Does anyone know when the WET or White Entertainment TV Awards come on?

I don't know? Why not ask Philippe Dauman (Pres and CEO) of Viacom, the owners of BET.

I'll bet he's not interested in talking about a WET channel.

You might be right. Big Grin They do own CMT. It is a 99.9% "catered towards" white channel. They did have a Charlie Pride once or twice, and BET has shown Eminem specials. So I guess it balances out. Big Grin

Did you just make that up or what? Roll Eyes

How many black, Asian, Hispanic, ect people, videos, or cribs are shown on the channel?

I did like the home of Charlie Daniel they showed.

Are you attempting to say white people are not the majority of listeners of country music and the major viewers of CMT? (in this country)

If so, it's still not called White Country Television, is it?

Actually I don't care whats it's called. I don't care about BET either. Just stating the facts that BET is actually controlled by a man that is not black. If there is a problem with the name, email him.

I see what you're saying but perhaps the question should be why aren't there any sit-coms on network television that revolve around African-Americans?

To my knowledge, only TBS and BET have shows that feature mainly African-American actors.

What?!? TV history is full of shows that revolve around Black Americans (I refuse to call them African-Americans if they were not born on the continent of Africa. If you want to get technical, shouldn't there be more accurate assessments of heritage? Nigerian-American, Kenyan-American, Djiboutian-American, etc, etc?) Some "black" shows actually spun off of "white" shows. Who's to blame if there aren't enough black people represented in prime time on major networks? I don't know.

I know history is full of shows but I'm speaking of current shows.

Not that my memory is perfect but it seems the most recent was My Wife and Kids and that went off air in 2005.

And, I'm not blaming anyone for that. I'm just saying that the network channels cater towards the whites so I don't have a problem with BET catering towards the blacks.

(I used to say blacks as well but I was told by a friend that she found this offensive because she was not black. I asked what she preferred and she said African-American)

We should just use Caucasoid and Negroid. That way, nobody gets offended at being called white when they are more of a vanilla latte, or offended by black when they are a caramel mocha latte. I have a black friend who cannot stand the stiff, politically correct "African American". She says she has never been to Africa.

My farmer's tan is looking sweet, so I don't want anybody calling me white. If it were possible for me to be offended, that would be the way to do it ;-)
From a letter written by Teddy Roosevelt:

"There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all... The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic... There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

And, President Woodrow Wilson, "Any man who carries a hyphen about with him carries a dagger that he is ready to plunge into the vitals of this Republic whenever he gets ready."

When the German ambassador assured Wilson that 100,000 German-Americans would prevent the US from going to war with Germany, Wilson assured him the US had 100,000 lamp posts!

Maybe they're all playing in the NBA and NFL, or being president.

The problem with this is that for the majority of the history of this country minorities were considered non-Americans. Minorities have always asked simply to be treated as equals
Yeah. Whatever happened to just being human? Shows like BET and TBN, and all of that appeal to a culture, not just a race of people. If you like CMT, who gives a crap what color you are, you just don't have good taste in music. JK. Lol. It's a matter of cultural identification and interests that humans are comfortable with. No different than deciding whether you prefer CNN or FOX news, or whatever politically affiliated station you prefer to be informed or misinformed by. People who create argument based on race whether they are white or black or whatever are part of a generational idea that should have died out a long time ago. My hope is that you will continue to teach your children that culture and family and community is more important than what the color of your skin is. And then watch programs that respect those things that are important to you. Self pride is important for everyone not for what they look like but for who they are as people. Maybe that way reality shows that glamorize money and materialistic values like Sweet 16 or Cribs, will no longer have an audience of children confused that our society values money over kindness and education so they have no motivation to set goals that embrace said values. Acceptance of our cultural differences may not breed agreement about those differences but acknowledging that everyone has the right to be respected for being or looking differently than you does not make them unlawful or racist or wrong. Just turn the channel. Peace.

When white culture stops being the default culture that people are talking about when they say that people need to give of the ways of where they came from and conform to what's 'normal' here.

'non-Americans...??? Is that why they want to be called Afrikan Americans??? I personally know several Chinese Americans but they prefer to be called Americans (they sacrificed a lot to earn the title and they are proud of it). On the other hand, there are Afrikan-Americans, born here that have never been proud of this country...at least that's what Obama's babies momma said...

Justin Timberlake gets a lot of rotations on BET. So thats one for one. I bet you that you will run out of black musicians on CMT before I run out of white musicians on BET.

I know many that wish to be called Irish American, so what is your point? Again more people in this country claim German American than anything else. So why bash African Americans? Go after the leader.

There are many white people that are born here that have nothing but hate for this country, so what is the point your attempting to make.
You're missing my whole point. I don't mind that there are shows that are primarily of interest to blacks or whites. The problem is one of racism. I am against any kind of racism. I actually agree with Dr. King. People should be judged on their character not the color of their skin. That's why I have a problem and consider it racist that there IS a BET, NAACP, a black caucus, black colleges, a black history month, etc. There will never and shouldn't be a WET, NAAWP, a white caucus, white colleges, white history month. There's a double standard and racism will never disappear because of it.

The NAACP was created with the help of white people. Look at their history. Do you realize what Historically Black means? It does not mean only blacks can attend. Most colleges in this country are historically white.

You have listed bad examples, but I do get your point and agree that racism is not needed.
