two of the best rib plates that I ever had in the Shoals, or anywhere for that matter, being at "The Rib Shack" and "Bad Bob's BBQ".

The Rib Shack was in the House (now occupied by AFLAC) on 2nd Street and was owned, when first opened, by one or two families out of Russellville who cooked the ribs in Russellville and transported them to the Rib House to be re-heated/cooked over the grille. Their sauces and dry rub was among the best I have ever tasted and I really miss them. Whoever bought them out botched the whole works and finally the place died out and closed over a highly suspicious fire.

Bad Bob's opened on Woodward Avenue, Muscle Shoals, in the old Long John Silver's building and I thought their ribs and BBQ was really good.

Last .. Famous Dave's had a pretty good thing going at first but quickly went down hill and closed. Now the closest Famous Daves I think is Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Y'all have me craving a trip to Memphis now thinking about this topic. Can anyone else taste Corky's or Rendezvous?

Yea, I still miss the Rib Shack. The best thing about them was you could get your ribs any style. I used to go there 1 to 2 times a week, and would love to see them reopen even at this late of a date. Other than that, I really like the ribs at Logans. I actually don't care for their steaks, but the ribs I love.

Yeah it's almost like eating broken glass, yuck!! I like Chlli's ribs a lot.

Why is it "Memphis Style" is the dry rub ribs?

I'm not sure but I suspect the distinction came from Charlie Vergo's or Rendezvous which are one and the same and famous all over. I could be wrong but i have always heard dry rubbed ribs as "Memphis Style" And looked on Wiki which mentions both.
From Wikipedia

Memphis

Memphis-style barbecue is known for

* wet ribs, made with a mild, sweet barbecue sauce that's basted on the ribs before and after smoking;
* dry-rub ribs, made with a spice rub applied during or right after they've been cooked

HTH
Thanks Floss, I will get some soon.

Yes the Rendezvous- used to go there almost every night about 11:30. Had their ribs often (but not every night). They also have good pulled pork sandwich. The Mickelobe on tap tops it off.
The rude service is just part of the experience. Kinda goes with the place and all the junk hanging from the ceiling. It was the last public restaurant that I was carded in. They had dropped the drinking age to 18, and I was 22 as I remember, but I didn't have my draft card, and they didn't want to accept just my drivers license. Charlie wasn't there, and it was his brother checking. Caused quite a scene, but I did get in and party.

I don't think Gridley's has been the same since he died, in fact I didn't even know he was still open. I did like their pulled pork very much, as well as their BBQ shrimp.
Corkeys is good, but in my opinion , dosn't compare to the Rendezvous, although I suspect that is just a matter of personal taste.
Made the trip to just over the Tennessee line on Hwy 43 and tried Miss Annie's which has been open for just about three to four weeks.

It's so worth the drive up there. Without any doubt Miss Annie's has the best Ribs and Smoked BBQ Chicken that I have tasted in the Shoals. Reminds me of the old 2nd Street Rib Shack quality. They only have one sauce, that I know of, but it's a winner.

I haven't tried the pork yet but their Ribs are the best.

Man that's like asking which arm or leg I would rather have cut off the right or the left. We ate there again tonight and the quality and taste was just the same and just as good. To answer your question though I would most likely choose the Smoked Chicken. The Ribs still remind me of the old 2nd Street Rib Shack with the Sweet Sauce. Only improvement I would suggest to the folks at Miss Annies is to serve the sauce hot whereas they now serve it in a metal cup and cold.

The restaurant though is beautiful and I somehow feel that as soon as people try their food they will fill all those many tables they have room for.

It's an old topic/subject but up until this week I really didn't have an answer to where I thought the Shoals best Ribs could be found.  I've had "good" ribs at many places and "fair" ribs at a few more but nowhere could I really brag about until this week and it's the first time I ever tried the ribs there.

Without any doubt the best Ribs I've found in the Shoals area and quite likely some of the best Ribs I've had since a few visits to Memphis and Corkey's was found at the Sheffield Outback Restaurant.  Maybe it was just a one time thing or I got lucky but the order of Ribs we got was "excellent" and far better than any others we have found in the Shoals.  I'll have to keep an eye on the topic to see if anyone else gives them a try and feels the same.  These are not the dry rub ribs but was flavored just right, at least for my taste.  We got a combo with BBQ Ribs, BBQ Chicken and Coconut Shrimp but added 1/2 lb of crab legs.  I can't be as complementary about the Chicken but  everything was good and the Ribs along with the Crab Legs were simply Outstanding, can't wait till I can go back again.

Everything O'Guirres does is top notch. I am not surprised their ribs are great.

_______________

Bunyan's also serves "riblets," but they serve them as "ribs" without anything on the menu to recognize the difference. AND, they are stingy with their riblets, also.

Chili's absolutely serves very good ribs.  Don't write them off because they are a chain.  There are plenty of mom and pop rib places that don't match up to the ones at Chili's. and you can depend on the same quality at any Chili's anywhere.
