I'm sure that when Pithecanthropus encountered Zinjanthropus the next stage in the primate evolutionary sequence, pithecantrhopus used the same weapons he always had when Zinjanthropus came along with new weapons. And when Neanderthals faced Cro Magnon men, I'm sure that they kept using their same weapons.
And we know the results. They became extinct.

And now we have Democrats and progressives faced with far right wingers with new weapons, and we have to ask ourselves, "Will we become extinct? "

Or can we lift ourselves up the evolutionary scale and face the far right with weapons of equal or greater power.

The right wing weapons are the Neocon think tanks. And don't fool yourself to think that these think tanks are just places where people explore policy and do research. That's a Democratic or progressive think tank-- a conventional think tank. That's a regular bomb, not a nuclear bomb. They may look the same on the outside, but they function very differently and the outcome is very different.

Progressives have known about the neocon think tanks for years, but when the awareness of the amount of money that was being spent on the neocon TTs first emerged in the late nineties, the democrats had a democratic president. Clinton was in the White House. The right wing TTs had a bunch of former government employees who worked for Reagan and Bush Sr. and there was no perceived great threat-- even though it was understood that they were spending hundreds of millions of dollars on these think tanks. When we look back, we know that really, they were quite effective. They came up with their research on Paula Jones. They harassed president Clinton like gnats, distracting him, sapping his energy, sabotaging him and keeping him and his political allies from doing all that they could political agenda-wise.

Now, the PNAC and other right wing TTs have placed literally dozens of their comrades in high positions in government, in the military, in the diplomatic corps, and now, we know that these think tanks are more than places where people do simple research. Now, we can go back and look at the reports that came out in the late nineties and recognize the power of the strategies that they used to build support, to build opinion, to consolidate and solidify many different groups, to get their ideas, to get their policies backed up and supported by the religious right, by judges. This was no simple little grass roots campaign effort. This effort, for some of the TTs, has extended over 20 years.

We must,, must produce our own counterpart TT-- an array of progressive think tanks, not one, not just John Podesta's American Majority Institute (which some say is too centrist, too controlled by the DLC), but a dozen. And they need to be funded by the progressive foundations, progressive TTs, progressive issue oriented organizations-- they all need to come together and invest in a group of TTs because we don't know where to put the money. We need to allow a free market to test the resources, the creativity, the vision the ability and effectiveness of a number of these organizations so that we can determine which ones prove the most effective. Which ones take us the furthest which ones make the most difference. And gradually, as we discover those strengths and weaknesses, we'll whittle out some of them ,and hopefully, we'll end up, like the right, with half a dozen strong, robust, growing, powerful, resourceful organizations-- mega- policy promotion engines that have think tanks but do so much more.

Being who we are, we can do it better than the far right. Because in addition to having money-- which we will get, have no doubt about that, we will get it-- we have heart, we have honesty, we have passion, we have compassion and kindness. We have truth. Just look at the errors and blunders the neocons of the PNAC and how they've torpedoed the Bush Juggernaut.

One of the problems facing this project is a lot of hopelessness. As I've spoken to leaders and founder so progressive think tanks, some of which have been in existence for ten or fifteen years-- as I've spoken to fundraisers who have been in fundraising on the beltway for 25 years and more-- there's a solid, consistent attitude that it can't be done. "We went there. We asked for the money. They wouldn't give it to us."

Well I say that was before... that was before the US had its government stolen away from it. That was before the presidency was stolen. That was before America became something that we could no longer be proud of. That was before the principles we've worked so hard for were threatened with destruction and anhilation and death. That was before the media was turned into zombies and propaganda organizations-- the new Pravda for the Bush organization.

And now, we have a new world, a world in which we have 17 months to act, in which, if we don't do everything we can to change the world, to fight, to battle, to wage war with the right wingers and the Bush regime-- with the cowards, the thieves, the lying traitors who have assaulted America, who have spit upon its most priceless most treasured assets of freedom and democracy and individual rights.

Paranoia is a term used by mental health specialists to describe suspiciousness (or mistrust) that is either highly exaggerated or not warranted at all. The word is often used in everyday conversation, often in anger, often incorrectly. Simple suspiciousness is not paranoia--not if it is based on past experience or expectations learned from the experience of others.

Paranoia can be mild and the affected person may function fairly well in society, or it can be so severe that the individual is incapacitated. Because many psychiatric disorders are accompanied by some paranoid features, diagnosis is sometimes difficult. Paranoias can be classified into three main categories--paranoid personality disorder, delusional (paranoid) disorder, and paranoid schizophrenia.

Paranoid Personality Disorder

Derek worked in a large office as a computer programmer. When another programmer received a promotion, Derek felt that the supervisor "had it in for him" and would never recognize his worth. He was sure that his co-workers were subtly downgrading him. Often he watched as others took coffee breaks together and imagined they spent this time talking about him. If he saw a group of people laughing, he knew they were laughing at him. He spent so much time brooding about the mistreatment he received that his work suffered and his supervisor told him he must improve or receive a poor performance rating. This action reinforced all Derek's suspicions, and he looked for and found a position in another large company. After a few weeks on his new job, he began to feel that others in the office didn't like him, excluded him from all conversations, made fun of him behind his back, and eroded his position. Derek has changed jobs six times in the last seven years. Derek has paranoid personality disorder.
Some people regularly become suspicious without cause -- so much so that their paranoid thoughts disrupt their work and family life. Such people are said to have a paranoid personality. They are:

Suspicious
An unmistakable sign of paranoia is continual mistrust. People with paranoid personality disorder are constantly on their guard because they see the world as a threatening place. They tend to confirm their expectations by latching on to any speck of evidence that supports their suspicions and ignore or misinterpret any evidence to the contrary. They are ever watchful and may look around for signs of a threat.

Anyone in a new situation -- beginning a job or starting a relationship, for example -- is cautious and somewhat guarded until he or she learns that the fears are groundless. People suffering from paranoia cannot abandon their fears. They continue to expect trickery and to doubt the loyalty of others. In a personal relationship or marriage, this suspiciousness may take the form of pathological, unrealistic jealousy.

Hypersensitive
Because persons with paranoid personality disorder are hyperalert, they notice any slight and may take offense where none is intended. As a result, they tend to be defensive and antagonistic. When they are at fault, they cannot accept blame, not even mild criticism. Yet they are highly critical of others. Other people may say that these individuals make "mountains out of molehills."

Cold and Aloof
In addition to being argumentative and uncompromising, the people with paranoid personality disorder are often emotionally cut off from other people. They appear cold and, in fact, often avoid becoming intimate with others. They pride themselves on their rationality and objectivity. People with a paranoid outlook on life rarely come to the attention of clinicians -- it is not in their nature to seek help. Many presumably function competently in society. They may seek out social niches in which a moralistic and punitive style is acceptable, or at least tolerated to a certain degree.

mandomama, That is ok, You're the real one with the problem. First of all, what you did was rude, unkind, and disrespectful. Even if this post pissed you off, which I know it did or you wouldn't have gone through your trouble, you posted your medical journal which had nothing to do with this post to get back at me for posting my post about the right wing organizations. I've seen you reply to many Christian posts and this would not even be considered Christian what you did to me. You're not a doctor neither. You can get sued for diagnosing people.

I am not surprised by your post. I expected much worse and I'm sure there will be others much worse than yours to be posted. When people like yourself who cannot debate what is posted by the poster, the right wing comes back with the only thing they know to come back with and thats attacks on the poster. Which only shows how ignorant the right wingers are. So no offense taken here because most people are now beginning to pick up and catch on to right wingers who show their ignorance and stupidity. Everybody copies and pastes to get a story or debate going. You show your weakness on the copy and paste attacks. If some of you right wingers would post some good topics it would slow me down from posting because I would be interested in replying.

"Multiple personality disorder (MPD) is a psychiatric disorder characterized by having at least one "alter" personality that controls behavior. The "alters" are said to occur spontaneously and involuntarily, and function more or less independently of each other. The unity of consciousness, by which we identify our selves, is said to be absent in MPD. Another symptom of MPD is significant amnesia which can't be explained by ordinary forgetfulness. In 1994, the American Psychiatric Association's DSM-IV replaced the designation of MPD with DID: dissociative identity disorder. Psychologist Nicholas P. Spanos argues that repressed memories of childhood abuse and multiple personality disorder are "rule-governed social constructions established, legitimated, and maintained through social interaction." In short, Spanos argues that most cases of MPD have been created by therapists with the cooperation of their patients and the rest of society. The experts have created both the disease and the cure. This does not mean that MPD does not exist, but that its origin and development are often, if not most often, explicable without the model of separate but permeable ego-states or "alters" arising out of the ashes of a destroyed "original self."

A rather common view of MPD is given by philosopher Daniel Dennett.
